Chapter 980: Even He is Plotting

Book:Married The Day We Met Published:2025-3-24

At the same time, the Ylosea Morning Post entered the printing press, with the headline prominently announcing the marriage alliance between the Oconnor family and the Ellison family. Today, Mrs. Oconnor would truly change hands, leaving no room for other speculations.
For the wedding today, most of the Oconnor family had arrived and were heading to the hotel. To Callie, it was evident that they preferred the eldest daughter of the Ellison family to be the future mistress of the Oconnor family.
Paucaster Villa felt particularly desolate. The styling team was blocked outside and couldn’t get in. In the end, Anthony had no choice but to call Bridger. When Bridger arrived, he found Nelson sitting on the floor smoking, leaning against the sofa, with a large floor-to-ceiling window reflecting his lonely and desolate profile.
Bridger was slightly startled, “Nelson, today is the wedding.”
Nelson didn’t move, his breath heavy as he stared at the burning cigarette between his fingers.
Bridger didn’t dare to urge him, so he sat beside him, waiting for him to respond.
After a long time, with the sun rising outside, a glimmer of light fell into Nelson’s eyes. He squinted slightly, “You had a wedding with Marely. How did it feel?”
Caught off guard by the question, Bridger stammered a bit, somewhat nonchalant, “It was different for me and her. It was a means to an end, didn’t feel much.”
After saying this, he realized that Nelson and Charlotte were no different.
“I promised to give Callie a wedding but couldn’t fulfill it.”
Now he was about to marry another woman.
His upturned eyes were tinged with red, filled with endless regret.
Bridger hesitated for a moment, then placed his hand on Nelson’s shoulder, giving it a pat. The brotherly bond needed no words.
“Callie knows. She will understand.”
But she had already understood him too many times. Even after their divorce, she was still entangled in this mess, her life hanging by a thread. Just thinking about it made Nelson’s heart ache.
“What did Mollie say?”
“At first, she didn’t want to talk. Later she knew Callie was missing and then agreed to speak.” Bridger took out a note. “She just said we should find Joaquin; maybe he could help.”
The note had a phone number written on it.
Nelson squinted his eyes. “Give it to Anthony.”
He stubbed out his cigarette and stood up as the styling team quickly came in to start preparations.
Anthony took the note and left in a hurry with Kieran to find clues.
They brushed past a Mercedes on the street. Inside the car, a man leaned against his hand and softly instructed, “Send a team to follow them.”
“Yes, Jamir!”
Afterward, Jamir flipped his phone and made a call. The person on the other end answered but didn’t speak.
“Where is Callie?” he asked directly.
The person on the other end was momentarily stunned by his cold voice. “… I haven’t found out. Charlotte hasn’t been anywhere except with the Ellison family.”
“The Ellison family… then she must be there.” Jamir sneered. “Find a way to look for her. Charlotte will go to extremes; Callie can’t die.”
The person didn’t agree immediately. After a while, Jamir said in a deep voice, “Regan?”
“… And then? If Callie comes out, she will eventually take back everything that belongs to her. What about what you want then?”
Jamir leaned back in his seat and pressed his temples. “As long as Nelson marries Charlotte, she won’t be able to do anything. Right now, I need to ensure her safety.”
“It’s very risky.”
“Regan, you talk too much. I don’t like it.”
Regan was silent for a moment before saying, “If Callie finds out that even you are plotting against her, she will hate you.”
Hate… The word made Jamir’s heart clench. “Everything I’m doing is for her own good. Nelson will eventually lose everything; he’s not her good choice.”
“Then who is? You?”
Regan paused and then apologized. “I’ll look for her.” Then he hung up.
