Alexander pov
“The contract has been successfully signed, and the goods have been delivered to the client without any major issues, except for the fact that some of our men ran off with a portion of the goods…”
Adrian’s voice faded into the background as I slipped into a daze. My mind wandered, thoughts clouding my focus as I struggled to pay attention to the important matters at hand.
How could I, when all I could think about was her? About what had happened last night, and most importantly, about losing control and doing what I did.
I didn’t despise her touch. She was the first woman, aside from Emily, that I couldn’t push away. I was dangerously close to losing every ounce of restraint I had, on the verge of giving in to the urge to take her right then and there. I could feel the need building, the desire to tear away her clothes and leave her breathless beneath me, but somehow, I managed to hold it in.
“Boss, what should we do with the traitors?” Adrian’s voice snapped me out of my daze. My eyes flickered to him, noting his stoic expression as he waited for my response.
I straightened in my seat, flicking the cigarette butt into the ashtray before downing the glass of whiskey in one go.
“What else? Find them and kill them. Make an example out of them. No one betrays me and gets away with it-you should know that by now,” I said with an air of indifference, reaching for the tablet on the table and turning it on.
“Deliver the goods to the next client. I don’t want any mistakes this time, so make sure you recruit loyal men. And Adrian…” My voice dropped, my tone sharp and cold. “Don’t fail me again. There have been too many mistakes lately-I do not tolerate mistakes.”
“Understood, boss,” Adrian replied immediately, his voice firm.
I turned my attention back to the tablet, scrolling down as I prepared to issue another command. However, a sharp yell from outside the door stopped me mid-sentence.
“Sebastian, let me in! Don’t lie for that idiot-I know Alexander is in there, goddamnit!” Daniel’s loud, angry voice echoed from the hallway, making me raise an eyebrow.
“D-Dr. Daniel, Boss really isn’t in there! I swear, you should believe me! H-he’s not in his study. He went out!” Sebastian stammered nervously, his voice slightly muffled.
“Don’t lie to me. I know you well enough to tell when you’re lying. Your face flushes bright red, and you push your glasses higher than usual,” Daniel countered sharply.
“Y-you know all that?” Sebastian’s voice softened, laced with surprise. “Wow, Dr. Daniel, I’m… flustered.”
Adrian and I exchanged a look but said nothing.
“I-I mean, of course I notice! But not just about you, I notice everyone too!” Daniel added quickly, his voice stumbling over itself.
“Oh, I see… sorry for misunderstanding,” Sebastian replied, sounding awkwardly shy.
“Wait, that’s not what I-!” Daniel began, but I cut him off before the scene could devolve into an awkward soap opera.
“Let him in, Sebastian,” I said, dropping the tablet back onto the desk. My eyes flicked to the door, narrowing slightly, my expression that of utter boredom.
“O-okay, Boss. Dr. Daniel, you can enter,” Sebastian stammered.
His words were followed by a loud, frustrated scoff and the sound of the door slamming open. Daniel strode in with a sharp glare, but I didn’t so much as acknowledge him.
Daniel is my twin brother, pretty surprising considering how God had bypassed him and gave me all the brains in the family. From a young age, Daniel had no interest in the mafia business. Instead, he preferred saving lives over taking them-his so-called motto.
“The more lives you take, the more I’ll save. Maybe, just maybe, that’ll earn you a ticket to heaven instead of a front-row seat in hell next to Dad.”
He liked to claim he became a doctor for me, but if you asked me, he did it because he wasn’t man enough to handle the family business. A weakling-that’s what I called him.
I tilted my head slightly and watched him with a bored expression, unimpressed by his poor attempt to make me flinch under his glare.
When he realized his tactic wasn’t working, Daniel sighed dramatically, flipping his hair. Then, with an exaggerated sneer, he pulled out a chair and sat down across from me.
“I’ll be leaving, boss,” Adrian said with a bow, and I waved him off nonchalantly. As soon as the door closed behind him, Daniel opened his mouth to speak, but I raised my hand to stop him.
“Think wisely before you speak,” I warned, my tone low. “I’m not in a very good mood, and I might just shoot you in anger.”
Daniel immediately clamped his mouth shut, narrowing his eyes at me before letting out a frustrated sigh.
“Don’t get Sebastian to lie again. It makes him nervous,” he said, crossing his legs as he settled into the seat, his posture languid. I had to admit, while God might have skipped giving him a brain, he certainly gifted him with a beauty that could rival women.
Daniel and I barely looked alike. Our faces were somewhat similar, but our hair color and temperaments were worlds apart. To put it simply, Daniel was the kind of man who exuded a refined, almost feminine energy, unlike me.
“Is that the reason you came here?” I asked, pouring myself another glass, but Daniel scoffed.
“You know exactly why I’m here! The girl. What are you going to do about her? What if she regains her memory, Alexander?” He hissed, his voice low and tense. “What will you do then? I could lose my license because of this!”
“So, you’re scared you’ll go to jail because of it?” I taunted, the corner of my lips curling into a smirk as I swirled the alcohol.
“Of course! I’m not a thug like you. I’m a law-abiding citizen, and I can’t go to jail. You know, I looked it up-if a man like me ends up in jail, then…” He shuddered at the thought, shaking his head. “Anyways, this is all on you. I’m not involved in this!”
“You’re making a big deal out of nothing. You didn’t complain when I shot the man who kidnapped you dead for sleeping with his wife. And by the way, I was wondering why you did that when you’re gay.” I raised an eyebrow, casually sipping from my glass.
Daniel gasped, his eyes widening, and his face went pale. “W-what gave you the idea I’m gay? I’m straight! Why would you think that?”
I shrugged, taking another sip.
“That’s not even the point!” He waved his hand, pointing an accusing finger at me. “I know what you’re thinking, you demon. You want to torture the poor girl for something her father did. This is wrong. Don’t you pity her, after everything she’s been through?”
He wasn’t wrong. That was what I wanted to do, but then again, what happened yesterday felt more like I was the one being tortured.
I stayed silent for a moment, my thoughts swirling, before I finally shrugged.
“Alexander, I know you’re still angry about what Nico did, but this…” Daniel’s voice softened, his tone more earnest now. “This is wrong. Not only did you change her appearance to look like Emily, but you faked her death, too. Now you’re making her live as Emily. That’s some fucked-up shit right there.”
“You sure have a lot to say for someone who’s not even sure about his sexuality,” I sneered. Daniel’s eyes widened at my words, his mouth opening to retort, but before he could, the door burst open. Sebastian walked in quickly, drawing our attention to him.
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Daniel choke on his spit, hitting his chest in a desperate cough. His eyes locked with Sebastian’s, who flushed under the gaze before quickly moving closer to me. His eyes panicked as he pushed his glasses higher- something he did when he was nervous.
“B-Boss, we have a problem! The madam and the young master are missing!”
