Arya’s POV
I noticed people were beginning to stare. The murmuring was becoming too loud to ignore. Even all the music had stopped. No one was dancing. Everyone was looking in our direction. That was the exact stuff I didn’t want. Having attention on me. I wanted nothing but to disappear into thin air.
I grabbed my other hand. In a bid to stop it from shaking. I looked from Chase’s dark, narrowed eyes to Jake and Anastasia’s smirking smile. I knew something bad was going to happen. Something brutal. Involving blood. Chase was never the patient one. He always acted. Showed his anger. Never tolerated. At times he can be crafty but I think he’s not as impulsive as people think.
“Hello FRIEND” Jake smirked as he made sure to emphasize his last word. I turned to Chase. He stared at them and deadpanned. Then he rubbed a hand over his eyes.
“Who let this dog in here” gasps erupted through, while some people sniggered. And just like that the smirk on Jake and Anastasia’s face was wiped off.
“You know better than to call me that!” Jake said with gritted teeth. He was angry. Silently angry. I still remember when he was pissed like this. It was the first time he acted out. The first time he spilled blood.
My heart raced as I watched him glare murderously at Chase.
Chase rolled his eyes. “Yeah yeah what are going to do?” he began to stare at his nails and then he slowly looked up. I loved the way he carried himself. Even in situations like this.
Jake narrowed his eyes at him. He put his hands in his pocket and my heart raced. Was that a gun?
I immediately turned to Chase. Pleading with my eyes. I didn’t want to have to explain to my 6 year old, how blood was spilled all his birthday. Chase stared at me. It felt like it was just the both of us that were in the room.
I could tell he was asking me if I was alright. I tried so hard to tell him to let it slide. Let us all have a party and drink and be merry. Well only if I knew, Jake and Anastasia didn’t come to drink and merry. I should have known that those two, had an ulterior motive in mind.
Chase kept a steady gaze on me. Then he would close his eyes briefly and then open them again. It was like he was savoring the moment. It reminded me of what he had said earlier. Chase King had called me beautiful. His gaze lingered on me and I too didn’t want to look away for any other reason. My breath quickened and my throat went dry, having Chase stare at me, from my lips to my eyes made me feel like I was being watched by microscope.
“The least both of you can do is get a room and fuck” Jake spat. I could hear gasps echo through the room my face went aflame as I ducked.
“Head up Arya” Chase ordered and I looked up. He turned to Jake and gave him a smug smile.
“I bet your Luna would be dying to be in her shoes” My eyes went wide and giggled. Chase knew that Jake and Anastasia were having a rocky union too. What the hell does Chase King not know?
Anastasia stood there, pale and with a drooping shoulder. It reminded me of the moment I stood and watched my best friend dance with the guy I had always liked. Speaking of Fifi, I wondered how life has been treating her.
Chase rolled his eyes. “I’m in a good mood, you should have had it coming the moment you walked into this party,” he said and walked away. Angus followed him closely. That sort of dissolved the tension and drama. Kelsi immediately found me.
“What just happened?” she smiled.
“Come let’s go, I don’t want to have something to do with my sister” When I looked up, I realized that Anastasia was staring in my direction. I pulled Kelsi along as we went to the VIP section of the party. It was a deliberate effort to avoid Anastasia and her minions. Because as I sat with Kelsi, I could see them staring in my direction.
Suddenly I felt uncomfortable with the way they were staring in our direction.
“They are here”
“Where?” she asked turning her head around like a newborn.
“Don’t look at them!” I whispered harshly into her ears.
“Oh,” Kelsi carefully turned around and stared at them. “Witches” she hissed. I laughed.
“Come on let’s leave,” I said.
“What? Why? “Kelsi faced me, stopping her last dancing. “Until when will you stop running from these people”
I went silent because she had a point. But then I was never a drama person. I just loved my peace. Especially now it was my son’s birthday.
“Come on let’s go back into the palace,” I said. “I just have this feeling” Kelsi stared at me and I shrugged.
“You need to stop being scared” she grumbled as we exited the VIP section. I didn’t try to know where Anastasia and her minions were, because I was laughing at something Kelsi was saying when someone dragged me by the hand. I turned around and my heart skipped a beat.
It was Anastasia and Olivia and Fifi and two other girls, I could not recognize. She smirked as I stared at her with wide eyes. We were in the middle of the VIP section.
“Hello sister” she sneered. I tried to look calm. Squeezing Kelsi’s hands, I tried to breathe.
“What do you want?” I glared at her.
“You haven’t changed one bit” Anastasia chuckled and the others laughed with her.
“Well, you have really changed. Can’t you see how caked your face is from all that makeup? I know it’s hard keeping what you have stolen from me” I said with gritted teeth. Kelsi burst into laughter. Not caring that Anastasia was staring daggers at her.
Kelsi smiled. “Tell me where the lie is?”
“Don’t you dare talk to me” Anastasia shot Kelsi a glare. “Do you know who I am?”
“Emm you don’t know? Your mother didn’t tell you” Kisi replied. I clasped a hand over my mouth, turning to Kelsi. Bars!!!
