Elena’s POV.
Life at greenwoods pack keeps getting better each day. I was treated with so much care and everyone contributed in any way they could to make sure that I remained healthy even when Darius was out for meetings.
Over the short time I’ve stayed here, I could tell one unique thing about them, they cared for each other greatly, and that I cherished so much. It is something Crescent Star Pack clearly lacks, if they actually looked out for each other, I wouldn’t be in this mess.
A loud rumbling of my stomach snapped me back to reality. I was starving.
It was late in the night and the chefs, including the rest of the house workers have retired for the night, I actually ate to a pulp before they left but being a pregnant woman involves getting hungry the next minute after you’ve eaten.
Was this what my mother went through to give birth to me? I would have treated her with much more love than I ever did, if she was here. This is not a manageable journey.
I slowly climbed down the bed and headed towards the kitchen, I needed to fix myself a quick meal.
As I prepared the meal, it suddenly occurred to me that Darius haven’t had anything since noon. He had locked himself in a separate chamber of his, that he referred to as his study. No one was allowed into the room, not even me.
Well, today is going to be an exception because I will be taking his food to him. He hasn’t had anything since he went in there at noon.
I quickly poured the food into separate plates and headed towards the chamber.
I placed a soft knock on the door and awaited his response. Shortly afterwards, the door creaked open revealing his weary face.
Somehow, I could tell something was off about him, he had a gloomy look and his eyes looked like he may have cried.
“Hey, what are you doing here? You should be resting,” he said, flashing me a warm smile, I could tell he was trying hard to mask his gloomy look.
“You’ve been in there since noon and you’ve not had anything, I brought dinner.”
He smiled, reaching out to stroke my cheeks. I shuddered slightly as a warm feeling washed over me.
Ever since we had the discussion about our mate bond, I have tried every possibility to control myself and Darius did as well.
We tried to keep a little bit distance of body contact to help with the process.
“You shouldn’t be worrying yourself like this, you need all the rest you can get Elena.” His voice was laced with worry.
“Well, I was hungry too, see, I made it for the both of us,” I replied.
“Why didn’t you let the chefs make the meal instead of putting yourself through stress?”
“They’ve all retired for the night,”
“Nonsense,” he hissed, waving his hand in the air. “I’ll call them all back to attend to you!”
A wide smile broke out on my face as he spoke, sometimes I couldn’t stop wondering why he cared so much for me.
“Well, I already made it, we have to eat it right?” I teased and he chuckled.
“Here, you can have yours, I’ll go eat mine at the dining,” I passed the plate to him and turned around heading out. No one was allowed into the room and I really do not want to be of any inconvenience or give room for awkwardness. I mean he is already kind enough letting me stay with him, it will be totally ungrateful of me to break his rules.
“Elena!” I suddenly heard him call and I turned to face him.
“Huh?”
“C’mon, get in here and let’s eat together,” he smiled at me.
My eyes flew wide open in shock. Why was he letting me in?
“What? You don’t let anyone in there,” I tried to protest.
“Well, I’m letting you in, c’mon,” he opened the door wider to give me passage.
The room was nothing like I expected, it wasn’t neatly arranged the least. I was surprised he was able to stay in a place like this without letting the house workers clean it up.
Clutching tightly to my tray of food, I spun around the room slowly, taking in the environment.
Aside the room looking like an abandoned warehouse, the only thing that caught my attention was the wall. It had different names inscribed on it.
I wondered what this place was for, there seem to be a tensed air hovering around.
“Confused huh?” I heard him say behind me.
“That is an understatement,” I replied and he chuckled.
“Why don’t you let the house workers come in and arrange this place?” I questioned.
“No, I can’t risk it, I let you in because I trust you,”
I furrowed my brows at him.
“Is it some kind of secret ritual thing?” I blurted out and he roared in laughter.
“Now, that’s funny,” he laughed, shaking his head in amusement. “It’s a long story actually, but this room holds respect for everyone I lost during a brutal battle, including my parents.”
My eyes snapped wide open in shock. “Oh my goodness, Darius, I’m so sorry.”
He smiled sadly. “It’s fine.”
“It was a long time ago, a fight had broken out between us and the Diamond Ave pack, we overpowered them but instead of surrendering, they formed alliance with Crescent Star pack.”
My heart almost jumped out of my chest as he mentioned my ex pack.
“Killian Dimitri,” he suddenly pointed out to a side of the wall, and there Killian’s name was written boldly with a blood stain.
“He led the fight, he was too powerfulul for us to handle, almost everyone was murdered, my parents weren’t so lucky, I only managed to escape,” he spoke in a very low tone.
I could tell he was pained seeing how tight he was gripping the plate.
“Everyday, I train myself and my warriors, and when the time is right, I will pay him a little visit, I’ll make sure I send him to the underworld even if it takes my last drop of blood.”
My body trembled as he spoke with so much anger and terror.
Why does the worst things keep finding their way to me?
