Killian’s POV.
I sat beside Elena watching her sleep peacefully, I couldn’t believe I had almost lost her.
And to that unfortunate bastard Graham. I couldn’t believe he played his game right under my nose. If only Elena hadn’t passed out, I wanted to torture him even in death.
I knew something was off about him but I never in my wildest imagination thought that he could go that far, he was my most loyal guard, he had the affairs of the pack at heart, it pains me that he had to choose such a horrible path for himself.
I couldn’t help but wonder why he hated Elena this much, or was there more to it than just merely being suspicious of her? Could there be a more solid reason why he wanted to take her life? He couldn’t possibly try to kill her by only being suspicious right?
The more I thought about it, the more incredibly confused it left me. I decided to push the thoughts to the back of my head and focus more on the fact that Elena was safe and back in my life. There was no need to worry more about Graham since he wasn’t here anymore. He got exactly what he deserved.
A wide smile spread through my face as she stirred slightly in her sleep, she looked so innocent and extremely beautiful despite the slight scratches on her face caused by that animal.
I reached out and took hold of her hand, caressing gently. I wished there was a way I could lift the pains and sorrows away from her. She has been through so much and it hurts to see her still going through so much more.
“I’m sorry you have to go through all of this Elena,” I mumbled leaning forward and kissed her hand repeatedly.
If only I could hold this hands in mine through every minute of the day forever, no one dared to hurt her again.
For several minutes, I sat there, watching her sleep. I didn’t want to leave for a second. I wanted to be by her side forever.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. “Alpha,” I heard one of my guards call.
“Yes?”
“It’s Luna Aria, she’s awake,”
My eyes snapped wide open, I had almost forgotten about her. It was only the thoughts of Elena that had consumed my mind.
Nonetheless, it was a great relief to hear the news of Aria’s recovery.
I turned towards Elena, then back to the guard. I really didn’t want to leave her side.
But I also needed to see Aria, if for anything, I needed to apologize for the wrong accusations I had placed on her, even though it was partly her fault.
“I’m going to see her now, make sure to guard the entrance of this ward with your life, if anything happens to her, you’ll be sorry,” I instructed and he nodded frantically.
Taking a last glance at Elena, I walked out of the ward, towards Aria’s ward.
She laid still on the bed, staring at the ceiling as I walked in.
I could tell she was weak, else she would have flared up and rained abuses on me, but instead, she slowly turned around to stare at me, then dragged her gaze back to the ceiling.
I stood watching her in silence, confused about the right words to say to her. “I’m glad you are well,” I managed to mutter and she laughed.
“Suddenly nice huh? Aren’t you going to throw me back into the cell and leave me to rot away?” She chuckled, her gaze still glued to the ceiling.
I couldn’t say a word, I needed to let her take out her anger on me.
“News got to me that Elena has been found,” she suddenly blurted.
I cleared my throat nervously. “Uhm… Yes… Yes.” I stuttered and she chuckled dryly.
“So it wasn’t me after all,” she turned to stare at me, I was surprised by how calm and collected she was. Isn’t it the stage where she rains insults at me for humiliating her over a crime she had no hand in? Why then does she look so calm?
“It was Graham, the lead warrior,” I replied.
“Why are you here then? Shouldn’t you be with your precious little mate? After all, you almost burnt down the entire pack, she’s here now, isn’t she? go be with her,” she muttered, her voice still remained calm as she spoke.
“Aria listen, I just wanted to apologize for…”
“For what?” She cut in immediately, her gaze boring into mine. “Having me locked up? Starving me to the point of death? Humiliating me before the entire pack? Which one of them are you sorry for?”
I stared at her blankly without uttering a word. I was beginning to realize how badly I hurt her, I was terribly infuriated by Elena’s disappearance that nothing else mattered to me.
“I shouldn’t have done that, accept my apologies,” I managed to mutter.
“You have no excuse for what you did Killian, you have always craved an opportunity to punish me and this came just right in time,” she laughed dryly.
“That’s not true,” I muttered.
“You know it is, don’t deny it, you didn’t even think twice before throwing me in here like a criminal even after I swore severally that I have no hand in Elena’s disappearance,” she cut in. “I could have died Killian, you were ready to let me rot away in the cell, you looked at me with so much disgust!” Her voice was beginning to break into a yell.
“Mama!” I suddenly froze as I heard Emily’s tiny voice call. Turning around, I saw her standing by the door side, while my mother stood behind her. Her eyes were laced with tiny droplets of tears as she gazed at her mother on the sick bed.
In a swift move, she ran all the way towards the bed and jumped on her. “I looked for you everywhere Mama, I was so scared,” she cried.
“Why are you on a sick bed? Father said you stepped out for an urgent call,” my heart did a double flip as she repeated my exact words to Aria.
Aria chuckled, turning to glance at me, then back to her. “Of course, I did baby, I’m sorry I scared you, I didn’t know it would take this long,” she mumbled holding her tightly to her chest. “It’s okay, I’m here now.”
I twitched slightly in my spot as I watched mother and daughter display utmost affection for each other.
