Chapter 49

Jason..
Beep! Beep! Beep!
I groaned loudly, the loud blaring sound of the alarm clock ringing in my ears made me want to suffocate myself.
I popped my head out of the blanket I was covered with and squinted my eyes from the bright sunlight as I looked to my side where my phone was, the alarm was getting more annoying by the second.
When did I set an alarm?, I thought as I switched it up and got up from the floor where I laid.
I slept off on the floor yesterday in Eve’s room and I’m guessing Mom put a blanket over me so I wouldn’t freeze to death especially with the opened windows.
My back ached from where I laid all night but more than a back ache, my heart was aching more.
I left the room and went to mine.
Taking a look at myself in the mirror, I could only laugh at how I looked.
I have never for once forgotten to shave or take a late night bath but when one is in despair, one can only think of the cause, all other things long forgotten.
I took a bath and shaved my growing beard before changing into something casual and appropriate.
I went downstairs and met Mom and Grandma Nini at the dinning.
“Good morning.” I managed to say.
“Morning.” Mom replied with a sad smile while Grandma Nini simply nodded her head in acknowledgement.
I joined them at the table and the meal was served.
I couldn’t even tell what was served because I was barely paying attention, I was simply poking my food with my fork as I thought about Eve.
The saying – you’ll never know the worth of one until you lose them was true indeed.
Before, sharing a table with Eve irked me because I was blinded by stupidity. I thought she was doing this for the money so I treated her badly. It wasn’t my fault anyways because I made her do it for the money, I took her weakness and used it as my strength.
“Stop moping and go get your girl.” I heard Grandma Nini say and I raised my brows.
“Ugh?” I mumbled unsure of what she truly said.
“If you see down there, moping in regrets, do you think she’ll just waltz in here and say she’s ready to come back?” Grandma Nini snapped.
“You’ll have to persuade her, beg her, make her see reasons why she should come home, tell her you love her.” Grandma Nini said.
“You love her, don’t you?” Mom asked me and I nodded.
“Don’t nod your head boy, answer the question.” Grandma Nini said snappily.
“I love her!” I said loudly, making them both chuckle.
“Good.” Grandma Nini said, smiling at me.
Were they just teasing me?
“Are you seriously still sitting there?” Grandma Nini asked, noticing I wasn’t getting up from my seat.
“Get going already.” She hissed.
“Oh my goodness, Mia, what are we going to do with him?” She asked Mom and they both laughed at me.
I quickly got up from my chair and went to the parking lot to get my car.
I checked my pocket for my keys but I couldn’t find them.
“Looking for this?” I heard a voice say and I turned to face whomever it was.
“Jade?” I said surprised.
“Let’s go get your girl.” Jade said jokingly.
“Yeah.” I nodded and opened the door to the front seat and got in.
Jade got into the driver’s seat and ignited the engine and drove off.
“Why aren’t you sitting in the back seat?” He asked.
“Can I.. be your friend today?” I stuttered.
“Friend?” Jade asked with furrowed brows.
“I don’t have many friends.” I said slowly.
“That’s because of your stuck-up personality, you know.”
“You never smile at anyone, you just frown your face and talk to everyone in monotones like a stuck up bitch.” Jade said insultingly.
I felt offended but he was right after all.
“But we’re friends already.” He said at the end probably to make me feel better.
I managed to smile but it didn’t reach my eyes.
I was nervous about where we were going.
Will she be there?
Will she even let me talk?
Give me a chance to explain?
“Stop thinking about it, it would all be fine.” Jade said as if he read through me.
“What do I do?” I asked unsure of how to start.
“Just tell her the truth, be confident, don’t stutter and let her yell at you.” Jade said and I tilted my head in confusion.
“Yell at me?” I asked and he nodded as he drove.
“You can’t really understand women, you see..”
“One minute, they’re happy, the next, they’re sad, but yelling is their consistency, they yell out their anger until they feel good so just let her yell at you.” Jade explained, making me nod.
“Let her yell at you.” I mumbled repeating what he said so it would sink in my head.
We soon arrived at Max’s store and Jade parked the car and switched off the engine.
We both got out and walked towards the building, opening the door. I heard everybody in the hallway gasp, whether in awe or surprise, I couldn’t tell.
“Is Max in?” I asked the receptionist who nodded, smiling sheepishly.
I turned to go to Max’s office but, speaking of the devil, he was already coming out of the office.
He seemed to be making a call but the moment he saw me, the smile on his face fell and he gave me the coldest look I’ve ever seen and I felt myself shudder.
“I’ll call you back Eve.” I heard him say before hanging up and standing before me.
“Eve?” I thought.
If he was on the phone with Eve, then that means that Eve isn’t here.
Then where is she?
“I’m going to ask you to leave.” Max said coldly.
“Leave? We just got here.” I heard Jade say but I raised my hands to shush him up.
“Max, please let me…” I was still talking but he cut me off immediately.
“Max?” He scoffed.
“I’m not your friend.” He snapped, making people turn their heads to face us.
“Mr..” I paused. I don’t even know his surname.
“I thought so.” He smirked.
Did he do that on purpose?
“I trust you know where the exit is.” He said, turning and walking back to his office.
