Chapter 17

Book:The Virgin Wife Published:2025-3-31

Alice.
The sun was up in the sky and the weather was cool. A perfect day to go out but what happened two days ago was still bugging me and I couldn’t help but worry.
My older brother Mark had showed up to my house unannounced. He was always causing trouble for my parents but the last straw that led my family to disown him was what happened some time ago and I never saw him there. It’s been a year and now he’s back and he wants me to help him.
And most of all, he knows about my secret visit to those thugs and my intention to hurt Jason’s wife.
Flashback
I saw the silhouette of a man in my house and when he got closer I knew who he was. Someone familiar. Someone I didn’t expect to see. My brother.
“What are you doing here?” I asked in fear.
“I thought you’ll be glad to see me.” He smirked.
“And why the hell would I be glad to see you? I thought you left the country.” I said quietly.
“You see that’s the problem, you always think.” He smiled and I scoffed.
“Just tell me what you want and get going.” I frowned.
“You’re not even worried that I just broke into your house? You didn’t even ask how I got in..” He hissed.
“How did you get in?” I asked once it hit me.
“Well, after watching you for a few days, it was easy to know your passcode.” He smiled in a way that made my stomach churn and my skin crawl.
“I even followed you on your secret rendezvous, so your little obsession is married now?” He scoffed and I knew he was thinking about Jason. He never really liked Jason anyways especially when he knew Jason and I were just fuck buddies.
Despite the fact my brother wasn’t a good person, he was a good brother to me and that’s why I knew he wouldn’t harm me although he’s been following me about and it was a bit creepy but I couldn’t say if he wouldn’t hurt other people.
“My secret rendezvous?” I mumbled suddenly remembering what he said moments ago.
“It’s just clicking?”
“I never knew you had it in you sister, I thought I was the black sheep but I guess I’m a bit better than you. It’s always the quiet ones.” He said, whispering the last words.
“What do you want?” I snapped, not wanting him to affect me further.
“I just want some money and I’ll let you go.” He smirked.
“I don’t have any.” I snapped and he laughed.
“I don’t think so, you just sent a hundred thousand dollars to some thugs to warn a girl who didn’t do anything wrong and you can’t lend your older brother some money?” He raised his brows and despite the fact that we were still standing in the dark I could see him.
“That’s different.” I said quietly and he started laughing again.
“Yeah, it’s different, you’re giving out free money when I could do the job for you.” He smiled.
“What?” I said with wide eyes.
“I could do a much better job compared to those thugs you hired and besides I know those thugs better than you, I’ve worked with the Voldemort guy before.” He smiled before walking towards me and putting his hands on my shoulder.
“Give me a chance or I’ll just go to your little boyfriend and tell him you want to hurt his wife.” He laughed.
“I could get out completely out of your way and you wouldn’t have to lift a finger.”
“Send the same amount of money to the account number written on that paper.” He said as he turned and pointed at the sheet of paper on the little wooden table in the centre of my living room.
“That table is tacky for a rich girl by the way.” He smirked before he turned and started to walk away.
“By the way…” He paused.
“If I don’t see that money in twenty four hours, I can’t guarantee what I’ll do to your precious obsession.” He said sternly before walking out of the house completely.
“I got that table at an auction.” I sulked as I thought about what he said about the table but at the same time I was worried because now my brother, he wasn’t one to make empty threats.
And he was really dangerous but I had no money at all for now so I had no idea on how I was going to send him any money.
Flashback ends.
I wasn’t going to take into Mark’s threat at first until he sent me a text yesterday- ‘if you think I’m joking then this better tell you that I’m not.
A picture was attached to the text message and I could recognize that place anywhere because I’ve always wanted to go there but Jason didn’t ever take me to his house because in his words ‘we only benefit from each other, no strings attached.’
So now, I had to go and look for the money to send to Mark. Don’t get me wrong, I received a lot of allowance from my parents every week but I’ve exhausted it all for now.
I was a bit worried about Jason so I decided to call him to be sure that my brother hadn’t said anything weird to him.
So I picked up my phone and dialled his number which he picked up after the third ring.
“What?” He said immediately he picked up and I frowned. He never ever greets me pleasantly.
“Good day to you too.” I responded.
“What do you want, Alice? I told you I’ll call you when I need you.” He groaned and I could swear that it was the sexiest groan ever.
“Can we hang out?” I asked, fumbling with the tip of my shirt.
“Hang out?” He asked in confusion.
“By hang out, you mean a date?” He asked and I hummed.
“Use the words, Alice.” He responded coldly.
“Yes, let’s go on a date.” I said confidently now.
“No.” He said almost immediately.
“Why?” I asked but I could hear a voice in the background.
“Jason, I hope you’re getting dressed for the date I arranged. You can’t keep Eve waiting.” Someone shouted and I could tell that it was his mother in the background because we had met countless times and I knew her voice.
“Alice, let’s talk later.” Jason said and before I could say something he hung up and I felt myself fuming in anger.
That Eve girl was busy having fun with my man and here I am barely able to hold a full conversation with him.
I quickly texted Mark back on the number he used to text me.
“Deal, I’ll send you the money by night time.” I texted him and managed to get dressed.
I left my clothes scattered everywhere in my room and left the house. Taking my car to my parents house.
The maids greeted me the moments they saw me but I spared them no glance.
“Madam Alice, welcome.” The head maid said as soon as she saw me and I ignored her.
I’ve known her since I was a little girl but I didn’t care about how I treated her because my parents taught me not to respect those below me.
I sat down on the couch and put my legs on the couch without removing my shoes but she simply looked at me saying nothing because that would simply incur my wrath.
Soon my mother entered with a frown as she looked at me laying on the couch with my shoes on.
“Remove that shoe young lady, that couch cost a million dollars and it was made by Gerald, the late furniture manufacturer.” My mother snapped and I scoffed before sitting properly.
“Mom, I need some money.” I said immediately.
“Didn’t your father just send you some allowance?” She asked.
“I ran out of it, don’t ask me questions, just send it.” I frowned.
“Can’t you ask your boyfriend?” She asked and I raised my brows.
“Boyfriend?” I asked.
“Yes, Stella told me you had a boyfriend.” She said and I made a mental note to smack Stella when I saw her.
“I don’t have a boyfriend, Stella is just being stupid, will you send me some money or should I go and meet daddy?” I snapped and she looked at me with an unreadable look before looking away.
“Go and meet your father then.” She shrugged and walked away leaving me fuming in anger.
I got up from the couch and walked towards my dad’s office. I knocked on the door twice before I was asked to come in. And there he was standing looking like he was bothered by something.
“Daddy.” I said in a baby voice and went to hug him.
“My sweet pea.” Dad said smiling as we disengaged from the hug and I went to sit on the chair just opposite his swivel chair that he was now seated on but I could tell something was bothering him.
“Is anything the matter?” I asked, noticing the frown on his face.
“That rascal is back.” Dad said and I needed no soothsayer to tell me who he was talking about.
“After embezzling from the company, he still has the guts to show up in New York.” He scoffed in anger.
“He’s back?” I pretended not to know.
“How did you find out?” I asked, still pretending.
“My friend called and said his son saw him at a bar.” Dad said and I couldn’t help but sigh in relief. For a moment there, I was scared that he found out that I met up with mark.
I was warned to never meet up with Mark as he was a bad influence and could lead me astray as said by my father.
“Is there something you need? Did you run out of allowance?” Dad asked and I nodded.
“I’ll wire you some money.” He said picking up his phone and sending me the money immediately.
I smiled as soon as I received the alert.
We talked about other father-daughter stuff before I decided to call it a day and go back home.
“You can move back home, you know.” Mom said once she saw me coming out of dad’s office and I scoffed and looked away.
“I don’t want to.” I said coldly and left the house. As soon as I was out, I sent the money to the account number that I had saved on my phone.
“You better do a good job.” I texted Mark once the money was successfully sent.
I took my car to a bar and I sat down at the counter.
“Pour me a shot.” I said to the bartender who did as he was told. I downed that one and asked him to pour me another.
“What’s a beautiful lady like you doing here alone?” A voice said and I turned to face the said person that was talking.
“None of your business.” I sassed.
“Feisty! My style.” He smiled and winked while I looked away.
“Pour me another shot.” I said to the bartender who simply nodded and did as he was told.
“You know, we could leave this place and go and have fun elsewhere.” He said in a suggestive tone and I ignored him once again until he took my shot and drank it.
“I’ll be your knight in shiny armour.” He said grinning and I was impressed.
“You just want to get into my pants.” I smirked.
“If you want something other than that, we can always make it work.” He said smiling.
“My mom says you’ll never find a responsible man at a bar.” I joked and he laughed.
“You have a great sense of humour.” He said and I smiled.
“I’ll take you up on that offer, let’s get out of here.” I said winking.
“As you wish my lady.” He said and I nodded.
I watched him pay for my drink and I couldn’t help but smile. It’s been a while since I had met a good person at a bar and it felt good to be treated well for once.
Yes, what I needed right now was a distraction.
