Alexander pov
“P-please, I’m begging you, Boss! I didn’t betray you. I swear, I didn’t kidnap the young master! I only took him for a walk, and before I knew it, someone knocked me unconscious. When I woke up, the young master was gone. Please, believe me-I swear on my life!” The woman’s screams pierced my ears, echoing like a siren’s call, a haunting wail that seemed to bless my senses. It ignited something deep within me, sending a spark through my veins-it made me crave more.
I needed more.
“Really? You swear on your life? How amusing. You’re pleading for your life, yet you’re willing to stake it so easily,” I said, crossing my legs with an air of indifference.
“I swear, I didn’t betray you, Boss!” she pleaded, her voice trembling.
“Then why did you go into hiding, hmm? If you didn’t do anything wrong, you wouldn’t have needed to run.” I leaned closer. “It’s common sense, really.”
“Because I know you’ll kill me, Boss,” she stammered, tears streaming down her face. “If I was caught, I knew my life would end!”
“That is true,” I heard Sebastian comment from behind me, but I chose to ignore the idiot.
“Alright then, explain this-how do you justify the large sum of money in your account? It’s far more than what you’d expect for a nanny’s salary. Do you really think I’m that naive?”
“It’s… it’s not what you think!” her eyes were wide with panic as she desperately tried to explain herself. “I-I swear, the money is not from Nico, I-I just…”
I cut her off with a simple wave of my hand. “Don’t lie to me. I asked a simple question. How do you explain it?”
Her lips trembled as she tried to form words, but no excuses came. Tired of wasting precious time, I drove the dagger deeper into her thigh and warm blood pooled in my hands. Her body convulsed in pain, tears streaming down her face as she begged for mercy, but all that escaped her lips were desperate screams. Pathetic.
“I am going to ask you one last time, and you are going to answer truthfully, because if you don’t, your last eye is next so tell me…” I said, tilting my head slightly to the side as I studied the woman before me, “how much information did you feed Nico, and how many of his spies are working for me?”
“I don’t k-know”
“Well, seems like you don’t want your other eye,” I muttered under my breath, rising from the chair. Without hesitation, I grabbed her by the hair, yanking her head back. My grip on the knife tightened as I brought the blade dangerously close to her remaining eye.
“Wait!!! i-I’ll tell you, boss, ahh!” She gasped between sobs.
“Really? You would be a good girl and tell me everything?” I chuckled darkly, and when she nodded, I released my grip, getting back to my seat.
“I was desperate, boss. I needed to pay off my debt, and that was when Nico approached me. He offered to clear everything if I kidnapped the young master the day you were leaving for Russia. At first, I refused, but I didn’t have a choice, boss. A-and I don’t know anything about the others that might be working for him. Please forgive me, I won’t do it again, I swear.”
My eyes grew colder with each word she spoke. Forgive? I don’t forgive-not when Felix had come so close to death, and especially not when he had to relive the same trauma from that day all over again.
This fool thought she could escape the consequences of what she’d done? She’d been allowed to go free for the past two weeks because I had no time to deal with it. But now that I had needed to let out my frustration, I had her brought in. For hours, I’d been torturing her-one part for information, and the other… for my own amusement.
“I forgive you,” I said, nodding my head. “And I trust you won’t do it again.”
Her eyes widened in relief, but my next words cut short whatever relief she had.
“I mean, why would you do it again when you’re going to be dead?” I said, shrugging casually before stretching my hand out.
Aiden stepped forward, placing a gun into my palm. Before she could utter another pathetic plea, I pulled the trigger, the shot echoing through the room. The bullet found its mark, and she slumped, her head thrown back as her life ended in an instant
I stared coldly as blood pooled on the basement floor for a brief moment before clicking my tongue in irritation as I glanced down at myself. Blood stained my clothes.
“Boss.” Aiden handed me a handkerchief. I took it and wiped the blood from my hands. Once I was done, I tossed it back on the tray and grabbed my whiskey, downing it in seconds.
“Boss, are you okay?” Sebastian asked hesitantly. “You seem really angry… angrier than usual.”
I turned to him with a glare, and he flinched, quickly averting his gaze.
“Sebastian,” I said, my voice low and thick with irritation. The alcohol was starting to get to me, and everything felt magnified. “You seem to love talking a lot, especially to Daniel. Are you going behind my back, or is there something going on between you two?”
I meant it as a joke, but his reaction was immediate. His eyes widened, and his face flushed a deep red.
“W-what are you talking about, boss? I swear, there is nothing going on between Dr. Daniel and I!”
I raised an eyebrow at him, but before I could say anything more, Aiden called for my attention.
“Boss, this is the phone you requested,” he said, passing a phone to me. I took it and scanned through the messages, my expression turning colder with each one. My eyes lingered on the last message, sent on the day of the accident.
Unknown sender: Did you complete the job? Take him to the intersection. The truck will be waiting, and the money will be transferred to you.
I scowled, my grip tightening around the phone before I tossed it back to Aiden.
“We are unable to track the phone, it’s buner but we might be able to”
“Don’t bother,” I interrupted, my voice sharp. “What’s the point when I already know who it is?”
Without waiting for a response, I stood and made my way to my room.
As I walked, the world around me felt blurry, like everything was slipping through my fingers. But one thing was clear in my mind-I needed a plan. A plan to take that bastard down.
My mind wandered back to his daughter-the audacity of that girl, touching me without my permission earlier today. She had the nerve to lay her hands on me and then call me shy. I scoffed at the thought, but I couldn’t deny the heat that surged through me as I remembered the softness of her lips against mine.
“Would you like anything to eat, Sir Alexander?” Martha’s voice broke through my thoughts, and I stopped in my tracks.
I shook my head, clearing my mind. “Is she in her room?”
“Yes, sir. Madam is already asleep,” she answered, her tone revealing she knew exactly who I was referring to.
“Good. Keep a tight watch on her,” I instructed and with that, I walked into my room and closed the door behind me, shutting out the rest of the world.
I peeled off my clothes, tossing them carelessly onto the counter, before stepping into the shower. The warm water hit my skin, and I ran a hand through my wet hair, pushing it back from my face as the droplets trailed down my broad shoulders and over my body.
After a long moment of letting the water wash away the tension, I stepped out of the shower and grabbed a towel. With a swift motion, I wrapped it low around my waist, the fabric clinging to my damp skin.
Walking out of the bathroom, I ran a clean towel through my hair, the soft fabric drying the wet strands. My eyes instinctively went to my phone-it had been a long day, and I needed a glass of wine to help me unwind before sleep.
But before I could grab my phone, I heard the faint creak of my door.
Without thinking, my hand instinctively reached for the gun on the table instead. I aimed it with precision, the safety clicked off, and I slowly turned the handle. As the door creaked open, I kept the gun leveled, my eyes narrowing on the figure standing in the doorway.
I had expected anything that night. An assassin wouldn’t have shocked me like this. But what I hadn’t prepared for was Valentina standing at my door, her eyes wide in surprise as she stared at me.
Her gaze was fixed on me for a moment, disbelief in her expression, before her eyes dropped, and a soft gasp escaped her lips. My annoyed frown quickly shifted as I followed her gaze, only to realize that my towel had slipped during my movements.
I was standing there, completely exposed before her.
Ah, shit.
