Elena’s POV.
“I don’t know you from anywhere, how could I have stepped on you?” Darius fired at him.
He bursted into laughter. “You have really been fooling yourself to be the kid’s father that you now believe it huh?”
My heart skipped as he spoke. It was obvious that this strange man knew me so well. He obviously knew the kid’s biological father.
I could tell that my situation had escalated. I have always avoided the discussion about my past whenever Darius brought it up, and now he was about to find out from a total stranger.
My heart raced drastically, realizing the messy situation that I was in.
“What rubbish are you even saying? I think you have us mistaken, please hand over the kids and we will overlook this inconvenience,” Darius was getting more pissed off right now.
“Overlook?” He chuckled. “Anyways, I do not have a word to spare you.” He turned to face me.
I quivered as his prickling gaze scrutinized me. “Elena Salvador, will you also pretend you do not know what I’m talking about?”
“What… What do you want?” I stuttered.
“Now that is what I’m talking about,” he stepped closer to me but Darius swiftly stepped forward, blocking me away from him.
It broke my heart knowing that Darius was willing to put his life in line for me and my kids but all he gets is betrayal.
“I don’t want to be violent, so I’m just going to go ahead and let you know what I want from you,”
“We are all ears,” Darius snapped at him.
“It’s not a big deal, I want the head of your ex-mate,” I froze on the spot as his words hit me hard across the ear. I trembled uncontrollably, beads of sweat trickling down my forehead under the cool breeze wheezing around the woods.
What does he mean by the head of my ex-mate? Perhaps I didn’t hear him correctly.
“What did you just say?” Darius stepped closer towards him. He was boiling in rage right now. And it hurts knowing that everything will turn on him soon.
“Her ex-mate, she knows what I’m talking Jo about,”
“He’s long gone and forgotten, now can you bring forth my kids?” Darius gritted.
“He’s neither gone nor forgotten,” he blurted.
My body shook feverishly as he kept hinting at Killian.
“Hold up, you don’t know about her ex-mate?” He raised his brows in mockery. “Wow, this is juicier than I had expected.”
“Why are you doing this? What do you stand to gain from all of this?” My voice trembled.
I was already scared of the outcome when Darius finally learns the truth.
“Simple, Killian’s head,” he mentioned the name that I dreaded he’d call.
“What rubbish do you keep blurting? She knows no Killian,” Darius snapped and my heat raced rapidly.
“But she definitely knows Killian Dimitri, the Alpha of Crescent Starpack, or don’t you, Elena?” He finally dropped the bomb.
I watched with tears clouding my eyes as Darius moved away from me, now turning around to face me with a questioning look on his face.
“What is he talking about?”
“I’m sorry Darius, I was going to tell you everything,” I muttered through my tears.
I saw the pain reflect in his eyes, it was almost the same look in Killian’s eyes the day he banished me. It reflected betrayal, anger, and confusion.
No, this can’t be happening. Darius is the only strong pillar in my life right now, if he pushes me, then my world will crumble. Where do I start to explain to him why I hid my past with Killian from him? He was already furious and with the look in his eyes. I could tell nothing I would say would have any effect on him.
“Killian Dimitri is your ex-mate?” Darius mumbled, his voice was barely audible. I could tell that the discovery was taking a toll on him.
“I’m surprised you have lived with her for several years and yet don’t know this piece of information; the strange man blurted. “The lady standing beside you was rejected and banished from Crescent Star pack, and oh do you know that the kids you keep referring to as yours are actually his?”
If I had supernatural powers, I would have plucked this horrible man’s heart from his chest in a second. He was effortlessly destroying all that I’ve struggled to build over the years.
“What?” Darius’s voice became less audible as the seconds ticked by.
I watched in guilt and shame as he dragged his gaze to the floor in humiliation, his hands raking through his hair frustratedly.
“It’s all a lie, right? None of all that he said is true right? Tell me that he is fucking lying!” He growled at me in fury.
I flinched back in fright, nodding my head at him while tears streamed down my cheeks. I was lost for words.
“So, all this while, you lied to me.. You fucking looked me in the eyes and told only lies, you know how much I detest Killian, you know all that he did to me, and yet, you cover such truth about him from me?”
“That was exactly why I couldn’t tell you the truth Darius, would you have still loved me and my kids if you knew the truth about Killian and I? I lied to protect what we share, and I was really going to tell you but I was scared of how you would take it,” I cried bitterly.
“You fucking lied to protect yourself!” He snarled at me. “You should have trusted me, we are mates for goodness sake! Why would you choose to hurt me this way when all I’ve done is treat you wonderfully.”
“I’m sorry Darius please, I didn’t mean to hurt you, I would never do that,” tears continued to floor nonstop from my eyes.
This wasn’t how things were supposed to turn out, this was a total disaster.
“Tell me, was any of it real? The moments we shared together? Or was everything a plot to get my pity?” He asked, staring deep into my eyes as if trying to figure out the answer himself by searching through my eyes.
“None of the moments we shared was a lie, I chose you, Darius, Killian is my past and I have buried everything that concerned him behind me, please believe me.”
He scoffed dryly, ruffling his hair frustratedly. “I do not believe any word that comes from you anymore,” he spat.
“You know what? I’m going to let you two sort this out because I’m obviously left behind, you can return to the house when you are done, that is if you want to,”
My heart shattered into a million pieces as he spoke with so much resentment.
“You disgust me.” He spat, turning around, and walked away.
