Chapter 18

Aileen
I walked past a few students, searching for my classroom. But I couldn’t find it.
After walking for around 10 minutes, I found my class.
Being a college student sounds tough, but I guess we’ll get it through. Unless my friends turn out to be quite mean.
The classroom was quite isolated with a few students. I took a seat in the front row as I used to in my high school days.
Suddenly, Jack’s face flashed in my mind. Did he also get admitted to a college?
He said he wanted to start working right after high school. I wonder what he is up to these days?
He’s good in academics, I hope he doesn’t give up on it.
If I meet him again, I need to apologize to him properly.
Soon the whole class was filled up with students. And those who entered were chatting happily among themselves.
I was sitting on my own unable to understand how to strike a conversation. The teacher entered next. She was a beautiful woman in her thirties perhaps.
“Good morning class, I’m Miss Fransisca Hills. I’m going to be your Economics teacher from today for these three years. If there are any questions you can ask me now, ’cause we’ll get into the lesson right away afterward.”
“Miss, are you married?” One of the boys yelled loudly.
What? Who asks a question like that to your teacher? And the girls started laughing loudly hearing his question.
I was at a loss for words.
“Very funny,” Fransisca added, folding her arms and coming forward to stand in front of the front row. “You are curious about my private life more than your studies, that’s good. Then, I’m going to answer your question seriously.”
What? Why is she complying with his wishes? She’s odd.
“Yes, I’m married with two kids. Anything else to ask?”
Two more girls asked about her hobbies and all. Afterward, the whole class began to ask her dumb questions.
I was starting to get fed up with everything so I kept my head low on the table in front of me.
Suddenly I heard something that drew my attention.
“Miss Teacher, I heard we have an important member among us in our class today. Aren’t you going to introduce her to us?”
Important member? Who’s that? Are they talking about me by any chance? It can’t be right.
“Oh, right. I forgot all about it,” the teacher added in a surprised tone. “We do have an important member in our class. The daughter of the Alpha David McGarten is among us who also studied in this college. Please introduce yourself.”
They are talking about me after all! I need to get up.
I hurriedly tried to get up and sprained my ankle by accident.
“Are you alright?” the teacher called with a worried face.
“Uh…yeah. I’m fine.”
I took a deep breath and lifted my chin to face the students.
It’s okay, you can do it.
“I’m Aileen McGarten. The daughter of the Alpha. I transferred here a week ago. Before this, I was studying at Riverdale High. Nice to meet you, everyone.”
“She’s the daughter of the Alpha? Woah, she’s so pretty, like a doll,” I heard a loud whisper among the girls. “Do you think she’s wearing make-up right now?”
“She looks hot and sounds polite as well. A bonus, right boys?”
I was hearing various reactions from the students but none of them affected me that much.
“Alright, thanks for your introduction,” the teacher clapped. “Take your seat, we’ll start the class.”
I nodded and took my seat. Somehow everything turned out well. I hope the ends soon so I can go back home and hug Dave. I miss him already.
And then the realization hit me. I have to address him as my dad in front of everyone. Even though we are more than just normal father and daughter.
If in the end, we get together, how will my classmates and everyone react to this? Will they hate me? Or feel disgusted towards me?
If I make some friends here, they will also negatively see me. I don’t want that. It would be better to avoid contact as much as possible with people.
For now, I don’t mind being called your daughter. But, I hope I won’t be staying with your daughter for a long period in the future.
As soon as the first class was over and the teacher left, some girls and boys surrounded me asking me about my home and Dave.
I answered their queries and before the second class started we were on break and I left the classroom as fast as possible to roam around the empty cafeteria.
I sat down, taking out my phone to send Dave a text message.
“What are you doing now? We are on break. I miss you.”
Sent!
There was no reply. As if I expected him to reply to my texts right away. Silly me. He’s at work. He must be busy. Why would he be sitting on his phone for texts?
Stop bothering him, will you?
I kept my phone aside, trying to find something useful in my bag to read. My phone rang out of nowhere and I reached out my phone to check the notification.
Who’s this?
I was surprised to see Dave’s text message pop up.
I’m in the middle of a meeting. I miss you as well. How is college going? Made any friends?
Woah, he replied. In the middle of work? Should I be happy about disturbing him?
“It’s going somehow. No friends yet. But, I do seem a bit popular around here because of your name, Daddy Alpha.”
I tried to muffle my laughter when I wrote ‘Daddy’. I wonder how he looks reading this? Is he feeling naughty or embarrassed?
I swear I love to put him in awkward situations.
“Naughty girl, are you doing this on purpose?” came the reply from him. “I promise, you are going to pay for this if I reach home.”
My plan is successful it seems even without trying to.
“Pay? How am I going to pay you? I don’t have my pocket money yet.” Boy, this is fun.
“Don’t worry, you can pay me differently. There’s still the unfinished job left from the other day. I’m going to make sure you do your part well. Daddy’s word.”
I felt butterflies in my stomach reading through his juicy replies. Is he really in the middle of a meeting writing all this with a straight face?
I don’t believe him! I hope no one sees what kind of texts he’s sending.
“Oh really? You are going to make me pay. Try then! I’m looking forward to it.”
Sent!
“Aileen McGarten,” I hear a voice call behind me.
I spun around to see a boy approaching me. He seemed to be around my age. With wavy soft brown curls, he had a sharp eye with a baby face.
When he stood in front of me, I could notice his light green eyes very clearly.
Is he from my class? He looks familiar. But, what does he want from me?
“Yes? Can I help you?” I asked hesitantly, hiding my phone out of his sight.
“Help?” he snickered, taking a seat in front of me. “Yes, you are the one who can help me out. I want to become your friend. And get to know each other better. Do you mind?”
He wants to be my friend? Didn’t I promise myself I would try to make as many friends as possible?
Wait, don’t get intimidated right away. Let’s see what he wants.
“Why do you want to become my friend?” I asked. “I mean, is it because of my family name? Or do you want to be friends genuinely?”
He chuckled in response.
What’s so funny here?
“Well, I do understand that you are on your guard thinking everybody wants to become your friend because you are the Alpha’s daughter. But, I’m not the same. I want to become your friend because I find you very interesting, and likable. That’s why I want to become your friend.”
Whatever your reason maybe, I don’t want to make acquaintance here. But, how do I decline him politely?
“So…. can we be friends?” he asked, holding out his hands towards me.
He’s blocking all sorts of my paths to deny his request.
What should I do?
“Uh…. I….”
He just took my hand forcefully and shook it.
“See? We are friends from now on. Nice to meet you, Aileen. I’m Skylar Clark.”
What? Does he want to make me his friend forcefully? This isn’t how it works!
I retreated my hand right away, getting up from my seat.
He was surprised by my actions.
“Uh…. I need to go to the next class. See you later!” I started, about to turn away.
“Next class is of Mr. Thompson. Let’s go, I need to get back to class as well. Let’s go together,” he said, walking over to my side to grab onto my hand.
I shook his hand away without a thought.
“I can go to class myself. I don’t need your help. Bye!” I retorted, rushing past from his side in a hurry.
I was walking aimlessly without a clue, that I ended up in front of the principal’s office.
What’s up with that boy? Isn’t he being too overly friendly for no reason? It’s our first meeting. Weirdly, he’s so chummy.
I need to be careful around him, I kind of sense danger around him.
“I think so as well,” My wolf responded. “He smells of danger as if he’s hiding his true self from you. Be careful around him. Our mate isn’t here to help you out. You need to protect yourself from harm.”
Protect me? Yes, I need to do that. Dave won’t be around me all the time. I need to survive without his help like I used to before I found out we were mates.
“Are you here to see me?” a voice followed making me startled.
I turned behind me to see the principal standing.
“It’s good to see you again, Aileen.” He beamed a smile.
Oh, right. I’m in front of his office.
“Yeah, it’s good to see you too,” I replied. “Are you going somewhere perhaps?”
“Hm…yeah. I have some urgent work. But, why are you here? Aren’t you supposed to be in class now?”
Class?
“Uh, yeah. I got lost and somehow ended up here. Can you tell me the directions for my class? I’m in a hurry.” I pleaded.
Hearing this he laughed. “Sure, come with me. I’ll bring you to your class myself. And we can talk on the way also.”
What? That’s so kind of him.
“Thank you for your help!”
“No problem. Let’s go.”
