Clark’s POV.
“And you are just telling me? Really?” I furrowed my eyebrows as I looked at him.
“I never wanted you to start acting like my mother. She wouldn’t let me rest either. I don’t know why both of you are just alike.” He sneered as he raised his eyebrows as he looked at me.
“Alike? You can’t be serious right now, Rex!!” I furrowed my eyebrows as I looked at him.
“He is not a threat to me and before he would even think of doing anything stupid, we would have moved Elena and our twins away from here for good.” He sneered.
“That easy? When you haven’t even spoken to her yet or even convinced her.”
“Well, I never thought telling you would be important. How about Collins Morgan, anything about him?” He asked as he looked at me.
“Yeah, Achilles was able to gather a little information about him but then, there is something more twisted.” I said as I raised my eyebrows.
“Kingsley never got the message from the founding families but from a lady in the Night wolves pack.” I muttered as I watched his eyes go wild.
“Night wolves pack?” He gasped out in shock as he looked at me.
“Yeah, Night wolves pack!!” I confirmed as I looked at him and from his expression, it was obvious that he knew something about the Night wolves pack.
“Anything?” I asked him as I paused my part of the story.
“Nah, nothing!” He said with a smile lingering on his face. “I thought the Night wolves pack ceased to exist after their Alpha, Edgar, died.” He mumbled.
“Edgar? Which means you knew about the pack?” I questioned as I felt completely lost.
I knew nothing about the pack and it was more confusing hearing him talk about the pack and even knowing who their Alpha was.
“Yeah, I met him a few times before his death.” He responded.
“So, who was the lady you spoke about? Who told Kingsley about Elena?” He said in a husky voice now.
I knew that voice. That was the voice of his killer wolf instinct.
“Desdemona.” I responded as I looked at him.
“Desdemona? I thought she died years back, if I’m not wrong, now it should be three years already.” He sneered as he got up on his feet.
“But how come she is now on Kingsley’s side?” He furrowed his eyebrows as he paced about for a while before turning back to me.
“She is not their Alpha if that is what you are thinking.” I finally cut in as I looked right into his eyes. “Collins Morgan is their Alpha.” I shrugged huskily as I looked at him.
I felt his heartbeat pause for a while and the heavy thud it left at intervals as he frowned his face.
“Collins Morgan, Alpha of the Night wolves pack and who is Desdemona? Who is she in the pack now? Their luna or what?” He tilted his lips as I watched his paranoia become intense.
“She is just a pack member. That’s all we could get, nothing much.” I responded with a broad smile on my face.
He exhaled gently as he looked at me. “Let’s not spoil our day. Go, get dressed up. We need to get to the office.” He snapped as he walked inside his room.
I quickly got dressed up as we drove down to the hotel.
“I know why he is here. He is here to make us even.” He said as he rolled his eyes. Achilles remained quiet as he focused on the road.
“He will only end up disappointed. Mother won’t stop calling.” He shrugged as he looked at me.
“At least, you just have to hear her out.” I muttered.
“We both know why she is calling, we both know, Clark.” He raised his eyebrows as he looked at me.
“Well, I don’t know.” I chuckled softly as I took the phone from him and I went ahead to accept her incoming call.
“Good morning, Alice.” I greeted excitedly.
“Good morning, Clark. I have been trying to reach Rex but he wouldn’t pick. Is everything alright?” She scowled over the phone.
“Yes, everything is perfectly fine, mother!!” He responded as he wore a straight face.
“What do you mean by everything is perfectly fine? How do you expect me to believe you when you keep on ignoring my call, Rex?” She snarled, placing so much emphasis on his name and whenever she was pretty upset with him, she wouldn’t fail to address him by his full name and not the abbreviated “Rex” we went by.
“I am on my way to work, mother. I promise to call you back when I get to my office.” He sneered as he rolled his eyes.
“No way! You should be thinking on how to convince Elena to return back to the pack house with my grandchildren, Rex!! You are pretty aware that Kingsley is currently in New Kingston and you know why he is even there. He is there to avenge Maya’s death and you know that and all you can think about is work?” She scowled angrily.
I could hear how heavy her heartbeat was.
“Come on, Alice. You have absolutely nothing to worry about. And by the way, Elena’s office is directly at the front of Rex’s office and we have the pack warriors protecting the lobby as well as the entrance and today, we will inform them about Kingsley and also, we have Achilles tracking down Kingsley and his men.” I muttered, trying to calm her down.
“I hope so. I won’t want anything to happen to Elena or to my two little grandchildren.” She muttered.
“Okay, we have heard you, mother. Now can we have a peaceful drive to the office?” Rex shrugged as he looked at his phone.
“Clark, don’t be a dick today. Make sure you protect Elena at all costs. And Rex, I hope you do the same.” She sneered before ending the call.
“I knew it. I knew that was why she was calling.” Rex rolled his eyes as he rubbed his forehead.
