Kael
David stepped forward, observing Lucian for a moment.
At that moment, Frederick arrived as well. When he learned that Lucian was the werewolf from that night-and that he might have become one after being attacked by another werewolf-his shock was palpable.
“So, does this mean there’s more than one werewolf in town? Or that this werewolf might create even more of them?” Frederick speculated.
I nodded, feeling a deep frustration.
Damn it. So now the town might be crawling with werewolves?
They’ve concealed their presence so well that we can’t detect them at all.
It’s like they’ve become ticking time bombs, and no one knows when they’ll go off.
I frowned. I couldn’t help but feel worried.
Frederick patted me on the shoulder. “Kael, I know what you’re worried about. We don’t even know which pack these werewolves belong to. If someone’s controlling them to destroy this town, I’m already investigating.”
“And what about him?” I pointed at Lucian, lying unconscious on the hospital bed. “Are we just going to let him stay a werewolf?”
“We’ll restrain him, at least until he wakes up. Then, maybe we can get some useful information from him.”
I sat by Lucian’s bedside, quietly waiting.
I needed to hear the truth from Lucian as soon as he woke up.
At that moment, my phone rang. It was Seraphina.
I knew she must be worried about me.
“Kael, are you okay?” Her voice was filled with concern.
“I’m fine. Don’t worry about me.”
“Did you catch the werewolf?”
“Yes.”
“Who is he?”
I glanced at Lucian, still unconscious on the bed, and finally said, “I don’t know.”
“Alright. You must have things to handle tonight. Take care of it,” Seraphina said softly before hanging up.
I could sense the sadness in her tone.
I knew why she was upset.
It was probably because I’d broken my promise to her-again.
Thinking about it, I punched Lucian hard in the chest.
Even though he was still unconscious, his brow furrowed, and he let out a faint groan.
David rushed over to stop me. “Kael, calm down. You can’t kill him now, at least not before we’ve questioned him.”
“I know.”
I had no intention of killing Lucian. But the thought of how he’d ruined what could have been a perfect evening made my chest tighten with anger.
Seraphina must be heartbroken too.
When things escalated earlier tonight, even my wolf had started to lose control.
But Lucian’s sudden appearance forced me to stop everything.
And I couldn’t tell Seraphina that Lucian had become a werewolf.
If she found out, it would shatter her.
She would worry about Lucian.
As a man, jealousy burned fiercely within me. I envied the pure love she once shared with Lucian.
Now that Seraphina was with me, I would never let her know about Lucian.
After all, didn’t Seraphina claim she hated Lucian as well?
But the fact that Lucian, even in his irrational state as a werewolf, instinctively sought out Seraphina…
It proved that she still held a special place in his heart.
I turned to look at Lucian’s sleeping face, struggling to hold myself back from hitting him again.
Damn him. How could he have hurt Seraphina like that? She’s so beautiful, so kind.
That’s why she’s so afraid of starting a new relationship now.
She’s lost all the courage to love again.
And with the identity I carry, it only makes it harder for her to accept me.
Our path to love is riddled with obstacles.
I stayed in the hospital room, waiting for Lucian to wake up.
Then Frederick said, “Kael, you know him, don’t you?”
I nodded.
“You still need to maintain your human identity out there. If he finds out you’re a werewolf and you don’t kill him, I’m worried others will soon discover your secret too.”
“What are you suggesting?”
“Stop waiting for him. Let me question him. Once I get the answers, I’ll let you know.”
I saw Lucian beginning to stir and nodded, turning to leave.
I couldn’t kill Lucian. Even though he was now a werewolf, killing him would make him a permanent part of Seraphina’s memories.
I didn’t want that.
Seraphina belonged to me. Even her memories should be filled with only me.
I left the questioning to Frederick and headed straight to find Seraphina.
When I arrived at her apartment, she was already asleep in bed.
She was curled up under the blanket, her head completely covered, looking like a small, abandoned animal.
I slipped out of my clothes and slid under the blanket beside her.
The movement startled her awake. She opened her eyes wide, staring at me. “Why are you here?”
“Of course, I had to come. How else would I know you were so upset about me not being with you tonight?” I pressed myself against her, kissing her lips.
I wanted to devour her completely. My kisses were rough and urgent.
By the time I let her go, she was gasping for air, her face flushed from the lack of oxygen.
Her bright eyes shimmered in the dim light.
“Seraphina, you’re so beautiful,” I couldn’t help but marvel at her.
She smiled. “You’re handsome too, Kael.”
“I forgot to give you something.”
I sat up, pulled a golden trophy from my bag, and handed it to her.
Her eyes widened in disbelief.
“For me?”
“Yes. The club wanted me to leave it there for display, but I think it belongs somewhere better.”
I held her close.
Seraphina cradled the trophy, her fingers gently brushing over its surface.
Her careful touch filled my heart with sweetness, like it was bursting with candy.
“But Kael, I know how hard this competition was for you. Are you sure you want to give it to me?”
“Of course. Seraphina, it’s precisely because it was so hard-earned that giving it to you makes it truly valuable.”
I ran my hands over her, basking in her joy. Her happiness made me feel complete.
Just then, my phone rang. It was Frederick.
It must be about Lucian.
I let go of Seraphina and answered the call.
“Kael, someone gave him a potion, told him it would make him stronger, so he took it. But he doesn’t know who gave it to him,” Frederick said.
“You’re saying the werewolf became one because of the potion?” Seraphina turned to look at me.
I was surprised she could hear my conversation with Frederick.
