Rosalind walked in and then went to the bathroom to change her clothes.
Suddenly, she felt very awkward and didn’t know what to say. It seemed like nothing she said would be appropriate.
When she came out, he was still busy with his work.
Rosalind had no choice but to sit on the sofa and watch Ulric work, as she used to do.
The sound of a message interrupted her thoughts.
She looked down and saw a message from Malcolm.
“I’m sorry, Rosalind. I’m just not in the mood to eat. It has nothing to do with you! I didn’t expect my parents to force Tilda to call you and disturb you. Please don’t be angry.”
Rosalind could imagine the expression on Malcolm’s face when he typed those words. He must look anxious and uneasy.
But she wasn’t angry at all.
She understood Malcolm’s parents’ behavior of forcing Tilda to call her. Parents loved their own children, after all. Seeing their son like this, his parents must be heartbroken.
“Malcolm, I’m not angry. Take good care of yourself.”
Shortly after she sent the text, she received a voice message from Malcolm.
“They insist on saying that I’m starving myself for you. No matter how I explain it, they won’t listen! I just miss the children.”
Rosalind could understand this even more.
She knew better than anyone how much Malcolm had done for Jake and Floyd.
Just as she was about to reply to the message, he sent another very short voice message, only one second long.
Rosalind tried to transcribe it but accidentally pressed play because it was too short.
In the large hospital room, Malcolm’s hoarse yet gentle voice suddenly resounded.
“I miss you too.”
Rosalind really wanted to throw her phone away.
Without even looking up, she could feel Ulric’s gaze.
Rosalind really wanted to bang her head against the wall!
The main point was that Malcolm’s words were so subtle!
Hearing Malcolm’s words, it was easy for people to assume that his response was a result of her saying, “I miss you.”
“Um, I…”
Before she could say anything, Ulric stood up from behind the desk.
She thought he was coming towards her, but suddenly, Ulric changed direction and went straight into the bathroom, closing the door.
Then, after less than half a minute, the sound of running water came from the bathroom.
He went to take a shower!
She hadn’t explained yet!
Rosalind quickly put on her slippers and walked to the bathroom door, calling out, “Ulric, it’s not what you think!”
The sound of water inside didn’t stop. After a while, she finally heard him speak.
“It has nothing to do with me. You don’t have to explain it to me.”
Rosalind was speechless. His cold tone made her lose face a bit.
“If you don’t want to hear it, then forget it.”
She couldn’t be bothered to explain!
Back on the bed, Rosalind simply stuffed her phone under the pillow and closed her eyes, forcing herself to sleep.
She thought that after experiencing all this, she wouldn’t be able to sleep at all. But maybe it was because of the emotional ups and downs today that drained her energy. Rosalind listened to the sound of water in the bathroom and actually fell asleep.
By the time Ulric came out, she was already fast asleep.
He walked to the side of the bed and paused for almost a minute before reaching out his hand and waving it in front of Rosalind’s face.
No response.
Confirming that she was really asleep, Ulric calmly glanced in her direction.
Where did Rosalind put her phone?
