Chapter 16

Book:The Virgin Wife Published:2025-3-31

Jason’s POV.
Few hours ago.
I returned to the hotel suite and did my victory dance as I walked inside. I was still dancing when I heard someone clear their throat. Turns out Eve was still awake and she sat down looking at me with me with wide eyes. I couldn’t help but blush in embarrassment, no one had ever seen me this way and I always made sure to never show anyone my easy going side but here she was staring at me as if she could read into my soul.
“Why are you on the couch?” I snapped as soon as I regained my composure. We exchanged a few words and in the blink of an eye, she was inside the room.
I couldn’t help but wonder, was the gift too small? Did she want something else? Why did she reject the first gift I got for her and why am I bothered?
I went into my room and received a text from my mom.
“You didn’t even call to ask where I am, aren’t you worried about your mother?” The text read and I couldn’t help but smirk. I thought she was ready to disown me. But before I could reply, I received another text message that read ‘if you don’t return home with your wife tomorrow, I’m leaving the country.’
I knew she wouldn’t leave the country but my mother wasn’t someone to mess with so I sent her a text agreeing to return home with Eve.
The next day.
I had a few hotel workers pack my stuff into my car while I asked Clinton to oversee them. I saw Eve’s door open and I smiled and went to meet her but after a few words of exchange, she snapped at me and I left her to pack her bags. I had no idea she knew nothing about the file and I felt sorry but I wasn’t going to apologise. I have never apologised to anyone before and this would not be my first. Especially not to Eve.
As I was about to ignite the engine and drive off, I remembered the box I asked the hotel worker to throw away and I quickly dashed back inside taking the long stairs back to my room. Luckily, I was in time to see Eve collecting the small box from the worker and putting it into her bag.
“I thought she said she didn’t want to.” I smirked as I walked back out and took the stairs again to avoid her. I don’t know why I was avoiding her anyways but it just felt right.
“Go and get Eve’s family, let’s have dinner together.” I received another text from my mom and this time I groaned.
“Why is she making this complicated for me?” I groaned. But I can’t say no to my mom so I drove straight to the new house I had gotten for her family after our marriage. I didn’t let Eve know about all this, but since I forced her to marry me, I felt obligated to take care of her family in her place.
As soon as I got to their apartment complex, I got down from my car and took the elevator to apartment 112 which is theirs.
Knock knock knock.
A younger boy who looked a little bit like Eve opened the door and that’s when I realised that I didn’t know anything about Eve, the last time I had a conversation with her father and he talked as if Eve was his only daughter but turns out she had other siblings too.
“And who are you?” The brown skinned boy asked with a frown.
“I’m here to see your father.” I scoffed.
He was about to say something when his mother showed up at the door to question him.
“Isaiah, who’s at the door?” His mother asked as she came towards where we both stood shooting daggers with our eyes to each other.
“Oh Mr Coleman, do come in, you’re just in time for a late lunch.” She said smiling as she pushed the door a little wider for me to enter. I looked at Isaiah with a look of triumph before smirking and entering the house.
“You didn’t come with Eve.” She said sadly.
“Uhmm, I’ll just cut to the chase, I need you and your husband to come with me.” I dropped the bomb and she looked at me with wide eyes.
“Is Eve in trouble?” She asked.
“No, my mother requested to have dinner with you both tonight and it’s running late so can we go?” I asked coldly and Isaiah glared at me.
I knew I was being rude but I’ve never asked for something politely before so I huffed and looked away.
“Sure, we’ll love to.” She said going inside to call her husband I suppose.
I smirked.
“Of course, you’ll love to.” I thought but I could feel the piercing eyes of Isaiah on my back.
“I don’t like you.” He said when he noticed his mother was no longer in the living room.
“I don’t need you to.” I sassed.
“I wonder why my sister married you.” He frowned and I was about to reply to him but his mother and father showed up sooner than expected and I noticed they were wearing a change of clothes.
“Shall we?” I asked and they nodded.
We took the elevator downstairs where Clinton was waiting in another car for them.
“He’ll drive you to my home.” I gestured to Clinton who was in the other car and they nodded and got into the other car which Clinton drove off as soon as they were inside.
I got into my car and drove behind them.
We soon arrived at my estate and then my house.
We got down from the car and I led them inside while the house workers greeted us as soon as they saw us. I took them straight to the dinning where they exchanged pleasantries with my mom who received them happily.
We sat down and were ready to eat and I looked at Eve who squirmed in her seat. She looked uncomfortable and I couldn’t care less.
No, I wasn’t going to care about her. She wasn’t my priority and she won’t ever be.
“I hope Jason has been treating you well compared to last time.” Grandma Nini said and I raised my brows.
“Yes..” Eve smiled but I could tell it was fake.
Just what was making her uncomfortable exactly?
“Eve, don’t you like fish?” My mom asked as she noticed Eve wasn’t eating the fish on the table.
“Eve doesn’t really eat fish.” Her mother spoke up for her and I scoffed.
“Sorry my dear, I had no idea.” My mother apologised and I rolled my eyes.
“Such a picky eater.” I mumbled loud enough for everyone to hear and I scoffed.
“I’m allergic to fish, that’s all.” Eve mumbled and I felt bad. She wasn’t a picky eater, she had an allergy.
“Oh my, shouldn’t we remove any fish food from the table?” Grandma Nini gestured to the maids to remove the fish dishes on the table.
“You’re allergic?” Her mother asked and I raised my brows.
What kind of mother doesn’t know her own daughter’s allergy?
“Yes..” Eve said quietly.
“I didn’t know, I thought you just didn’t like to eat it because of the smell.” Her mother said apologetically and I couldn’t help but wonder how many nights Eve had starved because she refused to eat fish dishes when they were poor.
Her father only kept his gaze on her a bit and continued eating his food.
“Can we eat in silence?” I noticed that the mood at the table wasn’t beginning to feel a bit off.
“Sorry.” Her mother said and I hummed while eating my food.
Eve just ate a bit before dropping her spoon.
“Don’t waste any food.” I said to her and she sighed heavily and tried to continue eating her food but I simply looked away knowing no one heard what I said to her.
“I know we started off on the wrong foot and my son here didn’t inform me fast about his marriage to your daughter but I wanted to make it up to Eve because she’s a lovely girl and that’s why I invited you both here today.” My mother said and then despite my plea for us to eat in silence, she continued talking about other things with Eve’s mother and Grandma Nini while Eve stayed quiet and her father looked at her from time to time.
“Have you guys copulated?” My mother asked and I choked on the water I was drinking.
“What?” I asked.
“Have you had sex yet?” My mother asked again and I frowned.
“Not yet.” I heard Eve say quietly and I furrowed my brows.
“Not yet?” I thought.
Is she delusional?
Does she think I’ll have sex with her someday or does she think life is a fanfiction and I’ll fall for her one day?
“We won’t.” I said and the adults looked horrified.
“You won’t?” My mother repeated.
“We won’t.” I said in affirmation.
“Did Eve agree to that?” Grandma Nini asked and I shot her a look.
“She doesn’t need to.” I said and got up walking away from the dinning.
“I need to clear my head.” I said walking away.
“When will I see my grandchildren then?” I heard my mother shout after me but I didn’t even turn back to listen because I didn’t want to.
I went to the back yard and sat down by the outdoor pool.
I pulled my shoes and kept my legs in the water. If the board didn’t force me to get married, I wouldn’t have had to marry Eve in the first place.
I heard footsteps coming closer and I looked up to see my mother staring at me.
“Jason!” She yelled loudly, almost making me jump into the water out of fright.
“What was that back there?” She asked and I shrugged not wanting to answer her.
“You should be satisfied with the daughter in-law you got, don’t you think you’re asking for too much if you ask for grandchildren too?” I asked when I noticed her still standing there in anger.
“So you don’t want kids?” She asked and I snorted.
“Of Course I want kids, but not Eve.” I thought. Although biracial children don’t sound half bad, it wasn’t because of Eve’s colour that I was refusing to sleep with her. No! I’m no racist.
Eve just isn’t the one for me. This marriage is a marriage of convenience but I couldn’t tell my mother that.
“I want kids, but not now.” I said to cool her down seeing that she was still fuming.
“That better be the case.” She huffed and sat down beside me.
“Jason, I notice you and your wife are a bit distant and I understand how you feel.”
“You rushed into marriage and you don’t know how it works, you feel overwhelmed but I know the trick to help you.” My mom said and I looked at her with confusion.
“I’m not overwhelmed…” I wanted to say something but she cut me off.
“There’ll be a party at the office next month.” My mother said,
“A party?” I asked.
“Yes, since you didn’t let us attend your wedding, the board of directors came up with this party to commemorate your wedding, maybe by then, you guys won’t feel rushed and you’ll have a great wedding night.” My mother said, smiling and winking at me.
I simply shrugged and looked away. I already knew about the party since my secretary told me but my mother wants it to seem like a surprise so I didn’t want to ruin it for her.
“Treat Eve well, I asked Clinton to clear your schedule so tomorrow, you can go out with Eve, her parents already left.” My mother said, getting up and leaving me at the pool.
Just why is she interfering in my life!
