SHAWN’S POV
He got home and was surprised to see Tiffany sitted in the sitting room with a bandage on her knee.
“Are you okay?” He asked.
“Yes, I am fine.” She replied.
“How did you sustain the injury?” He asked again.
“Can you just go away with your fake concern? You and I know that you don’t care.” Tiffany said.
“You are my responsibility and I have to know what happened to you.” Shawn said.
“Thank you for your concern, but no, I’m not your responsibility.” She said angrily.
“Can I at least take a look?” He asked, hoping she would let him.
“No! Just go away.” She said.
Shawn sighed in resignation. “If you say so. I hope you are fine.” He said and walked up the stairs.
“Not like you care!” He heard her say.
He got to his room and could not help but feel bad. He knew her attitude was as a result of his words at the dinning when they were having breakfast in the morning.
He felt bad he said those words, but to be able to set boundaries he had to be less receptive to her. Emotional attachment was not ideal to him. Not now or anytime soon.
He sighed as he walked into the bathroom to have his bath. He felt better now that his finger was not hurting anymore.
After bathing he returned to the room to be met by missed calls from his mother.
“Hey, mum.” He greeted when she picked up.
“Hey, son. How are you doing?” She asked.
“I’m fine, Mum. How are you and Dad?” Shawn asked as he got in the bed.
“I am fine and your father is fine too.” She said.
“That’s nice. Did you call for anything?” Shawn asked.
“Silly boy! Do I have to call you for a reason?” Mrs Gold scolded.
“Of course not. I was just asking, just in case.” Shawn said.
“I called to check up on you, and your fiance of course. Where is she?” Mrs Gold asked.
“Ummm…she is asleep, Mum.” Shawn replied.
“Okay, then. Say hi to her tomorrow. I have to go now, your father needs me in the bedroom.” Mrs Gold said, playfully.
“Eww, mum! Do I need that information?” Shawn said, feigning disgust.
“I don’t know. Maybe you do. I have to go now.” Mrs Gold said and ended the call.
Shawn chuckled at how dramatic his mother can be. Despite being advanced in age she still displayed a bit of teenage exuberance.
He gradually closed his eyes and gave in to sleep. The next time he woke up, it was morning.
He got ready for work and headed downstairs. He was surprised to see Tiffany in her house wear, having breakfast.
“Aren’t you going to school?” He asked, surprise evident in his tone.
“No, I’m not.” She replied curtly while focusing on her meal.
“Are you sure you are okay?” He asked.
“Yes, I am. Can you please stop asking me? It’s tiring.” She said.
“Sure. I’m off to work.” Shawn said and walked out.
As he drove to work, he couldn’t help but worry about her well-being. She was obviously not fine. Not wanting her to be alone, he dialed his mother’s number.
TIFFANY’S POV
She had woken up hungry and with a sharp pain in her abdomen. Looking at her bedsheet, the bright red stain on it confirmed her suspicion. Her monthly visitor has arrived, hence the hunger and the pain.
She got off the bed, ran herself a hot bath to soothe her body. After which she got out and dressed up after wearing a sanitary pad.
She took two tablets of the Diclofenac medicine Mrs Mia gave her before heading downstairs to have breakfast. She could not go to school with the cramps she was having. She was still having breakfast when Shawn came downstairs.
“Aren’t you going to school?” He asked, surprise evident in his tone.
“No, I’m not.” She replied curtly and focused on her meal.
“Are you sure you are okay?” He asked again.
“Yes, I am. Can you please stop asking me? It’s tiring.” She said.
“Sure. I’m off to work.” He said and walked out.
“Jerk!” She murmured when he left. He didn’t even bother to ask further.
She made a mental note to message her friends about her inability to be in school. After eating, she went back upstairs.
@ Lady Tiff
“Hey guys, I won’t be coming to school today. I’m having cramps. Kindly fill me in on any happenings today.”
@Lord Timothy III
“Sorry about that. Take something to relieve the pain.”
@Queen Freya
“Sorry, Tiff. Do you want us to come over after school?”
@Lady Tiff
“No, please. I have to go now.”
Tiffany had to end the chat when she saw Mrs Gold’s call.
“Good morning, Ma.” She greeted.
“Oh, my darling. How are you?” Mrs Gold asked, concerned in her tone.
“I am fine, Ma.” Tiffany replied.
“No, you are not. Shawn told me you are not. He said you were injured.” Mrs Gold said.
“He did?” Tiffany asked in surprise.
“Yes, he did. You know what? Prepare, I’m sending my driver to pick you up. You can’t stay in that house all by yourself.” Mrs Gold said.
“Okay, Ma.” Tiffany said.
She was surprised Shawn had called his mother to inform her about her injury. He was such an unpredictable human being. Acting like he cared this minute and acting like he doesn’t the next minute.
She pushed thoughts of him out of her bed and got dressed. She didn’t want to keep the driver Waiting. After preparing, she went downstairs to wait.
A few minutes later, the driver arrived and she went outside to the car. “Good morning, Sir.” She greeted him as she entered the car.
“Good morning, Miss.” He replied
After a few minutes’ drive, they arrived at the Gold’s Mansion. Mrs Gold was waiting at the entrance door.
“Oh, my poor baby girl.” She said as she engulfed Tiffany in a hug.
“Good morning, Ma.” Tiffany greeted, returning the hug.
“Henceforth, call me mum. Come in, let me take a look at the injury.” Mrs Gold said and led her inside.
“How did you sustain the injury?” Mrs Gold asked, when they were sitted in the sitting room.
“I fell down in school.” Tiffany replied.
“Oh, dear. Please, be careful next time.” Mrs Gold said.
“I Will, Mum.” Tiffany said, and Mrs Gold’s face broke out in a smile.
“Thank you for calling me that. Have you had breakfast?”
“Yes. I had cereal.” Tiffany replied.
“Nonsense! I will make you something more delicious and healthier, ” Mrs Gold said, standing up on her feet.
“Can I please join you in the kitchen?” Tiffany asked, not wanting to be left alone in the sitting room.
“No, dear. Sit here and rest.” Mrs Gold said.
“I promise I won’t do anything but watch.” Tiffany persisted.
“Fine.” Mrs Gold said heading for the kitchen and Tiffany happily followed her
