“Hey, Mum.”
“Shawn, you bad child! You proposed to a girl and you didn’t tell me.” Mrs Amber gold yelled into the phone.
“I was waiting for you to get back from your vacation, Mum.”
“I am sure this was your father’s handiwork. And you both didn’t bother to tell me. I’m on vacation doesn’t mean you both should cut me off from what is happening in the family.”
“We are sorry, Mum. And it is high time you got back.”
“I will, baby. So, you are getting married to Tiffany?”
“Yes, I am. To become chairman, I have to.”
“Oh, my poor boy. How is she? Do you like her?”
“I don’t, mum. She is a kid.”
“A kid? A nineteen year old is no kid. Try something with her and see if she doesn’t get pregnant. She is a woman, my boy.”
“Mum, stop. I’m not trying anything with her. She moved in with me today, by the ways”
“Oh my God! I am coming home as soon as I can. You mean, Tiffany is in your house? Your father’s idea, I guess.”
“Yes, she is. Her Dad and your husband made the decision. We only followed it”
“You know she is a very attractive girl, how do you intend to cope?” His mum said in a whisper.
“Seriously, Mum? I can get any lady of my choice to satisfy my sexual needs if I want to, but definitely not that highschool girl.”
“We will see how that goes. Say hi to your dad and Tiffany too.”
“Dad is your husband and you have this number, right? As for Tiffany, I might tell her.”
“Come on, baby. You know your Dad is mad at me for going on this vacation without his consent. Just do as I say, okay? Love you. Kiss, kiss. Bye!” And the line went off.
Shawn chuckled. His mother might be a bit crazy, but he loved her regardless. And it felt good talking to her.
She was a social butterfly. Always attending meetings, seminars, conferences and going on vacation trips. She believed in the good life, and always made sure she enjoyed herself.
Having nothing else to do, he got on the bed and went to sleep.
TIFFANY’S POV
She woke up to the noisy grumbling of her stomach. She was hungry and needed to eat something.
Getting off the bed, she went downstairs in search of what to eat. She hoped Shawn had not thrown her leftover food away.
She got to the dinning and found it cleared. Did he thrash the food?
Well, they had to be something in the fridge. She found her way to the kitchen and opened the fridge. There wasn’t much inside, Just fruit and vegetable cracker biscuits. Na, she will skip the crackers.
She took out an apple and strawberries and just as she turned, she saw Shawn standing by the kitchen door and staring at her intently.
“Argh!” She shrieked, the fruits falling off her hands.
He gave her a puzzled look. “Why are you screaming?”
“You startled me of course.”
“What are you doing here?”
“As you can see, I’m with fruits and I came to get them from the fridge.”
“Are you hungry?” He asked.
She hesitated for some time before replying, “Yes, I am. I didn’t finish my lunch.”
“And whose fault is that?” Shawn asked, raising his eyebrows at her.
“I do not know.”
“I will make pasta and steak for dinner. I hope you eat those, or do you eat only seafood and spicy foods.”
“I eat pasta. But if you can make seafood and spicy foods I don’t mind being your guest.”
” I see. And please, you can go back to your room. See a movie, call or chat with your friends. I won’t be needing help.” Shawn said, taking out an apron from one of the kitchen drawers.
“You Know, you think so highly of yourself. I was never going to offer to help.” Tiffany retorted.
“I know, right? Princesses don’t cook. Now run along.”
“You are impossible!” She said before stomping out of the kitchen.
SHAWN’S POV
Did she just say he was impossible? A kettle calling pot black. Not wanting to dwell on some daddy’s brat, He got to work.
He brought out frozen steak from the freezer, veggies, pasta from the drawer, and other ingredients he needed.
His fathers company produces Frozen fast food that when microwaved can be eaten and still give a homemade feeling and taste.
He was going to use the company’s already made sauce for the pasta. No jokes, but his father’s products are the best.
TIFFANY’S POV
What will she do to make him stop seeing her like some daddy’s doll? He always made her feel inadequate and like a spoilt brat by his snide remarks.
Bored and not having anything to do, she decided to take a self tour of the compound. She got outside and took a left turn and it led her to the back of the building. There, she saw a small gate and her curiosity got the best part of her.
She pushed it open, and her mouth fell open when she saw a garden. It was the best she had ever seen. Varieties of colourful flowers from hibiscus, roses, tulips, orchids, peonies, lilies, to sunflowers. She walked in further as she felt each flower. Ahead of her, was a cane swing chair. She yelped in excitement as she ran towards it and sat on it.
Her heart swelled in happiness as she swung herself back and forth on the chair. Who would have thought that Shawn would have a place as aesthetic as this?
She got off, walked to the flowers and carefully plucked out a red rose and then fixed it in her hair. Oh! How much she feels like a Barbie.
Giggling, she started playing and jumping.
SHAWN’S POV
It took him some time to finish preparing dinner. Well, he had no help, hence the delay.
After cleaning the kitchen, the cooking utensils and putting them away he made his way out of the kitchen.
He set the table, after which headed upstairs to call Tiffany for dinner.
He knocked on the door, but there was no response. He knocked again, yet no response. Suspecting she might be asleep, he pushed the door open slowly and peeped inside, but she was not there.
Where could she be? He made his way downstairs and started searching all the rooms, when he didn’t find her in any he became worried.
He decided to go upstairs again. Maybe she was in the bathroom. He knocked on the door but no response. He opened it, and still she was not there.
Now, he was really scared. Had she gone home in anger after their little argument?
He will be damned if anything happens to her. Mr Dion and his father will have his head.
He searched the other rooms upstairs yet no sign of her. Then the pool came to his mind.
He hurried outside to the pool, but she was still not there. He was beginning to have a panic attack.
“Check the garden.” A voice in his head suggested. He was reluctant at first, she can’t know about the garden because it was at the back of the building.
Still he had to check, so he headed for the garden. He got to the gate and threw it open, and there she was, jumping and playing like some kindergarten toddler.
