As Diana approached the central field, a round of applause filled the air. The kids successfully figured out the grandwar master who killed the officer and he is been nabbed and taken away. The blood stains on his gold tinted hair confirmed it. Although, further investigation was going to be made from the logical analysis and clues the two little rascals already provided. They were yet to find out why he had to kill a fellow officer, “He should know better as a grandwar master that killing an officer warrants death!”
Every officer applauded the kids even as they wondered who taught them their superb deduction skills.
“Who are these kids? …. General Laura’s kids? I thought as much, their mum is a four star general and probably taught them…” Some officers speculated on that.
It was so surprising how littles kids were able to make such wonderful deductions that not even a base general could make.
Derrick was still feeling the wonder when he caught sight of General Laura approaching.
“Com’on kids… Your mum is here!” He turned to kids, squatted and informed them gently. Something about looking deep into their eyes reminded him of his childhood days. Why is this feeling persisting?!
“Are you okay?” Jones discerned he was suppressing a thought and he voiced out his concern.
“Mummy will yell at us. We need to get going!” James tugged at John in apprehension and fear kind of gripping him. Even though they were quarrelling with their mother, it won’t stop her from disciplining them.
Meantime, the officers around were already retreating back to their wards and the corpse being taken away for an extensive autopsy report by some medical officers.
“John! James! -” Diana called out to her kids when she saw them, someone was squatting facing the two of them. Diana could only see his back, she hoped that it was not the five star general. She didn’t wanted to cross part with him so soon after what had transpired in the grandwar meetings room, infact, all that had transpired today.
As Diana got closer, The man stood up and turned to face Diana. He stared at her in a serious look.
Diana felt her heartbeat rising slowly, and then fastly like she was facing a tiger in a duel.
The two boys on the other hand, held their ears and started running back to the villa. That was the only way they could avoid their mum’s disciplinary measure, if they were to.
“You taught them the deduction skills?” Derrick asked Diana in a cold voice immediately the kids left. With each word dropping, he took a step closer to her.
“No, infact, I ensured I keep them away from my military works…” Diana gathered the courage and responded, cold sweets were already breaking out. Her voice was firm but her whole body was not. Why does she feel this way each time she sees him?
“Wow. Genius kids I must say!” Derrick complimented, his breathing causing a burn to Diana. His smell was appealing to Diana.
“I …. I need to get going now!” Diana stammered and turned to leave, not being able to bear the whole emotions surging inside of her.
“Don’t think of dodging me this time around….” Derrick’s voice was laced with threat as if he would do something if she leaves, it caused her to stop by her footsteps.
Diana heaved a sigh and turned to him, “Excuse me? We need to be professional here. Tomorrow I’ll resume my duty. There is no need for you to invade into my life! Get that!?” Her voice was barely serious. Derrick could see through the armour she was trying to put on. Behind the armour was a scared to the guts lady.
Derrick chuckled in response, “Of course we need to be professional… But, how do you want me to believe the fact that it’s a coincidence your kids have a striking resemblance to me? Derrick added, dropping the bombshell and searching her face, slowly as if he meant to memorize it.
Diana felt the words resounding in her head as they sunk in, “How can she really explain that?”
In a jiffy, she snapped out of her thoughts,
“We have only met twice today, this making it thrice. Doesn’t that ring a bell?” She questioned,
“Now, excuse me. I need to recollect myself for tomorrow.” Diana added and started walking away, at some point she missed her footsteps due to Derrick’s burning gaze on her. It felt like a million crowd was watching her catwalk.
Derrick watched her until she was out of sight.
Few minutes ago, the two little rascals arrived at the villa to meet their sister, immediately she saw them and hugged them, she brought out the box and narrated the ordeal with Anamika.
The two boys gave themselves a stare, a shocking surprising stare, “Ancient military contract?” They both said in unison as they gawked at the box, connecting with the dots, Anamika was up to something!
“What’s that?” Chioma asked, she didn’t knew what it was.
“Com’on… Let’s go inside. We will explain to you later and also, we need to keep this within us, alone!” John suggested what each of his siblings was already entertaining.
“Yea!” James and Chioma unanimously responded as they hopped into the mansion.
John hid the box inside of his dress with his hands folded inside.
Soon, Diana arrived and went to check up on them, when she got to their room, she was relieved fo find them already fast asleep.
She walked over to their three and rubbed their hairs, afterwards she kissed them on the forehead before she turned of the lamp and left the bedroom to hers.
Immediately she left, John opened his right eye. Clearly they had faked their sleep.
In a blink of an eye. All three of them were awake.
“Time to get to work!” John said and walked over to his desk and opened his laptop. His two siblings sat close to him as he resumed duty.
Now, they were going to find out information about Anamika and why she brought in a military contract to the base.
When Derrick finally retired back to the base, he got to his bedroom to find Anamika waiting for her on the bed, she was however fast asleep.
Eddy had already been taken to the military rehab unit for extensive care.
“Why is this soul chew gumming herself to me? Didn’t I made it clear to her at hotel I don’t want to touch her?” Derrick vented. He then removed his jacket and trousers before resting on the couch. He can’t afford to sleep on same bed with her, least he falls for the temptations. She was semi-nakedly dressed and exposing her body enough that an ordinary man that sees her would just climb on top of her and do the expected.
Few minutes after Derrick fell asleep, Anamika woke up.
