Chapter Sixty-six: He’s Avoiding Me

Book:Arya's Second Chance Mate Published:2025-3-31

Arya’s POV

They said it was because you left him, and that’s why he has nightmares.

Kelsi’s words stuck to my brain like glue. How could I forget that?

“Have you seen him again?” Kelsi asked me when I didn’t reply to her. Her voice was quite louder this time.

“Hmm, I didn’t get what you said,” I said feigning seriousness as I intently looked into the laptop. I began working again. I was surprised they took me. Angus might have been behind this.

“Come on Arya you forget that I have read you like a book. I know you are trying to avoid this question but something I am very sure of is the fact that you are still in love with Chase. That is one thing you cannot deny.” Kelsi said as she moved to her desk.
I looked up at her receding figure and smiled. Kelsi has already found out.
However, she was a bit wrong in her statement. I didn’t just love Chase, I miss him. He has been using his new maid to keep me at bay. I barely sew him these days
Dince Kelsi told me of his nightmares. It’s been hard sleeping.
“Hey baby girl, we have an emergency meeting at the auditorium” Kelsi popped her head into my office.

“Okay, Kels thanks for the info,” I said as I began to round up my work. After a few minutes, I shut down the laptop and left my office. It was a 2-minute walk from my office and I would see my superiors and some old colleagues. So I rushed into the bathroom to freshen up.
One hour later of listening to my superiors, I got the whole point for the impromptu meeting. They said that we were going to have a conference with another company the next day. Chase was meant to attend. I hope he did.
“I know you are going to dress to kill. You would see Chase?” she asked for the umpteenth time since she came into my office. I sighed and smacked my hand over my face.

“Kelsi, what do you want?” I said it was getting frustrating.
“I want that you to realize that denying your feelings for Chase would it stronger than ever.” Kelsi announced. Yes, she was right.
“Alright I once liked him but now my feelings are different. I just want him to forgive me” I said but I could still see the secret smile playing on her face.

“Get out of my office” I threw her a paper and she left laughing. I didn’t even know when I began to smile. Evening came and it was time to go home. I drove to the mall to get me new clothes. The worst thing that could happen was seeing Chase and not looking dashing.

Everywhere bustled with people in their beautiful dinner gowns. I too was wearing a channel body-hugging gown. Many Alphas were in attendance too

“Please can I have that” I asked the waiter and took the glass. I was down to my third glass and Chase was not in sight.
“Hey Kels” I waved to my friend.

“Wow babe easy” she whispered into my ears as she stared down at my glass. I was about to defend myself when I heard voices. I turned and it was Chase and his friends. He didn’t see me… yet.

“Hi, Chase ” the Luna of the other company winked at him and his friends as they made their way to their seats. I resisted the urge to roll my eyes. We were all interrupted by the bosses of our company.

“So hello everyone. It’s nice to have you all gathered here. All smiles. The reason we are calling for this conference was to make a few announcements. Firstly I would like to thank you all for keeping some set of rules. They were the sort set of nonsensical rules but you have no say in these rules because none of you guys are the boss-”

“Can you imagine this?” Kelsi nudged me and I shook my head. The boss continued.
“So we have called off the rule that said none of you would date another from the other company,” he said there was a deafening sound of applause.

“Oh great now some people are no longer together,” Kelsi whispered. The boss continued.
“Yeah, it’s like medicine after death,” I said.

“Also I have another announcement-he was interrupted by his secretary”

“Speak Sebastian, you didn’t Interrupt a thing,” the boss said. He was whispered into the ear and he called up the new boss of Chase’s company. She came up to the podium.

“Okay guys, we would like to announce our engagement, “he said kissing her ring finger. Everyone’s jaw was hanging as others clapped. I couldn’t believe it. They played a fast one on us. I looked at Kelsi and we burst into laughter.

“So guys let’s mingle! I’ll now take my leave now ” he said bowing to the audience and leaving with his fiance. He swaggered on his way out. This Time he smirked and blew the people kisses on his way out, while his Fiancee smiled like an idiot.

“So Chase,” one of the alphas said and then my ears tuned in like that of an antenna.

“You found your mate yet?”

“no guys but I assure you. You I am the happiest man alive. Chase exclaimed. And they laughed harder.” Come on guys, let’s go celebrate, cheers to me” Chase said. I was wondering if this newfound happiness had anything to do with me.

“Same here” the others exclaimed. So Chase hugged his friends and thanked them but being there with him. By now I was straining my ears to hear what they were saying.

“Alright guys I’ll be right back,” Chase said and left in a car.

I had given up on myself and Chase. He didn’t even see me tonight. So I decided to leave for my office.

“Shit” I had spilled wine on my dress. I walked into the closet, took off my dress, and wore Kelsi’s big sweatshirt she always used when it was freezing.

Then I began to wash. When I finished I brought out my hair dryer. I was frustrated about where I could plug it. The socket in the female bathroom was bad

So I rushed into the Male bathroom and locked it. Luckily there was a socket.

I plugged in the dryer and began to dry my dress. It was really a slow process. I managed to bring out my phone so I could play some music and dance. When I was lost in my singing, I saw a pair of legs and I froze.

” Oh my Gosh!” I exclaimed.
