Elena’s POV.
I decided to take a little stroll through the palace. It’s been an entire twenty four hours since I moved in, and it’s been blissful so far.
The maids attended to every one of my needs without as little as a frown on their faces making me wonder if they weren’t the same people who treated me like trash when I worked with them years ago. Now they bowed for me and ran errands too.
I was having a really good time at the palace, except for Aria who kept shooting dagger stares at me at every chance she got.
Killian had stepped out for a meeting with the elders, it took every strength in me to convince him to attend the meeting, he was willing to stay back and have me in his arms all through, despite sleeping in my room last night.
My gaze suddenly landed on the lead warrior, Graham, walking towards me.
I swiftly turned around and started walking back inside. The last thing I wanted was to have his prickling gaze piercing into my skin per usual.
“Elena!” I suddenly heard him call out to me, and I halted on my track, cursing under my breath.
Exhaling a deep breath, I turned back around to face him with a fake grin on my face. “Hey Graham, I didn’t see you there,” I lied.
He chuckled lightly, obviously aware that I was telling a lie.
“It’s good to see you again, you look well.”
“Thank you,” I managed to mutter, wondering what he wanted now.
“You are truly back to stay.” He said, per usual, his eyes scrutinizing me, from the tip of my head to my toes.
Sometimes, I wonder what his deal with me truly is.
Instead of giving him a reply, I simply shrugged, hoping that sent him a message of my lack of interest in whatever he had to say. But Graham looked like he was only getting started.
I instantly regretted coming out for a stroll.
“And you’ve moved into the palace as well.”
Again, I shrugged in response.
“I’m curious though, do you plan on getting back with Alpha Killian?” He continued.
“Uhm… Do you have a problem with that?” I raised my brows at him.
“Not at all, I’m just curious to know, but it’s fine if you don’t want to say anything about it,” he smiled.
“Yeah, it’s between the Alpha and I to decide, and if it eventually becomes official, then the public can be informed,” I returned his smile, with a rather fake one.
I was satisfied with the look of remorse my words left on his face.
“Oh uh… That’s… That’s understandable.” He stuttered.
“Well, I hope you are alright? And totally enjoying your stay here?” He blurted, yet again.
What exactly was he hoping to get from me? He keeps trying to strike up unnecessary conversations with me.
“I’m okay Graham, thank you.” I managed a small smile.
“If you will excuse me, I have to head back inside now.” I quickly added.
“That’s okay, thanks for your time, and enjoy your stay, Elena,” he retorted.
I flashed him a small smile, turning around, d and quickly headed out.
I can never understand the reason behind his creepiness.
Walking back into the house, I met Aria seated in the dining with Emily.
In a swift move, Emily struggled out of her arms and ran towards me.
“Aunt Elena, you are living with us now?” She asked in her tiny voice.
I crouched downwards to her level and caressed her cheeks gently while she smiled innocently. She reminded me so much of Athena. I bet they would have both gotten along perfectly if she had been here.
“Yes princess, for now,” I replied.
“If Father returns, will you join us to…” She was suddenly cut shut as Aria dragged her roughly away from me. “What did I tell you about this woman?” She gritted.
“But mother, Auntie Elena is a nice person, maybe you don’t know her well yet,” Emily pouted.
That seemed to aggravate her now. “You must not speak even her name, you hear me?” She grabbed her arms forcefully and headed out of the dining.
I was really satisfied with the way Emily wasn’t minding her mother’s hatred for me. She seemed to genuinely like me.
Almost immediately, Luna Drusilla walked through the corner.
“Elena, thank goodness you are here, dinner is almost ready,” she announced and I smiled.
Luna Drusilla has also been trying to get along with me as well. As awkward as it seemed at the beginning, it was slowly getting better.
“Thanks, Luna, I’ll quickly freshen up and join you,” I replied.
“Elena, you don’t have to be formal with me, you can just call me Mom,” she blurted and I couldn’t help the wide smile that broke out on my face.
“I will, thanks M.. Mom,” I stuttered, trying to get the words right.
She smiled at me and headed back into the kitchen while I proceeded towards my room with a big smile on my room.
My smile totally vanished immediately I walked into my room, I could sense a strong presence all over me.
I couldn’t ignore it, I was damn sure that I wasn’t alone in the room. Could Aragorn have sent his usual warnings yet again?
I quickly rushed to my bedside, throwing off my pillow, and grabbed the sharp blade that I had intended to use on Killian. I usually hid it under the pillow if I didn’t have any use for it while going out.
“Come out now or I’ll find you and slit your throat,” I gritted, carefully glancing through every corner there is in the room, making sure I wouldn’t be attacked unawares from a hidden corner.
Suddenly, I heard a rustling sound through the corner of my wardrobe and an unknown figure emerged.
I quickly charged towards him before he could fully steady himself and threw him to the floor, climbing over him and placed the sharp edge of the blade on his throat.
“Geez Elena, relax, it’s me.” I suddenly heard a familiar voice groan.
Darius?
