Jaden saw Sierra crying so sorrowfully and couldn’t help but comfort her, “Don’t be too sad. No matter what, we will find a way to rescue the child.”
At that moment, a girl hurried over, holding a box in her hand.
“Sierra, Sierra!”
“What’s wrong?” Sierra’s eyes were red from crying. She wiped her tears and looked at the girl. “What happened?”
“A little beggar brought this box. I asked who sent him, but he wouldn’t say. He just left the box and ran away.” The girl handed the box to Sierra.
Sierra gently opened it and found Alex’s name tag inside. Her hands trembled as she picked up the name tag, and tears streamed down her face again. “They took Alex! It must be them who took Alex!”
“There’s a note underneath.” Jaden’s sharp eyes noticed a piece of paper. He reached out to grab it, but Sierra’s hand also reached out at the same time, and their hands touched.
Feeling the softness of her hand, he quickly pulled his hand back in surprise.
Sierra also retracted her hand awkwardly.
The atmosphere became a bit awkward.
In the end, Jaden picked up the note, his ears slightly red. He opened it and read softly, “If you want your son’s life, have Sylvia bring one hundred million dollars in three days. Do not call the police!”
“Why do they want Miss Andrews to bring one hundred million dollars?” Sierra’s eyes were bloodshot, and she looked shocked. “So, they are targeting Miss Andrews?”
“Most likely.” Jaden nodded. “We need to inform Sylvia about this.”
“But… she just told me that her grandmother is having surgery and she might not be able to leave temporarily.” Sierra looked at Jaden sadly. “If it comes to it, I’ll gather the ransom first and go in place of Miss Andrews. Even if it costs me my life, I don’t care.”
“Should we call the police?” Adeline bit her lip and asked softly, “Isn’t calling the police more appropriate?”
“They said not to call the police…” Sierra hesitated. “Jaden, what do you think?”
“Let’s see what Sylvia says.” Jaden said as he called Sylvia and sent her a photo of the note.
“Is it really a kidnapping?” Sylvia felt a surge of inexplicable anger in her chest. “I will contact Isabelle and Darius. They will send people to assist you. It’s more useful than calling the police.”
“Okay, Sylvia.” Jaden nodded. “Can you come in three days?”
Sylvia nodded. “I’ll try my best. You investigate who had the audacity to kidnap my godson. I won’t let them get away with it!”
After hanging up, Sylvia looked at Dr. Jakobe. “Let’s do the surgery tomorrow. I have something to attend to in Middle Evroya the day after tomorrow.”
“If we’re doing the surgery tomorrow, I’ll make arrangements now.” Dr. Jakobe agreed immediately.
After the surgery, there would be a twenty-four-hour observation and danger period, so Sylvia wanted to stay with Queena during the surgery.
She went directly to the ward and informed Clare and Franklin about the surgery arrangements.
So much had happened in just one day that she looked a bit tired.
Now that surgery was imminent, she could only choose less stimulating words to tell Queena. “Grandma, there’s a benign tumor in your body that may need to be surgically removed. Don’t worry; this surgery is very safe.”
Queena smiled and held her hand, looking at her with loving eyes. “Sylvia, I had already guessed that something might be wrong with my body. You all avoided talking about it, but I’m not foolish. I know you were trying to protect me, afraid of upsetting me. But I’m not as fragile as you think. No matter what illness it is, I’m not afraid.”
“Grandma…” Sylvia looked at her in a daze.
“I just didn’t expect my Sylvia to be so considerate and caring for me.” Queena then looked at Clare and Franklin, and Isaac who hadn’t left yet. “When I get better, I still want to go hiking!”
Seeing that she had no psychological burden, Sylvia nodded. “Alright. I’ll go with you then.”
“Dr. Sylvia, the drug test report is out.” A young nurse walked in with a report and handed it to Sylvia. “The drug indeed has issues; it contains substances similar to stimulants and nitrous oxide. If the old lady had used it…”
“I understand.” Sylvia took the report and looked at it. “Mixing nitrous oxide with stimulants in medication is ridiculous! Who could come up with such a nasty trick?”
“Nitrous oxide? I think I’ve heard of that term.” Isaac frowned. “It’s addictive and harmful to health; it’s considered a new type of drug.”
After speaking, he glared angrily at Franklin. “Franklin, how could you add such harmful substances to the medication? What good would it do you if something happened to Grandma?”
“I’ll say it again; I didn’t do it.” Franklin’s face was cold as he looked sharply at Isaac.
“I have nothing to hide. Hurting Grandma wouldn’t benefit me at all. Sylvia and I have a deep relationship, and Grandma has always cared for me. Why would I harm her? On the other hand, you’ve always tried to sabotage my relationship with Sylvia. Who knows if you arranged this?”
Isaac sneered slightly. “That’s absurd! Why would I harm Grandma? Besides, I caught you adding things to the medicine!”
“Stop arguing.” Sylvia interrupted them impatiently. “I’ve already checked the surveillance footage. Although it was tampered with during that time period, I’ve recovered the data.”
“I’ve sent the surveillance video to each of your phones; watch it yourselves. Also, I’ll find out the truth and won’t wrong anyone.”
Isaac didn’t expect Sylvia to act so quickly and investigate thoroughly. He hurriedly opened his phone and saw the surveillance video she had just sent.
The video clearly showed a male nurse in a white uniform entering the room, quickly adding something to the medicine before leaving hastily.
Franklin was standing outside and didn’t notice him entering the ward until he left when Franklin checked the medicine.
At that moment, Isaac walked in.
Queena and Clare also watched the surveillance video together. She said earnestly, “See? It wasn’t Franklin who did it. So there’s no need for you brothers to argue over this matter anymore; finding out who that male nurse is should be our priority.”
“Mom is right; I’m already investigating who that male nurse is. But according to the hospital, there’s no one matching his description because he’s very tall, unlike any of our male nurses.”
Clare sighed. “It’s obvious he was disguised as a nurse.”
“But why did he enter right after Franklin left? Maybe Franklin was covering for him.” Isaac persisted in blaming Franklin.
“Isaac, can you stop? You’re making me feel annoyed like you’re a nagging woman rather than someone I consider a brother.” Sylvia’s emotions finally broke down after holding back all day.
Her face showed a hint of coldness. “Or are you possessed? Taken over? You’re older than Franklin by a few years; can’t you be more mature?”
Isaac forced an awkward smile, feeling shocked.
He had been too eager for success and revealed his true nature.
Damn…
He had always maintained a perfect big brother image in front of Sylvia…
He quickly tried to salvage it. “Sylvia, I was just anxious and spoke without thinking; I didn’t mean anything else.”
Sylvia’s expression remained cold. “Isaac, you should go back first. Neither you nor Franklin should interfere in this matter; my uncle and I will investigate it thoroughly.”
Hearing Sylvia’s dismissal order, Isaac had no choice but to leave.
The ward became much quieter after Isaac left.
After a while, Clare broke the silence. “Actually… his anxious behavior makes it seem like he did it. Sylvia, there’s no evidence yet; it’s just my guess. I know you’ve always been close like siblings.”
“If he really did it, I won’t show him any mercy.” Sylvia’s eyes flashed with determination.
She now understood that Isaac wanted the presidential position, so he was challenging Franklin.
The president had many illegitimate children; who would ultimately get the position was uncertain.
However, many favored Franklin.
“This matter doesn’t need further discussion for now. Until we have results, everything is speculation.” Franklin chuckled softly. “Thank you for trusting me.”
The Hipps Family’s trust warmed his heart because he knew it was because of Sylvia.
“You all should go back; Clare can stay with me.” Queena urged them to leave. “You’ve had a long day; I don’t need too many people here.”
Hearing this, Sylvia left with Franklin.
They went straight back to Franklin’s private villa.
As soon as they got home, Sylvia made a video call to Jaden.
“How is the child? Any news?”
Jaden wiped sweat from his forehead. “Sylvia, not yet. We’re currently searching for the beggar who delivered the message.”
