When Nelson arrived, Charlotte was directing the crowd, looking exhausted but excited. Sienna was also present, accompanying her.
“Sienna,” Nelson nodded, showing no emotion.
Sienna looked him up and down and then nodded meaningfully. “I’m glad you came. Maeve will be happy too.”
Nelson glanced over and said calmly, “It’s my duty.”
However, his tone suggested he was merely handling a business matter, devoid of much feeling.
Sienna stood beside him. “I watched you grow up.”
“Of course.”
“Then listen to my advice. Some things and people should be let go. At this point, a blessing in disguise might be waiting. Maeve is not bad,” Sienna said meaningfully.
Nelson pressed his lips together, not responding. At that moment, Charlotte spotted him and ran over with a delighted expression. “Nelson, you got here so quickly.”
Nelson’s expression remained indifferent as he placed a large hand on her head. “I couldn’t let you worry alone.”
Charlotte beamed with happiness and pulled him forward. “Let me show you the process. Tomorrow we will walk this path together.”
Sienna watched the two young people from behind, her smile faint. Just then, someone whispered something in her ear. Her expression changed as she glanced at Nelson’s back before leaving. “Let’s talk outside.”
Nelson rarely showed such patience. He accompanied Charlotte through most of the process, making her extremely happy.
“Why do you keep smiling at me like that?” He took the water handed by a waiter and opened the bottle for her.
“You look good, Nelson. I’ve never felt this happy before. You’re about to become my husband,” Charlotte said openly.
“Are you happy that I’m becoming your husband?”
“Of course.”
“But there are many negative comments out there. They say I’m divorced and not good enough for you,” he said calmly.
“I’ve never thought that way.” Charlotte threw herself into Nelson’s arms. “To me, you just took a wrong path. I love you; what’s there not to accept?”
She looked up. “And I don’t think your previous marriage is a disgrace. Miss Marsh was a good person.”
Nelson stared into her eyes, finding no trace of insincerity.
He was silent for a moment before smiling slightly. “You are considerate.”
Charlotte’s smile grew even brighter.
“By the way, will Marilyn come tomorrow?”
He suddenly asked, causing Charlotte’s smile to freeze for a moment. “She doesn’t get better; she probably won’t come. Why?”
“Your brother-in-law, who was once your boss, there’s news about him.”
Jaquan! Charlotte tried to stay calm and asked tentatively, “What news?”
“The police said his last known whereabouts before disappearing was in Anbusea. He should still be there, not far away,” Nelson said calmly, taking a sip of water. “Since Marilyn isn’t coming, convey this to her for me.”
Charlotte frowned, lost in thought. Nelson noticed and called out, “Maeve?”
Charlotte quickly snapped out of it. “Ah, okay, I’ll tell her when I get back.”
“But Nelson, given Jaquan’s situation, how many years will he get?”
“How many years? Does he still have that chance?” Nelson found it amusing. “Even as an accomplice, he’d start with at least twenty years.”
Charlotte’s pupils contracted slightly.
