Chapter 42: Good Terms

Book:Arya's Second Chance Mate Published:2025-3-31

Chase’s POV
I watched Arya squeeze her face in disgust as soon as I and Angus and Kelsi joined her in the beach. I sniffed the air. There was nothing rotten in the air. So what was that? I was about to speak to her when she looked away. As if avoiding me.
I turned to Angus and he blinked. So I let it slide. We tried to talk and all but Arya was the least responsive. She just her head down, staring at a magazine. I just had to ask questions.
“Arya” she looked up at me. “You okay?” She immediately nodded and continued reading the magazine. I stared at Angus again and he shrugged. Suddenly she stood up from the cane chair.
“I think I’ll go inside now,” she said. “Kelsi are coming?”
Kelsi who was eating an Ice Cream, didn’t notice her stand.
“Kelsi!”
“What? What?” she turned around.
“Are you coming?” Arya asked. Kelsi was yet to catch up on it until it hit her.
“Sure sure” she stood up and waved at Angus before leaving.
I sighed and relaxed on the chair.
“Your highness, these things take time” Angus said. I nodded. “You don’t believe me?” I sat up and nodded.
“No I do,” I said. “But working with females required patience. One minute you this k you are making progress and the next, you have fallen 10, 000 steps behind”
Angus chuckled.
After I found my son and we got back to the pack, I killed all the people involved but then something Dean said got to me. He said he felt we had spilled a lot of blood lately. Angus and Hercules agreed to it. I saw a point in what they were saying.
Then when I tried to ask Angus about my relationship with Arya. He shook his head and sighed. He said with the way I had spoken to Arya when we were looking for our son was not the best. That even if she was planning on liking me for real, she might have taken a step back. That night I count sleep as I kept going over what I had done.
Hercules asked me that if I was a girl, will I go out with someone like myself. So I asked them for a way forward. Angus suggested I take it easy with her. Hercules was of the opinion that I listen to her. When I spoke it Andre, he said I should take Arya on a date. Surprisingly Mika was nowhere to be found when I asked, they told me she had gone home to the human world to see her family. Her mother was human where her father was a werewolf.
So after thinking, I was going to go with what Angus said. I struck a conversation with her during the mountain climbing. And the walks. They were best. After that I became sure that we were on the same page, until now.
I let out a deep breath and put my hands in my pocket. “So what’s next now?” I turned to Angus.
“Hmm try doing something like a family.”
“Chamberlin has to come too?”
Angus smiled. “Yes”

Colorful walls. Stuffed bears, small chairs and little books were littered everywhere as I lay on the bed beside Arya and watched our son try to read us a story. This night we are doing the reverse, he said he would be reading me and Arya a bed time story.
“Are you comfortable dad?’ he asked as he stared at the sheets. I nodded.
“Never been better Cham” I smiled.
“What of you mum?” he turned to Arya who had been smiling at him all through. “Yes baby”
She moved farther from me on the bed as she [plastered a smile on her face. I didn’t need a soothsayer to tell me she was uncomfortable, laying in the same bed with me. I sat up, using my hands to support myself, I was higher and could see Arya’s face well enough.
Chamberlin cleared his throat like I did, last week when I read to him. “Once upon a time there was…” and so he trailed off. Arya slightly turned and we coincidentally locked gaze. She stared at me for a while until she looked away. I could swear I saw a blush. By the time we turned our attention back on Chamberlin, he was already sleeping.
Arya chuckled and I smiled as we exchanged a glance. Quietly I stood up from the bed and helloed Arya up too. I carried my son and carefully dropped him on the bed. I covered him with the sheets. Arya began to clear the room of toys and all. When we finished we walked out of his room and switched off the light.
“err… er thanks” Arya stammered as soon as we were out of the room.
“For what?” I asked.
“For honoring thru invite, amidst your busy schedule” she said. I smiled and shook my head.
“It’s no use thanking me. Chamberlin is mine too” I said. Arya stared at me and nodded.
“I’ll leave then” she said. ]
“Wait” I said. She stopped in her tracks and I walked up to her.
“I was thinking, why don’t we go out?” I said.
“Out? Like where?” she asked.
I scratched my head and gave off a nervous laugh. “I was think why don’t we go for a picnic tomorrow” her eyes flew wide. “It will be just you, me and Cham” I said. And then I saw her face light up with a smile.
Arya nodded. “That’s not bad”
“You want that too?” I asked. She nodded.
“Yes”
I stared into Arya’s eyes and I could feel it. That magnet pull. My wolf was excited. She was my mate. She just didn’t want to acknowledge it. Arya immediately looked away as she idled away touching her hair. She was shy. What does that mean?
She bade me goodnight and I waved at her. I could feel deep down that some good would come out of this.
