Chapter 51

Jason..
“If Eve isn’t with her best friend, then doesn’t that mean that she’s at home?” Jade said the moment we sat in the car after security had thrown us out of Max’s store.
“Home?” I asked, confused.
“Yes, her parent’s house.” Jade said.
“That’s brilliant Jade but will she be there?” I asked unsure.
“We’ll have to go there to check.” Jade said.
“You know their house, don’t you?” He asked and I nodded.
Inputting their address into the GPS, we drove to Eve’s family home.
I pressed the intercom and waited for an answer.
“Who is it?” I heard a voice ask.
“Jason.. Jason Coleman.” I said and I heard the door click meaning it was opened.
I removed my shoes and jade did the same then we entered into the living room with our socks.
“Mr Coleman, to what do we owe this pleasure?” Eve’s mom asked, greeting me.
“Oh, you can call me Jason.” I said quietly and she seemed surprised by my humility.
I wouldn’t blame her though. The last time I came here, I waltzed into the house with authority and my shoes on as I gave orders not caring that these people were older than me and more so, I needed their approval for the daughter.
“Can I sit down?” I asked and she seemed even more surprised than before.
“Yes, do sit.” She said, gesturing to the chair and jade and I sat down.
“I’ll get some tea boiling.” She said going to the kitchen to make some tea.
“They have a fine taste.” Jade said when she left and I rolled my eyes.
Typical Jade.
“Here you go.” She said dropping two mugs of tea on the table in front of us.
“Careful, it’s hot.” She warned as she sat down opposite us.
Jade took his tea and drank from it.
“It’s… Nice.” Jade said with a bleh face.
“Oh forgive me, I didn’t know you were not used to this kind of tea, if you give me a few more minutes, I’ll make something else.” She said, getting up at once but I stopped her.
“Oh no, not at all, it’s fine, jade is not a tea person.” I said taking my own mug and chugging down the entire liquid even though it was really hot and tasted horrible.
“Noble cause.” I heard Jade whisper.
“Wanna drink mine too?” He teased and if eyes could kill, he would be six feets underground.
“Oh my, wasn’t that hot?” She asked, shocked.
“Not at all.” I lied through my teeth.
“Indeed.” I heard Jade said and I gave him a little nudge, making him wince.
“So Mr Coleman..” she said.
“Jason.” I corrected.
“Jason, is anything the matter?” She asked quietly.
“Uhmmm, what about Mr Jameson?” I asked, changing the topic.
“Oh, thanks to you, he’s getting better gigs at work.” She beamed in excitement.
“Thanks to me?” I asked, confused.
“Everybody knows that Eve is your wife so they’ve all been bringing their cars to him.” She explained and I almost scoffed.
“So is anything the problem?, Why didn’t Eve come with you?” She asked and then I knew.
Eve isn’t here.
Then where is she?
“Oh, Eve’s busy with a few things at home, I just wanted to see you.” I said lying. If Eve wasn’t here, then It’s best I leave but I was going to apologise for my rude behaviour from before.
“I wanted to apologise for the way I behaved towards you before.” I said and she looked even more shocked.
I got up from my seat and bowed my head.
“I’m sorry.” I said quietly.
“You don’t need to apologise.” She said immediately.
“No, it was wrong for me to do such a thing and I’m sorry I realised it too late, I know I didn’t come in the best way but I love Eve and I’ll protect her.” I said as I sat down back and she smiled at me with teary eyes.
Now that I look at her, she looked somewhat like Eve, they had the same smile. I wonder if Eve got along with her mother.
“Can I… Give you a hug?” I asked after a long pause.
“Sure..” she said and I got up and walked towards her before giving her a long warm hug.
I wanted to cry but that would only give away what I was currently feeling right now.
“Thankyou.” I said the moment we disengaged.
“Will you stay for dinner?” She asked.
“No, next time, I’ll come with Eve next time.” I assured, as I got up and looked at Jade who seemed to be..
Crying?
“Why are you crying?” I asked, confused.
“That was one lovely scene.” He said, making us laugh as we left the house.
“She makes one bad tea.” Jade joked the moment we got into the car, making me laugh.
“You’ll find her, don’t worry, just keep trying.” Jade assured me as he drove me back home.
“See you tomorrow, my friend.” He said the moment we got to my house.
“See you later, jade.” I said smiling as I entered the house. But my smile faded the moment I remembered that I didn’t bring Eve home with me.
“Any luck finding her?” Mom asked the moment she saw me and I shook my head.
“Don’t worry, you’ll find her.” She said but I wasn’t feeling that way.
Will I truly find her?
We disengaged from the hug and she went to her room leaving me in the dark hallway.
It was already late which was why I didn’t see grandma Nini. I’m guessing she was already asleep.
I went to the bar in the house and opened the wine cabinet, taking two bottles of vodka and a wine cup.
I took it to my room and sat on the floor. I opened it and poured myself a glass.
I drank it but it wasn’t hitting me yet. I felt tears fill my eyes.
Can’t I just see her?
Just this once.
I just want to explain all this.
To tell her that this is all a big misunderstanding.
I drank another glass but it still wasn’t working. It wasn’t making me forget the amount of pain that I felt in my heart. I dropped the cup and drank directly from the bottle.
Just this one time.
I wasn’t one to believe in a supreme being but for Eve, I’m willing to believe in anything.
God… Please.. give me a chance…
That’s all I ask.
