Jason..
“You have two meetings left sir.” Patricia said as she dropped another set of documents on my table.
“What is the finance department doing?” I asked in annoyance.
“Why hasn’t the CFO come to see me yet?” I asked again.
All I want is just to see Eve, I miss her so much but these people just won’t spare me a minute. I haven’t even had time to call her since morning. I badly want to ask about her health since she’s been acting all weird for a while.
“Sir, it’s…” Patricia was about to answer me when the door to my office bursted open with jade running inside like all hell has been let loose.
“Jade, I’m busy.” I said the moment I saw him but the look on his face said otherwise.
“Jason..” he said quietly and I knew something was wrong.
I told him to call me by my name when we’re both alone and not at work but if he’s calling me my name at work with that kind of expression that means something has to be wrong.
“What is…” I was going to ask what was going on but my ringing phone cut me off.
I picked it once I saw the caller ID.
“Jason.” Mom sounded scared on the phone.
“What’s going on?” I asked immediately.
“Eve is in the hospital.” And that was enough to get me to drop all what I was doing and run out of my office with jade following behind me.
“Call off all the meetings.” I yelled to Patricia who still stood there in shock.
I bet she didn’t think I would jump up and run out of the office without my coat.
“How did it happen?” I asked once we were inside the car and Jade was driving to the hospital.
“We have no idea!” Jade said.
“What do you mean you have no idea?” I yelled angrily.
“She fell down the stairs.” Jade said and I cussed under my breath.
We arrived at the hospital and without waiting for jade to park the car, I jumped out and ran inside the emergency ward.
I looked around for Eve or anyone at least but I couldn’t find her.
I ran to the nurse at the counter.
“I’m looking for a patient.” I said breathlessly.
“Name?” She asked.
“Eve coleman.” I answered and she checked the patient’s record.
“She has been transferred to the ward, third door on your left on the second floor.” The nurse said and I dashed towards the elevator immediately.
When I got to the second floor and turned to my left, I already saw Mom and Grandma Nini there pacing around.
“She’s not waking up.” Mom said with teary eyes the moment she saw me.
“Is she okay?” I asked with a small voice.
“The doctor said she’ll be fine.” Grandma Nini said to me.
I pulled them both into a hug and we stayed there for a while.
“She’ll be fine. She’s a fighter.” I said to them even though I was doubtful.
“Can I go and see her?” I asked and they nodded.
I heard the sound of running footsteps coming towards us and I knew it was Jade.
He got to where we all stood and was panting hard.
“She’s fine.” I said to Jade who nodded in response.
“Please call Max and Ethan.” I said to Jade.
I opened the door to the room and it reminded me of the day I told her I loved her and she fainted.
Our lives are really so complicated. At the start of our love, we’re already facing so many complications.
I brought the stool closer to the bed before sitting on it.
Her head was covered with bandages since she fell head backwards and bled out. Her hands were also covered in bandages and even a cast. Luckily, she was breathing fine on her own but nevertheless, she looked very peaceful.
“Eve..” I called out quietly.
“I’m really sorry that I wasn’t there to catch you when you fell.” I said quietly. I felt tears pool in my eyes and they began to drip down my face.
“I don’t want to ever lose you.” I said with a broken voice.
“I don’t know what I’ll ever do if I lose you, Eve.”
“You brought light into my dark life.”
“My life has always consisted of work and making my parents proud just so that my father’s death wouldn’t be in vain.”
“I’ve never for once thought that I would ever fall in love and not once did I feel the need to.”
“But you came along and ruined all balance, you tore down all my walls and made me confused.”
“I love you so much that it hurts to see you this way.” I said as I continued to sob.
“I know I never told you about my father.” I mumbled quietly.
“A few days after he died, all his responsibilities were passed to me, I never had the chance to mourn over him, I was furious when they asked me to get married if I wanted to keep the job.”
“First, they force the job on me and then they ask me to prove my worth for it.” I chuckled as tears continued to drip down my face.
“But now, I don’t even care because all that led me to meet you, and I’m glad I did.”
“Because you’ve brightened up my life in these past months.”
“I love you, Eve, and it breaks me to see you this way.”
“And I know it might be my fault that you’re in this state.”
“Ever since Max showed me that picture, I’ve been wondering if Alice is truly behind all of this but I want you to talk to me first, to tell me what you know and how you got it.”
“So please wake up.”
“Please…” I whispered quietly.
I said a soft knock on the door and I looked towards it.
It was Max standing right there with swollen eyes.
“The doctor wants to see you.” He said and I nodded and got up.
He walked towards the bed and sat on the stool where I was sitting. I sighed heavily and walked out of the room.
I followed the nurse who was standing outside the door and waiting to take me to the doctor’s office.
“That’s his office.” She gestured towards a big grey door on the right and I thanked her before going into the office.
The doctor looked up from the computer in front of him and to me who had just entered without knocking. It totally slipped my mind.
“Mr Coleman right?” He said and I nodded.
“You can have your seat.” He gestured to the chair in front of his desk and I sat down.
“Doctor, is my wife alright?” I asked and he smiled.
“Mr Coleman, I have good news and bad news.” He said and I furrowed my brows.
“What do you mean by that?” I was confused.
“Which one would you like to know first?” He asked, ignoring my question.
“The good news or the bad news?” He asked.
“The good news.” I mumbled and he smiled.
“Congratulations, your wife is pregnant.” He said stretching forth his hands which I shook.
“She’s pregnant?” I said feeling happy all of a sudden.
“Oh my God, that’s amazing.” I said feeling very very happy.
“And the bad news?” I asked as I suddenly remembered that there are two things at hand.
“The bad news is….”
