in search of her.

Elena’s POV.
“Look who’s growing a big tummy,” Darius teased as he walked into my room, beaming all smiles.
I pouted dramatically, rolling my eyes at him. “I’m offended.”
Despite how hard I tried to put a smile on my face, there was a tiny voice at the back of my head reminding me of how soon everything would be out, Darius would discover that the child I was carrying belonged to Alpha Killian; the man that he despised with everything; the man that he was planning his death with utmost tempo.
What becomes of me when he discovers the truth? I couldn’t stop thinking.
What if the discovery turns him into a monster and he harms my child and I?
The thoughts kept eating me up as each day flew by. I knew damn well that war was brewing.
“Elena!” I quickly snapped out of my chain of thoughts as I felt him tap me on the shoulder.
“Are you okay? I’ve been talking but you weren’t responding,” he pouted.
I quickly fixed a smile on my face, trying to cover up my miserable state. “Oh uhm, I’m okay, I’m just really tired.”
“Well, with the size of your belly right now, you should really be tired,” he teased.
I gasped loudly, feigning hurt. “How dare you.”
“I’m sorry, babydoll,” he winked at me.
I couldn’t help but blush. I always loved it when he called me that.
“You should get a good rest,” he said walking towards me on the bed and sat beside me. “C’mon, I’ll be here until you fall asleep.”
I flashed him a small smile, squeezing my eyes shut, and repositioned my head on the pillow, I wanted to get a good sleep, I hadn’t been able to do that since the turmoil started in my head. Maybe with his presence over me, I could really push my fears to the side and get a good rest.
As each second flew by, I delved deeper into the realms of darkness as sleep overtook me.
Almost immediately, a loud knock on the door jolted up from the bed in fright.
“Hey… Hey… Relax, it’s nothing, don’t panic,” he tried to hold me down.
Why do I feel like the rate at which the knock was placed isn’t usual? It can’t be nothing.
“Relax okay? I will go check that out,” he patted my arms soothingly and headed towards the door.
I strained my eyes, watching as he opened the door to the frightened face of one of the warriors.
“What is this? Why did you knock in such way? Do you not realize I have a fragile woman in here?” He barked at him.
“I’m sorry Alpha, but we have a problem,” he blurted out.
My heart did a heavy flip at the mention of that.
Of course, I knew something was off.
“What’s going on?” Darius inquired.
“Warriors from Crescent Star pack are here, they have us surrounded,”
This time my heart skipped a double beat as his words hit my ear. The Crescent Star pack is here? Could they have found out about my whereabouts? Do they already know that I am here?
“Why are they here? Did you find out what they want?” Darius gritted. I watched as his palms curled into a tight fist.
“They seem to be looking for someone, a lady precisely,” the warrior blurted.
At this point, I couldn’t feel myself anymore, I was on the verge of taking my last breath and giving up all the horrible dilemmas that seemed never to stop hovering all around me.
I knew my stay here was close to hitting the rock but I never expected it to be so soon.
“And why would they be looking for whoever it is here?” Darius’s voice was turning into a roar now.
“Well, according to them, they’ve rounded all the neighboring packs before getting here, whoever they are looking for seems pretty important,” the warrior replied.
Darius drew out a long hiss.
“Get the rest of the warriors, go back out there and stop them from searching any damn place,” he yelled.
“With what has happened between us they have absolutely no right to come here looking for anyone.”
“Try to hold them down, I’ll join you in a minute,” he dismissed him, turning around and walked toward me.
“What’s going on? Is everything okay?” I tried to pretend like I wasn’t aware of what was going on.
I prayed fervently that he doesn’t suspect me to be the lady they were in search of.
“Crescent Star pack seem to want to start a war and I’ll give them just that, I’ve waited so long for this,” he chuckled dryly. I could sense the fury boiling in his eyes.
“Darius please, don’t get into a fight,” I pleaded.
“Don’t worry about it babydoll, I’ll sort it out,” he replied.
“Well, can you promise me that you will sort it out without getting into a fight?”
He breathed out, still clutching onto his tight fist. “I can’t assure you that Elena, they are in my territory in search of someone and that’s not happening, whoever they are looking for is not here, and if they are not going to believe that, then I’m left with no choice but to engage them.”
Somehow, I was surprised that he wasn’t looking my way in the category of the lady being searched for, I mean I was the only stranger in their midst.
“Don’t leave the room, I’ll have the entrance heavily guarded, you are safe okay?”
I nodded slightly, staring blankly at him, wondering what I had done to deserve such an outstanding man who cared for me beyond measure.
“Just stay in here, I’ll be back shortly,” he leaned forward, pecking me on the forehead, and walked away.
Immediately he shut the door behind him, I sprung to my feet, pacing around the room praying fervently that a fight wouldn’t break out.
They have been so good to me, and been the reason for war and loss of lives here will have me broken for the rest of my days on earth.
I couldn’t help but wonder why Killian was suddenly searching everywhere for me. Didn’t he reject and banish me within a split second? Why then is he suddenly in search of me?
Or could he be regretting letting me go alive? And is searching to kill me completely?
