MAEVE HAWTHORN.
His eyes were fiery and red with obvious rage, it was clear that nothing I said would get him to spend one more minute in the room.
“Every single one of them is going to die.” He said through gritted teeth as he walked. The air around him was so cold that it sent chills running down my spine.
This is the exact state that I do not want to see Enzo De-Luca in because when he’s like this then there’s no telling what he’s going to do.
There’s no telling what he’s capable of. I shook when I looked down to see Levi bleeding profusely, his blood was all over my hand.
The sound of the door slamming told me that Enzo had walked out already, “there’s no time! I need the first aid box and a bottle of vodka.” I ordered the men who sprung into action.
“I also need someone to call an ambulance!” I added and it didn’t take long for all of them to start doing as I’d said.
I’ve never seen so much blood before and the sight of it right now was sending me over the edge. My stomach was clenched tight, my mind a mixture of fear and sadness.
What’s going to happen? What if they’re too much for only him to handle?
I know he has his men with him but I just couldn’t help but imagine the worst case scenario and with each thought that crossed my mind, I felt an even greater fear.
“He-” Levi groaned, he had opened his eyes now and my hand was still pressed on his wound to keep the pressure on, He’s going to be fine.” He winced.
I wanted to believe him but there was no way I could do that. I was shivering profusely because this wasn’t how I’d imagined I’d spend the rest of the day.
Taking in a deep breath, I tried to keep my mind focused on treating Levi’s wounds before the ambulance would get here but no matter how much I tried, my head was blank.
I wanted to be with him no matter how dangerous it was. I agreed to this, I shouldn’t have let him go on his own when I could’ve followed him.
“The Ambulance is right outside and waiting for you.” A voice jolted me out of my thoughts and I sprung to my feet at once as the men carried Levi.
He’s the only person I know Enzo was willing to go into rage mode for, the only person that can make Enzo burn an entire city down and not only is he hurt, he’s eyes are closed and not opening.
Before the ambulance could get out of my sight, I got into an available car with Enzo’s men in the car behind me and we all followed the ambulance.
If I can’t be with Enzo in the battlefront then I can take care of his best friend, that’s the only responsibility he gave to me before leaving.
Speaking of best friends, I really should call Scarlett and let her know that I’m fine.
It took a while but we finally got to the hospital and I watched as the nurses all rushed outside to take Levi into the ER.
Sheer black fright washed through me when they closed the door, denying me and the men access to go in with them.
Enzo’s men were unusually calm while I was losing my mind. Unable to remain in one spot, I paced around with my nails in my mouth.
I don’t want to know what’s going to happen to Enzo if he comes back to his dead best friend. The mere thought of it rendered me immobile as I impatiently waited.
“How is he? Is he okay?!” I asked a doctor that came out of the OR they’d taken Levi into but he outrightly ignored me, walking past me like he hadn’t heard me ask him questions.
I waited around again, hoping that things were going fine and although I tried to convince myself that everything would be fine, there’s a bile at the back of my throat and my blood filled hands that kept convincing me otherwise.
My breath caught in my throat as I felt my heart pounding, the nagging feeling in the back of my mind refused to be stilled and even though I was trying to keep hopes alive, there was a voice telling me that something had gone terribly wrong.
Nurses and doctors rushed in and out of the OR and I couldn’t keep calm because every one of them acted like they couldn’t see me.
“HOW IS HE?!” I yelled, causing the last doctor that ignored me to stop in his tracks. I was done being calm because my nerves were making it really hard for me.
“Madam, this is a hospital and you cannot-”
“I don’t care if this is a hospital or a cemetery!” I snapped, biting my tongue as I looked the doctor dead in the eyes, “I asked a question and I demand an answer!” I added.
“How. Is. Levi?” I questioned, the doctor raised an eyebrow and I had no idea where I got the courage from but I pulled him into me with his lab coat.
“The man in there? How is he because I swear if anything happens to him, not only are you going to lose your license but you’re going to live begging for your life to end and-”
“His condition is stable,” the doctor replied, fear stark and vivid shone in his eyes as he looked at me, “there are still some procedures we need to do and that’s why he’s not out of there yet.” He added.
“Okay, good,” I sighed, letting go of his lab coat, “you see to it that he lives, okay?!” I barked, the doctor nodded before sprinting out of my sight.
My hands were shaking, my ass was very sweaty but I felt a hint of satisfaction and relief after that. I could feel the men’s eyes on me but I ignored them.
After waiting for another five hours, a doctor came out and finally came to meet me to give me an update on Levi’s health.
“He’s fine now, he had lots of injuries and gunshot wounds, he’s lucky you were able to administer first aid before the ambulance arrived.” The doctor started.
“Where is he now? Can I see him?” I asked, Levi and I haven’t even really had a proper conversation and this isn’t the way I thought I was going to be able to talk to Enzo’s best friend but shit happens.
“You can see him but he’s sleeping now and it would be good for him if you don’t disturb him for now. Due to the Anesthesia, he needs a good rest.” The doctor finished.
“Thank you, doctor. Thanks a lot.” I sighed, that’s one thing to cross off the list of things that’s making me extremely nervous.
Making my way into the ward he was in, Levi was sleeping peacefully although there were an awful lot of plasters and bandages around him.
“Hmm.” He groaned, turning around. The doctor had said that he needed to rest a lot and he’ll be out of it because of the anesthesia, so how come he’s awake now.
“Are you okay? Does it hurt anywhere?” I asked, trying my best to make him feel comfortable but he only managed to shake his head.
I stayed in the room with Levi on the bed, my heart pounding and the tension so thick that I could barely breathe and if anyone had a scissor, they’d be able to cut through it.
Searching my mind for something to say, I couldn’t think of anything other than, “are you hungry?” Levi laughed although the sound was monotonic.
“No, I’m good. Thank you,” he groaned, “Enzo’s not back yet?” He asked and I shook my head as I sat on the chair right by the bed.
“I’m worried about him, it’s been more than seven hours now and he’s not back.” I confessed, Levi’s eyes were glued on me as he cleared his throat.
“He’s going to be fine,” He finally spoke after staring at me for a while and almost making me uncomfortable, “Enzo is not the kind of man to be easily taken down, he’s going to come back to you in one piece.” He winced.
“You shouldn’t talk much, you should be resting.” I told him but Levi didn’t seem to care as he only chucked. This is probably the most time I’ve spent with him.
“Enzo is a very dangerous man,” Levi started after a while of silence, “He’s been through a lot in the past that makes him the cold bastard he is right now but I’m sure you’ve figured out that he’s a good person.”
I remained silent, this man should be sleeping or focusing more on recovering but he’d made it his mission to talk to me about Enzo even though it’s not the right time.
Without saying anything, I listened as Levi told me vague things about Enzo that I didn’t know. Listening to him talk made me want to know more but I wanted Enzo to be the one to tell me these things.
Levi must have figured it out because he stopped talking, his eyes fixed above him as he smiled before turning his head to face me.
“I’m glad he’s coming around you now, he’s giving himself the chance to feel,” Levi sighed, “I was always worried about him and sometimes I wonder how his life would be if something happened to me and Yvette.” He laughed.
“I know I shouldn’t be saying this considering the fact that we haven’t had a proper conversation yet.” Levi continued.
“But I have a request and I’ll be happy if your response was positive.” He paused, his eyes were starting to close but he was struggling to keep them open.
“What’s that? I’ll do it if it’s within my power.” I assured him.
“It’s within your power,” he replied, his voice low, “I know Enzo is not the best man out there but I know he’s a really good man, I want you to make a promise to me, his best friend, that you’d keep loving him even when he’s being really hard to love.”
“And how do you know I love him right now?”
“Your eyes, Maeve. Your eyes,” Levi answered, “No one has ever looked at him like you do or have that glint in their eyes when they mention his name, it’s mostly always terror.” He laughed.
There’s no lie, even his maids and men barely mention his name. Everyone is so scared of him.
“You’re the only one that can convince him that he deserves to be loved and I want you to show him that he deserves it.”
