Rosalind woke up to find the man beside her missing.
It was already seven in the morning. Normally, at this time, Ulric would be at the desk handling business matters, but now…
He wasn’t in the hospital room.
Rosalind got up to look for him, but he wasn’t in the doctor’s office or in the hospital corridor either.
Returning to the room to get her phone, she called Ulric, only to hear his phone ringing inside the room.
He hadn’t taken his phone with him…
It was very strange.
“Dr. Stewart! Have you seen Ulric?”
As she went out again to look for him, she ran into Rebecca.
Rebecca shook her head, saying, “No. Isn’t he in the room?”
“He was gone when I woke up.”
“Well… maybe you should check the surveillance room. If he left the hospital, he would have had to go through the main entrance or the back door.”
Rosalind nodded. “That’s all I can do.”
In Sweden, besides calling Ulric, there wasn’t much else she could do to find him!
Just as Rosalind was heading toward the surveillance room, she heard Rebecca call out from behind her, “Ms. Ruell! Mr. Walters is at the entrance!”
She turned back and looked down from upstairs. Sure enough, Ulric’s figure appeared at the hospital’s main entrance.
“Thank you!”
Rosalind hurried down the stairs, wanting to ask Ulric what happened and why he left the hospital so early in the morning!
Earlier upstairs, she couldn’t see clearly.
As Rosalind ran down and saw Ulric up close, she was startled.
His face was deathly pale, and his thin lips had lost their color. He looked so sickly as if he might collapse at any moment.
“Ulric, what… what happened?”
Instinctively, she ran towards Ulric, but he stepped back.
“I’m fine.”
When he spoke, his voice was hoarse beyond recognition.
Rosalind furrowed her brows and looked up at him. “Did you leave in the middle of the night?”
If he had just left in the morning for an hour or two, Ulric wouldn’t look like this!
“I’m tired and want to go back and rest for a while.”
Ulric rarely avoided meeting Rosalind’s gaze. It could even be said that he was avoiding her. He walked past her with big strides.
He had never acted like this before.
Rosalind took a deep breath and quickly caught up with him, grabbing his sleeve. “Ulric, wait!”
Although he walked fast, feeling her touch made him stop instinctively. He was afraid that moving forward might cause Rosalind to fall.
“What happened? Tell me!” She bit her lips anxiously.
She tried to read something from Ulric’s expression but couldn’t because he wouldn’t look up at her.
“Nothing. I just went out for a walk.”
“From midnight until now?” Rosalind stepped forward to embrace him when she suddenly caught a whiff of blood.
Because he wore a black coat, it wasn’t immediately visible.
“Hmm, I lost track of time.”
Ulric replied in a low voice.
“No, I smell blood on you.” Rosalind gripped his coat firmly. Dried bloodstains flaked off into her palm-a deep red color.
Ulric pursed his lips tightly as he pulled away his coat before quickening his pace further.
Rosalind didn’t understand but could only run after him. “Ulric! You promised you’d never lie to me. What did you do? Why… why is there blood on your clothes?”
He paused slightly as he turned his face. “Rosalind, don’t touch me. I’m dirty.”
