RACHEL’S POV
She stood at a corner and watched him walk away. They were enjoying their time together not until he spotted the bet on the dance floor with another man.
“I will be right back,” he said and walked away.
She watched him confront the man and afterwards, he was left with the brat. She felt bittered and enraged. They were having the perfect time together, and all of a sudden she just had to ruin the moment.
A few minutes later, he was called to deliver his vote of thanks. As his rich baritone seeped from the microphone to her ear, she couldn’t help but fall in love with him the More.
She looked in the direction of the brat, and decided to go talk to her.
“Hi. I see you are all by yourself.”
“Not really. Maybe I wouldn’t, if you didn’t take the attention of my husband for the most part of the night.”
“Oh, my bad. It’s not my fault he finds my company entertaining.”
“Suffocating you mean? Because on the other hand, all I saw was a lady throwing herself at a man and him tolerating her because he doesn’t want to sound or look rude.”
“How dare you?”
“I should….” She was cut short by Shawn’s next statement.
“And to my darling wife who stood by me all through the waiting period, I want to say a big thank you to you.” The crowd immediately started clapping as everyone looked in her direction.
She was tempted to scoff at his hypocrisy. Did he just call her his darling wife? Anyway, anything for the camera.
“You and I know Know he didn’t mean that?” She asked.
“And what do you mean?”
“C’mon , you know what I mean. You are very well aware that all of this is a mirage to make people think you both have a lovely marriage, while in the real Sense, it was just a marriage that was used as a means to an end.”
Tiffany went silent for a moment as she stared blankly at her.
“Who hurt you?”
“Pardon?” Rachel asked, cocking her eyebrows.
“I asked who hurt you.”
“And why would you ask a question like that? Do I look hurt to you?”
“Yes, you do. Very hurt and bitter.”
“Are you trying to insult me?”
“Not at all, but I think you should see a therapist. Therapy helps with bitterness.”
“You must be kidding.”
“Well, I’m not. You really need to see a therapist, because it is only a bitter person that will be too blind to see how much in love I and Shawn are,” then she placed her hand on Rachel’s shoulder. “So, my darling, try to see a therapist. Bye.” And with that, she walked away, leaving a stunned Rachel to stare after her.
She felt like going after the little girl and strangling her to death. The little girl did not just insult her but rubbed her relationship with Shawn on her face.
She watched her walk to where her father, Shawn and his parents were standing. After what she would term a little conversation, their parents left, leaving them both behind.
Her face contorted in anger as she watched them speak to each other before Shawn walked away to talk to a couple a distance away from them.
He returned later, and they both left the hall towards the exit door. She immediately followed suit and her suspicion was confirmed.
They were leaving!
Suddenly, a thought struck her and she immediately ran after them.
TIFFANY’S POV
After her conversation with Rachel, She went in search of her father and found him standing with Shawn and his parents.
“Oh there you are, darling.” Her father said, brushing her cheeks slightly.
“We were looking for you. Where have you been, darling.” Mrs Gold said.
“Oh, I was just at a corner speaking to a Friend.”
“That’s alright. The party is over and we are heading home. You will drive with your husband.” Her father said.
“Shall we? Once again, congratulations Shawn. You made us proud.” Her father said and patted Shawn on his shoulder.
“Thank you, Sir.”
“Ummm…you can go ahead. Tiffany and I will leave later. I want to say Hello to a few people before we leave.”
“That’s fine. But ensure you Leave on time.” Mr Gold said and they Left, leaving herself and Shawn behind.
“I see you were catching up with, Rachel.” He said as they were now alone.
“Yes,” She replied simply. She knew he wanted information about what they spoke about but she was not ready to indulge him.
“I will just say hi to those couples over there and then we will be on our way.”
She nodded and he walked away.
He returned a few minutes later, and they Left the hall for their convoy outside.
They were about to get into the car when Rachel ran up to them. “Shawn, can I please ride with you guys?”
She exchanged glances with him before returning her attention to Rachel.
“Didn’t you come with your car?”
“I didn’t. I did not feel like driving so I booked a cab here. It’s late already.”
“Then book a cab home.” Tiffany sat, irritated by her petty attitude.
“Did you hear me say it’s late?” Rachel snapped.
“It’s okay, ladies. Rachel you can ride with us, but in the other car.” He said, pointing to the car behind theirs. “My driver will take you home to ensure your safety. That’s the least I can do for you, for coming out to support me.” He added.
“But, Shawn…”
“Can we leave now? I’m going to school tomorrow.” Tiffany Interrupted.
“Yeah, we know. High school girl.” Rachel said in a mocking tone.
“Rachel, please get into the car.” Shawn said impatiently.
She scoffed, gave Tiffany a dirty look before getting into the car.
“Good riddance to bad rubbish.” Tiffany murmured under her breath, before getting into the car with Shawn.
The drive home was a silent one as she stared out the window at the city as the lights illuminated the streets. Shawn on the other hand stayed on his phone all through.
She wanted to get home, get off the dress, shoes and jewelries and then slump on her and bid the night goodnight.
“You did well today.” Shawn suddenly said, and she turned to look at him in shock.
“Don’t give me that look. The manner in which you carried yourself was impressive, although you had few shortcomings, you didn’t ruin things like I feared.”
Arrogant man! He never gave a compliment without adding a limitation to it. What was wrong in giving her the complete compliments?
“Oh, well. Thank you. Your speech was not bad either.”
“What do you mean? My speech was impeccable.”
“Then my conduct was impeccable too.”
“It was, but not entirely.”
“Same way your speech was not entirely impeccable and impressive.”
“You are just a brat.” He snarled, returning his attention to his phone.
“And you, my darling, are an arrogant jerk.”
He ignored and never uttered a word, until they got home.
She ignored him too, by leaning back on the car’s plush seat and closing her eyes.
