chapter 50: I don’t care

Book:Arya's Second Chance Mate Published:2025-3-31

Arya’s POV
We celebrated Chase’s birthday but deep down I wasn’t an inch comfortable. Well who cares if he and Mika were like bread and butter.
After the celebration, I walked upstairs and went straight into my son’s room. I tried to put his room in place when I felt a presence behind me. I turned to find Kelsi.
“Hey girl” I smiled at her.
“Hey” she said. Kelsi walked over to a toy rack and picked up a teddy.
“I didn’t see you downstairs” she muttered. I nodded.
“Oh” I smiled or rather sighed. “I got tired and decided to come upstairs” I said cleaning underneath my son’s bed.
“Oh really?” she asked.
“Yes really” I replied. My voice a bit sharper than I intended. It screamed of nothing defense. I kept fiddling with the clothes. Arranging and rearranging it all. No word was said between us.
Kelsi cleared her throat. “Are you jea-”
“Please don’t start again Kelsi” I interrupted her.
“I didn’t say-”
“I don’t want to hear it” I snapped at her. I packed the remaining of the clothes and left the room.

3 months later
Breathe Arya Breathe.
It can’t be him.
I strained my neck and there he was. In flesh and blood
Chase.
It’s been three months of successfully avoiding Chase. I didn’t want to have anything to do with him so I timed everything. From his waking up to going to bed. Even time with our son was rationed. Kelsi tried to talk me out of it but I had already made my mind. He should go be with Mika.
Maybe I was too jealous but I just didn’t want to get too attached to him. My heart was at stake here. I mean he spends the night with me then a few days later, he’s all close to Mika. I felt used.
I had earlier spoken to Angus to find me a job and even though I thought he wouldn’t, he did. One thing I loved about Beta was his ability to not talk me about not talking to his boss. He just let me be. I began working in this admistrative company a few meters away from where Kelsi worked. But what no one told me was that Chase was the Boss, I mean I should have known but I figured since I didn’t see him for a month, I thought it was not his company.
Immediately I spun around. My heart hammered against my chest. I made a dash to the receptionist.
“Where can I find the bathroom?” My voice was all panicky
“Anxiety huh” the receptionist chuckled. I gave her a nervous laugh and she pointed to the left. Without thinking I dashed into the bathroom. In the process, I bumped into someone on her way out and the contents in her hands spilled over. The cup of coffee flew up and splattered over us. My white cotton Chiffon top was ruined instantly.
Shit! Shit! Shit! This can’t be happening right now”
I scrubbed and scrubbed hard at the part of my blouse. It was getting faint but it was also getting the whole outfit wet.
“Uggh” I groaned and suddenly stopped. I looked up at the mirror. Jeez I looked like a scared squirrel. I patted my hair and fixed my lipstick, while waiting for my clothes to dry. Suddenly I grabbed my phone and clicked on search engine and then I gasped. Chase had been the Billionaire werewolf who owned it all an office in almost all packs. How come I never knew of this? I never knew he owned king conglomerate.
I let out a breath as I dropped my phone. Now what do I do? Hell no. I was never going to work for him. Never. I don’t care if I was on fire and he was the only one with water on earth, I’d rather burn than take from him.
I managed to still look presentable after everything. The plan was to put my head down and walk out of the company, not minding anyone. But the moment I opened the bathroom door, I gasped.
“Come here” Chase grabbed me by the hand and we began to walk into his office. He saw me. That fucker saw me.
We got into his office and he locked the door. We stood far from each other. My heart clenched and I thought my eyes was playing tricks on me. It was really him. It was really Chase. He hadn’t changed much. He was still as handsome as ever. His hair was darker and his eyes were the exact dark shade of sin. When he stared at me, it was a combination of compulsion and authority. Chase made me squirm with his gaze.
Oh my gosh.
“Hi Arya, I know you are pissed and-“. I slapped him across the face.
He clutched a hand to his cheek. “Okay I know I deserved that” he flexed his jaw. “You hit hard for a woman. What a punch?” he said rubbing his cheek. The thought of my self-defense class, came to mind and I almost smiled.
“That was a warning” I said.
“Yea I deserve that” he made to come closer.
“DON’T” I yelled and then reduced my voice. He raised his hands in mock innocence.
“Let them hear. I agree I was wrong Arya. I did all sorts of things but I am sorry okay”
“Save it for your sorry ass. I don’t need it” I spat and began walking to the door.
“I don’t get why you are pissed at me!” I stopped. “I mean I have tried talking to you but all you id was run away like a little girl!”
I turned to him. “Well when I wanted to talk you were already in another woman’s arms?”
“Woman! Is it Mika?”
“Oh please” I raised my hand up.
“You know there’s nothing between us. I mean it’s like I blur lines like you do with Jake!”
I gasped. I clenched my fist and gritted. “I guess I will be with Jake then!”
Now was his time to gasp.
