Max.
He stood in front of me and I glared at him, not even bothered by his gaze on me.
“Gay boy?” I scoffed.
“Obviously, you must have mistaken me for someone who gives a damn about what you call me!” I yelled angrily.
“What’s going on here!” I heard someone shout and I knew it was Jason right away but I didn’t even pay him any attention and I continued what I was saying.
“I’ve met tons of idiots like you when I came out years ago so meeting another one won’t change a thing.” I said angrily.
“W-wha..” Eve’s father tried to talk but I cut him off immediately.
“Look, I don’t care if you’re homophobic or whatever. That’s your own problem and you can’t do shit to me.” I said angrily.
“Look here, you gay piece of shit!” He yelled angrily and I smirked.
“What’s going on here for God’s sake!” Jason yelled again and that’s when we all kept mute. And then he walked towards us and stood at the sidelines while Eve’s father and I were still facing each other.
“Jason right, I’m glad you’re here, this boy has been saying a lot of rude things to me since I got here.” He reported to Jason like a child making me laugh mockingly.
Jason was about to say something but I didn’t even give him a chance to talk before I continued from where I left off.
“Are you always this stupid or is today a special occasion?” I scoffed at Eve’s father and then I gave a short detail on what happened before Jason got here.
“You waltz in here to your daughter’s hospital bed only to ask if you’ll still be funded if she dies?”
“What kind of father says that?” I said pointing my fingers at him.
“You’re not concerned about her health or worried that she might not wake up!”
“All you care about is your stupid selves!” I said pointing at the wife who was still standing where she was in embarrassment and shame.
“It’s not like that.” She said crying and I rolled my eyes.
“You’re shedding crocodile tears hoping you’ll be more pitied and you’ll probably be given more money right?”
“Well, I hate to break it to you but you won’t be receiving a dim from them.”
“As long as I’m alive.” I rambled on and on until I was done before looking at the man in front of me and he looked so angry, I feared he might explode.
“I could hit you right now!” He said with gritted teeth which made me smirk.
“Nobody is hitting anybody.” Jason came in between us and pushed me a bit backwards.
“If you hit me, do you think I’ll do nothing?” I scoffed as I moved backwards.
“Well, thinking about it, I won’t hit you back but that would be animal abuse.” I said and smiled.
I’ve had it up to here with these people.
They don’t care for Eve even one bit. What kind of family is this anyways?
My family might not be the very best since It’s only my abuela who died a few months back that actually accepted me as a gay man but they’re not this worse.
Whenever Eve complains about them, I’ve always thought she was just being petty but seeing them myself actually makes me understand where she’s coming from all these while.
“Let’s just leave.” Eve’s mother said coming to drag him away but he shrugged her off standing his ground.
To be honest, I feared he was going to hit me but deep down, I know he’s just a coward and he can’t do anything to me. I felt more relaxed with Jason in between us anyways.
“Are you not coming with us?” He yelled loudly directing his question to Isaiah who hadn’t taken a step from the entrance where he stood the whole time.
“You can go, I’ll catch up with you.” Isaiah said, bowing his head.
“Let’s just go!” His wife said, dragging him away.
“Wipe your mouth, there’s a tiny bit of bullshit around your lips.” I yelled as he stormed away in anger.
“That was intense.” Jason said coming closer to me but I simply sighed heavily.
“I’m sorry, I got carried away.” I said to Jason’s mom.
“It’s fine, I was baffled by their outrageous question too.” She said smiling and I managed a small smile.
“Remind me to never cross you.” Jason joked and I laughed loudly.
“I’m sorry about my parents.” Isaiah said a little loudly so we could all hear.
“They can be a bit rude sometimes.” He mumbled and I shot him a look.
“Just shut up!” I said angrily and walked past him into the room.
“Max, calm down, he’s just a kid.” Jason said quietly.
“He’s not a kid, he’s been watching those two bully Eve for the past few years, he’s more like an accomplice in fact.” I said with a shrug.
“They’re his parents, what could he have possibly done?”
“Besides he’s a high schooler, if he talks back to them, how will he live?” Jason said supporting Isaiah and I frowned.
“Toxic people are like black holes, they suck out all the positive energy in your body.” I said and turned to face Isaiah who looked away probably in fear or shame. I couldn’t tell which of them it was.
“If it was an assault or a rape case and he simply watches and done nothing about it, he’s just as wicked as the offender.” I said.
“He’s guilty of doing nothing, don’t you know that doing nothing about someone who is getting bullied is a crime?” I hissed and Jason laughed.
“I’m sorry.” Isaiah suddenly started crying and I rolled my eyes.
I wasn’t even moved by his tears.
“I didn’t mean to. I thought it was normal but as I grew older, I knew it was wrong but there was nothing I could do.”
“I didn’t mean to hurt Eve this way.” He said crying.
“I didn’t mean to hurt Eve this way.” I said mockingly and scoffed, making him cry even harder.
“I know she hates me but I really didn’t mean to ignore her.”
“I’m so sorry.” He said sobbing loudly.
“You made him cry.” Jason said getting up from where he sat and pulling Isaiah into his embrace.
“It’s okay, I’m sure Eve understands, and she doesn’t hate you.” Jason assured him while I simply shrugged.
“So fickle!” I mumbled quietly.
“He’s not fickle, he’s just sad.” Jason said and I sighed.
“We all are.” I mumbled under my breath.
“Stop crying, it’s okay.” I said to Isaiah who nodded in response.
“Come here, come and see her.” I gestured to him to come closer which he did.
“It’s fine, I’m sorry for lashing out on you, after all, it’s not your fault for being born into the wrong family.”
“We don’t get to choose the life we want to live.” I said and he nodded.
I managed a small smile so the sad boy could lighten up a bit.
After all, I am the one who made him cry.
“Eve, I just wish you could wake up and see this.” I thought in my head as I watched Eve still in her deep slumber.
I miss her so much.
If she were awake, she would have probably said more than I did. After all, she has always said she has had enough of their bullshit.
Would she be proud of the stunt I pulled earlier?.
I bet she would have been really proud that I stood up for her.
