SHAWN’S POV
He laid awake in bed as he thought about how he almost kissed her back in her room. He chided himself as he remembered his promise of not getting touchy with her.
He sighed in exhaustion and closed his eyes in sleep.
The next morning he got dressed and went downstairs to have breakfast. She beat him this time, because the table was already set.
“Good morning.” He said and took his seat.
“Good morning to you.” She replied and took her seat too.
They had their breakfast in silence and did not bother talking to each other. After breakfast, they bid each other goodbye and went their separate ways.
He arrived at work and everyone seemed excited to see him. He returned their smiles and greetings before taking the elevator.
He got to his office and was greeted by a bouquet, bottle of wine and a note.
“Welcome back, Shawny,” was written on the note and he knew who the sender was immediately.
Just then, the door went open and Rachel walked in. “Hey, Shawn.” She said excitedly and engulfed him In a hug.
“Hey, Rachel.”
“I’m glad you are back. I missed you.” She said, tightening the hug.
“It’s good to see you too, Rachel.” He said and gently disengaged from the hug
“Do you like your gifts?
“I do but I don’t think they are necessary. I was only home for a day, Rachel. This is too much.”
“I Know, right? But nothing is too much for you. No gift in this world can be equivalent to your worth to me.”
“Thank you. I appreciate the gift.”
“Okay. So, to celebrate your return, will you go out for lunch with me today?”
“Rachel, please, not today.”
“Please, Shawn. Shawny, please”
“Fine, fine I will go with you. Can I get to work now?”
“Of course you can. I will see you at lunch.” And with that, she walked away.
Shawn sighed in relief as he watched her walk away. She was getting worse by the day and it was suffocating.
The next few hours were spent replying to emails, taking calls and working on the paperwork on his table. And within the twinkle of an eye, it was lunch break.
He was arranging his table when Rachel walked in. “I can see you are getting ready. Can we leave now?”
“Yes, we can.”
And together they left for the eatery together. Rachel did the ordering, and soon they were digging into their plates.
“So, how was the conference? How did it feel being in the midst of that Calibre of people?” Rachel asked after a few minutes of silence.
Shawn wanted to chide her about talking while eating but thought against it. Knowing who Rachel was, he knew she would never back down until he told her what she wanted to hear.
“It was a wonderful experience. It was basically about business and the evolution in each industry. Everyone contributed their take on each topic and problems were talked about, at the same time, solutions were proffered.”
“Wow! That sounds like a lot. I’m glad you were a part of it.”
“I’m glad I was, too. Now, can we focus on our food?”
“Yes, we can. But that doesn’t stop me from bringing up a topic when any comes to my mind.”
Shawn ignored her and focused on his food. Arguing with her was pointless, and he was not going to tow that part.
A few minutes later, they were done eating and ready to head back to the company.
“It was nice coming here with you, Shawn.” Rachel said as she intertwined their hands.
Shawn stared at their hands but made no comment. Rachel was clingy and loved public display of affection, he would condone it and let her enjoy the luxury while it lasted.
TIFFANY’S POV
School was uneventful, just the usual school routine. Thankfully, Mary did not get in her way.
She attended all her classes and had lunch with her friends at the cafeteria. Soon, school was dismissed for the day and it was time to head back home.
“Thank God it’s Friday. Are we going out tomorrow, guys?” Freya asked as they walked to the parking lot together.
“We should visit the park tomorrow.” Timothy suggested.
“Yes. A little unwinding from the week’s stress. Statistics was very tough this week. It just keeps getting tougher.” Tiffany concurred.
“Well, you chose sciences.” Timothy said, shrugging his shoulders.
“And what’s wrong with that?” Freya asked, getting defensive.
“Chill, Freya. You and I know Science is not for the weak minded.”
“Yeah, I know. I forgot you are chicken minded, hence your decision to join art.”
“Hey, I chose art because that is where my passion lies.”
“And you think Tiff chose science for the fun of it?”
“Chill. That’s not what I meant, Freya.”
“Enough, guys. Every discipline has its own hurdles. You will have to agree with me that it is not all Rosy in the art discipline, Timothy.” Tiffany said, intervening.
“Yeah, that’s right.”
“So, we will talk more via WhatsApp so we can finalize where our hang out spot will be tomorrow.”
“That’s a good idea. I will see you guys tomorrow.” Freya said and they shared a group hug before going their separate ways.
Tiffany got into her car and drove home. She got home and went up to her room to freshen up. Afterward, she went downstairs to make herself cereal fit lunch.
She was at it when the gate bell rang, indicating the presence of someone. She stood up and walked outside and a delivery man was standing by the gate.
“Good day, Ma. Are you Miss Tiffany Dion?”
“Yes, I am. Is there a problem?”
“Not at all. You have a package from Mr Shawn Gold. Kindly append your signature here and you can receive the package.”
“Oh…that’s nice.” Tiffany said and hurriedly appended her signature. The delivery man handed her a wrapped package and she bid him goodbye before walking inside.
Her curiosity got the best part of her as she ignored her lunch and unwrapped the package. Her eyes were met with a beautiful white satin gown, a pair of Diamond encrusted silver heels, and diamond jewelries to match.
Her mouth went open as she gasped in surprise. What was the occasion? Why did Shawn get her such expensive gifts? She doesn’t remember telling him it was her birthday yet.
She hurried upstairs with the gifts as she tried them on. She gasped more after she looked at herself in the mirror and saw how perfect the dress looked on her.
How did he figure out her cloth and shoe size? Shawn Gold was indeed mysterious and unpredictable.
She thought of calling him to ask what the gift was for, but thought against it as she decided to wait for him to get back from work.
She smiled sheepishly as she took off the dress, shoes and jewelry. She hung the dress in her closet, the shoes on the shoe rack and the jewelry in their case.
Then she remembered her cereal and hurried downstairs. It must have gone cold. Just like she predicted, the cereal had gone cold, she took it back to the kitchen and emptied it in the trash can.
Excited, she walked upstairs to chat with her friends.
@Queen Freya
“Lady Tiff, are you there?”
@Lord Timothy III
“Where are you, Tiff? We can’t find you anywhere.”
@Queen Freya
“I hope you are okay? We are worried about you. Your silence is not good at all.”
@Lord Timothy
“I have to go, guys. My mum is threatening to seize my phone. Good night.”
@Queen Freya
“Are you there, Tiff? I will have to go now, too. I hope you are fine. Kindly reply to our messages when you eventually come online. Good night.”
Tiffany sighed in guilt as she read the messages. She always made her friends worried whenever she was unable to reply to their messages.
@Lady Tiff
“I’m fine, guys. I’m sorry I made you worried. Good night.”
Afterward, she dropped her phone and went to sleep.
