Jason.
“Who are you and what do you want from me?” I snapped angrily.
“I can’t believe you don’t remember me!” He snapped back and I scoffed.
“What is your problem?” I asked angrily.
“You don’t know me and then you walk up to me demanding that I talk to you, are you some kind of pervert?” I asked with a big frown.
“I’m sorry to break it to you but I’m not gay!” I said with a loud voice and he laughed.
“Ofcourse you’re not gay, you fucked my sister for years, how could you possibly be gay?” He snapped and that’s when I became fully sober.
“You’re Alice’s brother?” I asked in a calmer voice.
“Yeah, I’m Alice’s brother.” He said coldly.
“So what do you want from me?” I asked.
“Beats me!” He shrugged.
“If you don’t have anything to say, I’m gonna go.” I said walking away to where I parked my car.
“Don’t you feel sorry at all?” He asked, following behind me.
“Sorry for what?” I asked stopping in my tracks and turn to face him.
“Sorry for smashing my sister and leaving her like that.” He said coldly and I scoffed.
“You say this like I’m the only guy your sister ever slept with.” I said coldly matching his own gaze.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” He asked.
“Why don’t you tell me?” I smirked.
“Are you saying that my sister is a slut?” He asked and I chuckled darkly.
“I didn’t say anything, you said that yourself.” I said and he punched me.
“Ouch!” I winced in pain.
“What did you do that for?” I yelled angrily as I staggered backwards.
“That’s for leaving Alice like that.” He said.
“You don’t deserve Eve.” He said quietly.
“Oh shut your trap!” I said as I gave him a punch too, he wasn’t expecting it so he staggered backwards until he fell on his butt.
“You have no right to tell me anything about Eve, she’s my wife and a third party like you has no right to intervene.” I said angrily.
“I’m telling you because I know you’re just a douchebag.” He said angrily and I scoffed.
“Then you’re a fool.”
“If you think coming here to beg me to take Alice back is a good idea, think again!”
“I love Eve and I’m never going to love anyone but her, what Alice and I had is something everybody do these days, we pleasure ourselves and we both enjoyed it, I never promised her anything, she’s the one who went and fell in love so don’t ever point your filthy fingers at me and call me a douche bag.” I said angrily.
“You’re a worse douchebag than me!” I snapped and walked away leaving him on the floor.
“You’ll lose Eve too, I promise you that.” He screamed loudly as I walked away but I didn’t turn to face him or anything. I just continued to walk until I got to where I parked my car.
I got into my car and I expected him to come to the car and do something stupid like smash the windows or just bang it with his fist but he never came.
I sighed in relief. Not that I was scared of him or anything. But I’m not really in the state to fight with anybody. Since I’m drunk and all.
I called a designated driver who came thirty minutes later to drive me back to the hospital.
While he drove me to the hospital, I couldn’t help but feel like I have seen Mark before. And that’s when it clicked, I saw him at the stables with Eve. He was the guy I saw hugging her that day. So they know each other? Is that why he said I don’t deserve Eve?
All sorts of things were running through my mind. I wonder if Eve knew that Mark is Alice’s brother. If she knew, maybe she wouldn’t be friends with him anymore.
Alice once told me about her brother and she didn’t talk about him in a good light, have they reconciled? Or what is the reason why he’s suddenly playing the good cop?
Did he suddenly feel the need to act like a good brother to Alice?.
When we arrived at the hospital, I paid the designated driver, collected my keys and I took the elevator to the second floor where Eve’s ward is.
There was nobody sitting outside the ward and it reminded me of what Mark said earlier.
“You’ll lose Eve too.”
Was it a threat or had it already happened? Have I already lost her?
I ran fast to the room only to open the door and see everyone sitting inside doing one thing or the other.
“Jason!” Mom got up from where she sat and called out my name the moment she saw me making everyone turn their gaze to the door where I stood to look at me.
“Did you get into a fight?” Mom asked the moment she saw my face clearly.
“What happened to your face?” Ethan asked, noticing the bruise on my cheeks.
“You look like you ran into a pole.” Max said laughing.
“You smell like alcohol, have you been drinking?” Grandma Nini, who was the closest to me, she asked.
“Oh my goodness, did you get into an accident?” Mom asked worriedly.
“Did you drink and drive?” Jade asked quietly.
They all asked me different questions without giving me space or time to reply to them.
“One person at a time!” Grandma Nini yelled loudly and they all kept quiet.
“Are you okay?” Ethan was the one to ask and I nodded in response.
“I’m sorry for earlier.” Jade said quietly and I smiled.
“It’s not your fault, I was just sad.” I said quietly.
“I’m sorry for running off like that.” I said apologetically to everyone who was there.
“You came back and that’s all that matters.” Mom said sitting down back.
“So tell me, what happened to you?” Max asked dragging me to sit down while Ethan closed the door behind me.
“I got into a fight.” I said as I sat down properly.
“You got into a fight at your age?” Mom said frowning.
“Why did you get into a fight?” Jade asked quietly.
“Who did you fight with?” Max asked.
“Did you win?” Grandma Nini asked and everybody laughed.
“I ran away.” I said, making them laugh again.
“Coward!” Max said, laughing loudly.
I changed the topic to something else because I didn’t want to tell them about my encounter with Mark. That would put them in fear and I don’t want them to worry. We have a lot on our plates for now.
“Jade, can I see you?” I asked getting up from where I sat and going outside the room. He nodded and followed behind me.
“I’m really sorry for earlier, please don’t fire me.” He said quickly and I laughed out loud.
“I’m not firing you, I would never do that, you’re a great friend Jade.” I said, making him smile.
“So what’s the problem?” He asked in a serious tone.
“I want to get bodyguards.” I said in a whisper.
“Why?” He asked curiously.
“It doesn’t matter, just get them for me.” I shrugged in response.
“Is anything going on?” He asked and I sighed heavily.
I don’t have any friends that I can share my burdens with. Max and I may have gotten closer but that doesn’t change the fact that he’s Eve’s best friend and not mine.
“Eve might be in danger.” I said after a while.
