Kamrynn’s POV
Our breathing was ragged, and the room was quiet except for the sound of it. My chest rose and fell rapidly as I tried to catch my breath, my heart still racing from the intensity of everything that had just happened.
Calvin’s arms were wrapped tightly around me, his body warm and solid beneath mine as I rested against his chest. The feel of his heartbeat, strong and steady, was comforting, and I knew in that moment that I didn’t want to be anywhere else.
I let my eyes flutter shut for a moment, savoring the quiet intimacy between us. But just as I was beginning to relax, I felt Calvin shift beneath me.
At first, I thought he was just adjusting his position, but then I felt it-a tremor running through his body.
“Calvin?” I lifted my head slightly, frowning as I looked down at him. His face was flushed, his eyes damp, and it took me a moment to realize what was happening. He was crying.
“Calvin!” I sat up quickly, panic gripping my chest. “What’s wrong? Did I hurt you? Are you okay?”
He shook his head, letting out a soft, shaky laugh as he wiped at his eyes. “No, no. You didn’t hurt me. I’m fine.”
“Then… why are you crying?” I asked, my voice softer now, though the worry hadn’t completely left me.
He sniffled, blinking up at me with those emerald, soulful eyes that had always made me feel like I was the only person in the world.
“I’m just… happy,” he said, his voice thick with emotion. “I’m so happy, Kamrynn. And I’m so grateful. I can’t believe I almost lost you. I can’t believe after everything, you’re still here with me.”
My heart clenched, and tears pricked at the corners of my eyes as I reached out to brush his hair back from his forehead. “Calvin… I love you. I’ve always loved you. And I’m not going anywhere.”
He let out a soft, broken laugh and pulled me back down against his chest, holding me so tightly that I could feel his heart pounding beneath my cheek.
“I swear to you, Kamrynn,” he whispered, his voice fierce and full of conviction, “I’m going to make you happy for the rest of my life. I’ll spend every day making up for everything I did, for every moment I hurt you. You’re my mate, my love, my everything.”
Tears slipped down my cheeks, and I buried my face in his neck, letting his warmth and his words wrap around me like a blanket.
“I already am happy,” I whispered. “Because I have you.”
We stayed like that for a while, wrapped up in each other, neither of us wanting to let go. But after a few minutes, Calvin shifted again, leaning back slightly so he could look at me.
“I have a question,” he said, his voice still a little hoarse from crying.
I smiled, brushing my thumb gently over his cheek. “What is it?”
He hesitated for a moment, like he was trying to find the right words, and then he took a deep breath.
“Will you be my Luna? Officially?”
I blinked, my breath catching in my throat. “What?”
“You heard me,” he said, a small smile tugging at the corners of his lips. “Will you be my Luna, Kamrynn? Not just because of the bond, or because it’s what everyone expects, but because it’s what you want?”
My heart swelled, and I felt my throat tighten as more tears threatened to spill. “Calvin, I… yes. Of course, I will.”
His smile widened, and he let out a relieved laugh, pulling me into another tight hug.
“Wait right here,” he said suddenly, sitting up and gently moving me off his chest. He reached over to the nightstand and grabbed a notepad and pen that had been left there, then tore off a small piece of paper.
I watched, curious, as he folded and twisted the paper with surprising precision, his brows furrowed in concentration. It took me a moment to realize what he was doing, and when I did, my heart skipped a beat.
“Is that…?”
“A paper ring,” he said with a grin, holding it up proudly. “Just like the one I made for you when we were kids.”
Tears filled my eyes again, and I reached out, letting him slip the paper ring onto my finger. It fit perfectly, just like it had back then.
“I know it’s not much,” he said softly, his voice turning serious. “But when we get back to the Pack, I’ll get you a real one. A proper ring. Something worthy of you.”
I shook my head, smiling through my tears. “I don’t care about that. This… this is perfect.”
Calvin let out a soft laugh, his eyes shining with love and affection. “You’re perfect.”
And then he kissed me-softly, sweetly, like I was something precious and fragile, and he never wanted to let me go.
When we finally pulled away, I curled up against his chest, resting my head over his heart. His arms wrapped around me, holding me close, and I let out a contented sigh as his warmth lulled me closer to sleep.
“I love you,” he whispered, his voice barely audible.
“I love you too,” I murmured, my eyes drifting shut.
And as I listened to the steady beat of his heart, I let the peace of the moment carry me off to sleep.
