Chapter 75

Jason..
“Jade, you can take the van along with Patricia, I called someone to bring my car.” I said to jade who simply nodded, grabbed his bags and walked away with Patricia.
We were done with our lunch and ready to leave.
“Just do the right thing before it’s late.” Max said to Eve who shrugged in response.
I’m sure Max knows something and I’m going to find out what that thing is.
“Let’s go?” I said as I turned to face Eve with a smile on my face.
“Yeah.” She said and placed her smaller hands in mine. We walked hand in hand along with Max and Ethan until we got to the car park where Ethan parked his car.
“We’ll see tomorrow.” Ethan said to Eve as they shared a hug.
“Later dork.” I said to Max who smirked in response.
“Bye.” Eve said giving Max a hug but the hug was an awkward one.
We walked away to where my car was now parked and Eve started small talk along the way.
“How do you plan on getting those tickets?” She asked quietly.
“Oh, I have a friend that works in big hits, I’m sure he can get me a ticket.” I said smiling and she nodded.
“That’s amazing.” She mumbled.
We got to the car and I opened the door for her so she could enter the car. She entered the car and I closed it before going to the other side to get in as well.
I ignited the engine and we were off to our home.
The ride wasn’t quite silent but whenever I tried to bring up the issue, she would ask me another question.
She did that until we got home and I knew she wasn’t ready to tell me anything.
Did she not trust me?
When we got home, I parked the car and got out of the car then I walked inside with Eve walking behind me.
“You’re back?” Mom said, looking surprised to see us.
“Yes.” I shrugged and went upstairs to my room.
“What’s with him?” I heard mom ask Eve who simply shook her head in response.
Am I not trustworthy?
Is that why she doesn’t want me to know?
Ugh!
I took my bath and changed into something else.
I laid on the bed and stared at the ceiling. I wasn’t sure what I was thinking about but I was curious to know what was going on.
I picked up my phone and dialled Max’s number. If there’s anyone that would know about Eve, it would be her best friend.
“Hello, do you miss me already?” Max joked the moment he picked up the phone.
“Why will I miss you?” I played along.
“Then why are you calling me when we just parted a few minutes ago?” Max scoffed.
“Someone’s pained.” I teased and he threatened to hang up.
“Oh, come on.” I said laughing.
“I want to talk about Eve, what exactly is going on?” I asked in concern.
“It’s not my place to tell.” He sighed heavily.
“It might not be your place to tell but if Eve is in danger, I need to know.” I said quietly.
“Okay fine, just don’t tell her I told you anything.” Max said and I nodded even when I knew he couldn’t see me.
“Should we meet up?” I asked since he wasn’t saying anything again.
“Come to Ethan’s.” He said and hung up before I could even refute.
Does Ethan know too?
Am I the only one who’s not aware of anything?
I sighed deeply. Then I got up from the bed where I laid and went downstairs only to meet Eve and mom in the kitchen cooking.
“What’s cooking?” I asked, smiling like I wasn’t worrying about anything a few minutes ago.
“Food.” Mom said, making Eve laugh.
“Okay, I’m going to get something.” I said to them,
“Will you be in time for dinner?” Mom asked and I shook my head in response.
I kissed Eve’s cheeks before walking out of the kitchen.
“No kiss for mommy?” I heard mom say and I chuckled as I walked out of the house.
I went straight to the parking lot, took my second car and left the compound.
I drove straight to Ethan’s like I was being chased.
I was going to get to the root of the matter. I just want Eve to trust me.
I rang the doorbell and the door opened revealing Ethan.
“You’re just in time for dinner.” Ethan said opening the door a little wider so I could enter inside.
I closed the door behind me and followed Ethan to the dining room.
“I’m glad you’re here.” Ethan said and I raised my brows in confusion.
“You’re glad I’m here?” I repeated in a confused tone.
“Yeah, you’ll get a chance to eat Max’s meatballs and spaghetti.” Ethan said smiling.
“Why do I feel like that’s a bad thing?” I laughed awkwardly.
We got to the dining room and I immediately understood what Ethan was trying to say.
“What’s that?” I asked the moment I saw Max setting the table.
“Oh, that’s spaghetti sauce.” Max said, as he gestured for me to sit.
It was a small dining table for four so Ethan sat facing max while I sat down beside Ethan.
“So what’s this?” I asked, unsure of what was actually on the table.
“I made spaghetti and meatballs.” Max said happily.
“Aren’t you going to eat?” Max asked Ethan who smiled awkwardly and started eating.
“Are you not eating?” I asked Max who wasn’t eating.
“Oh, I’m on diet.” Max shrugged like it was nothing.
“You’re so dead.” I said laughing at Ethan whose face was scrunched up in disgust.
What was on the table wasn’t food. It was poison. It was all burnt and black, I felt bad for Ethan.
“Are you not going to eat?” Max asked me and I shook my head.
“I ate before coming.” I lied to save myself from this ugly looking meal.
I guess I’ll eat dinner at home after all.
“So tell me, what’s going on with Eve?” I asked changing the topic before Max tried to convince me to taste this food.
“This picture fell out of an envelope that she brought here.” Max stretched his hands to me so I could see the picture he was talking about.
It was a picture of Eve but her face was cancelled out with red ink.
“What does this mean?” I asked in confusion.
“I have no idea, she didn’t say where she got it.” Max sighed heavily.
“I think it’s that slut of yours.” Max suddenly raised his voice.
“Slut?” I mumbled.
“Yeah, Mary or whatever the fuck her name is.” Max huffed in annoyance.
“Alice?” I asked and he nodded.
“Yes, that girl.”
“She looked like a vicious one.” Max said accusingly.
“I don’t think Alice would do that kind of thing.” I wanted to say but I wasn’t even sure about that.
How could I be so sure about that?
“Thanks for telling me this.” I said getting up from where I sat.
“It’s fine, I just want the best for Eve.” Max said and I nodded in understanding.
“Enjoy your meal.” I said to Ethan who was still struggling with his food and he frowned.
I smirked at him before leaving their house and driving home.
