On the phone, Caroline was still crying, but Johnny was already in so much pain he couldn’t even straighten his back. He felt as if his heart had been ripped out, tortured slice by slice. The irony was that he was completely helpless.
After Tilda’s father had driven some distance, Tilda, who had been sobbing, finally dared to cry out loud.
“Dad… I already gave him so much trust, I thought he wouldn’t betray me!”
Her father looked at his daughter with concern, and during a red light, reached out to pat her shoulder. “Tilda, I’ve lived most of my life and still can’t clearly see what kind of person someone is, so how could you? As long as you were happy together, even if it’s over now, it wasn’t for nothing! When you break up, don’t just think about his bad sides. That only tortures yourself.”
Tilda nodded. “I’m sorry, Dad, for disappointing you.”
Thinking about it now, she felt she shouldn’t have called her father so hastily. After all, he was getting older and had some cardiovascular issues that didn’t need this kind of stress. But at that moment, Tilda’s mind was filled only with breaking up, not giving Johnny any way out. And not giving herself a way out either. She was probably afraid that she might soften and might choose to believe him again.
“Silly child, you were born to receive all the love from your mother and me. It’s only natural that we protect you. I’m not disappointed. My daughter is a good girl. You can find another boyfriend slowly, it’s fine!”
Tilda nodded, wiping her tears with a tissue. She had only been with Johnny for a month or so. Getting over him should be easy.
A month…
Tilda suddenly froze. She remembered that she and Johnny hadn’t taken any precautions. She hoped she wasn’t pregnant! Tilda secretly glanced at her father, thinking she should find time tomorrow to go to the hospital for a check, instead of anxiously waiting for her period to come.
Jake and Floyd were thrilled to visit the amusement park. Though Jake typically acted like an adult, he was still just a child.
To accompany the children today, Ulric didn’t dress in a formal suit but wore casual black clothing. Without his businesslike appearance, his youthful side emerged, making Ulric, who led the two children, look more like an older brother than a father.
“Mommy! I want to ride the carousel! Over there!” Floyd excitedly pointed ahead, running to Rosalind and tugging at her pants.
Rosalind bent down to pick her up. “Okay, I’ll go with you.”
Just as she was about to leave, she heard Ulric ask Jake in a low voice, “Do you want to go play with your sister?”
“No.”
“Come on, let’s play together.”
Jake frowned. “Dad, I don’t want to.”
“Yes, you do.”
“Then why did you ask me?”
Ulric grinned, tapping his small head. “That’s basic courtesy.”
Looking up, he saw Rosalind had already walked away carrying Floyd. Ulric’s eyes darkened as he quickly caught up.
Actually, Rosalind was terrified of these spinning amusement rides because they made her dizzy. But since her daughter wanted to play, she couldn’t refuse.
Getting on the carousel with Floyd, Rosalind felt unsteady before they had even completed three rotations, staggering back and forth, unable to find her balance.
She instinctively reached out to grab something, but unfortunately, the carousel poles were also moving up and down.
Just when Rosalind thought she was certainly going to fall, she felt a pair of large hands firmly grasp her waist from behind.
In her ear came Ulric’s deep voice. “Stop! Let her get off.”
