second chance mate.

“Be careful, don’t step on any hard surface,” Darius cooed, his gaze carefully laid on me. He was taking me on a walk.
The midwives suggested that I take long walks sometimes and Darius has taken it too seriously.
I couldn’t help but wonder how someone of his status would go out of his way to please someone like me.
“Darius, I’m fine, I can clearly see my way,” I groaned, rolling my eyes at him. “It’s not helping that you see me as a vegetable.”
He bursted into laughter, shaking his head amusedly. “But you are my vegetable,”
I gasped dramatically, feigning shock. “How dare you!” I growled, chasing after him.
Darius and I have gotten so close over the past few days, and I have loosened up a great deal around him. Despite my firm resolve not to put my trust in anyone since Killian betrayed me, somehow I could feel myself getting really attached to him and he was gaining my trust as well.
He’s a good man and right now, I couldn’t be more glad that his night watchers had saved me that night and brought me to him.
“Caught you!” I screamed throwing my arms around him.
Surprisingly, I felt his hand wrap around my waist.
There was no explanation as to how I felt as his hands laid on me, but I could feel goosebumps rise on my skin, warm heat rushing over my body.
What is this feeling?
I felt these tiny sparks whenever we had a close contact and I always brushed it out of my head thinking it was mere accident. But it was becoming more pronounced now.
I could feel the sharp spark between us as an intense yearn for his touch overcame me, but I was strong enough to put myself together and not do something silly.
“Are you okay?” He asked.
“Yeah… Yeah I am, I just felt a little pain in my stomach,” I lied.
“Oh my! Let’s go to the clinic immediately,” his eyes widened in concern.
I chuckled lightly. “No, it’s not that serious, I just need to rest, that’s all.”
“Alright, I’ll take you home immediately,” he carefully held my hand and started leading me back home while I tried to withstand the sparks flickering through my body with his hand on mine.
**
The uncontrollable sparks was rapidly growing beyond my control, I suddenly yearned for his touch always, every close contact between us set my body on fire.
It was almost like the way I felt for Killian, the crazy yearning to have him do things to me.
My wolf always leaped excitedly whenever he was around me.
I couldn’t stop wondering how his presence could do to my body what only Killian was able to.
To say I was scared would be an understatement.
It suddenly struck me, could Darius be my second chance mate?
It was beginning to make a little sense.
I laid on the clinic bed as one of the midwives examined my stomach, while Darius stood at a close corner watching.
“I’m happy to announce to you that your child is in good condition,” she flashed me a warm smile.
“Thank you.”
“Send for me if you need anything,” she said and I nodded.
She bowed slightly for Darius before walking away.
“You see? My fruit suggestions weren’t in vain after all,” he grinned drawing out a seat and sat.
“Pride, is that you?” I teased and he busted into laughter.
“Are you okay though? Do you need anything?”
“I’m perfectly okay, all thanks to you,” I smiled.
The spark was there again, this time simmering hotter than usual. It was really becoming more uncontrollable.
Suddenly, he reached out and grabbed my hand. “You feel it too, don’t you? The connection, the spark? The uncontrollable hunger, you feel it too right?”
My eyes flew wide open in shock as his words streamed into my ears.
He flashed me the most flirtatious smile I have ever seen on him, stroking my hands gently. “I know you do babydoll, I’ve tried hard to ignore it but I can’t anymore.”
Suddenly, the spark I felt was replaced with a strong wave of fear sweeping over me.
No!
This can’t be happening.
I can’t be feeling this way for someone I met barely few months ago.
It was more heart-shattering knowing that I actually wanted it.
I felt disgusted.
Moon goddess shouldn’t be punishing me this way.
I shouldn’t feel this way for another man who isn’t Killian, why does the moon goddess enjoy punishing me so brutally? Why does she bless me with something good and then end up taking it back away from me? Why does it feel like she doesn’t want to see me stable and happy?
I quickly withdrew my hand from his and recoiled back in the bed.
“Darius, please, I can’t do this now,” I breathed out in a low voice, I could barely hear myself. I was overcome by the extremely complicated situation hovering around me.
The warm smile never left his face despite my display of displeasure.
“It’s totally fine Elena, don’t beat yourself up, we will definitely find a way around this,” he tried to reassure me.
“You are my mate Darius and I’m pregnant for another man, how can we ever find a way around it?” I panicked.
“It’s complicated I know, but it isn’t what we can’t fix,” he smiled.
I wondered how he is so cool about this. It was already weighing me down already and here he was, being so cool about it.
“Listen to me… ” he tried to hold my hands but I flinched back in fright.
I could see pain flash through his eyes as I shifted away from him, but he tried to mask it.
I felt bad seeing him that way but I had no control over the situation at this point.
“Elena, you are taking this too seriously and it’s harmful to your condition,” he said calmly.
“Listen, we are going to get through this, it’s only a matter of time,”
“And I’m willing to wait till whenever until we finally get things right, no pressure.”
My heart thumped hard on my chest as his words slipped into my ears, wondering why he’s so good.
