Lucas’s POV
I called a meeting with the men that came with my sister so that we could try to solve this case without involving her. It is dangerous for her to get involved in things like this. Since they already tried to abduct her, there will be more attempts in the future, and I want her to be safe, even though she thinks I’m being stupid for defending them.
I’m not defending them because I think they are right about what they did, but because I may still need them in the future to uncover the mastermind behind all of this. The only way I can do this is to see them as righteous people.
“Is there anything in particular you want to talk about, Alpha?” Nathan asked me rudely.
I moved closer to him. “Are you trying to be rude, or what?”
“I’m not trying to be rude, but doesn’t it count when you were also rude to us in the first place? How could you disregard our words and blame us for trying to tell you that there could be spies in your pack? That is the reason your father isn’t getting well in the first place!”
“I don’t think it’s in your place to tell me what to do about my pack. I will worry about them, and you should worry about yours. I’m only calling you all here because I thought we could have a cooperation, but if you don’t think so, you can stop and leave as soon as you can,” I said, getting serious.
Even though I wanted cooperation with them, I didn’t want to do it if they thought I was incompetent. Therefore, they could just get out of here. But because they were all here for my sister, I didn’t think they would be able to leave immediately. They would probably do what I wanted.
“I think we should take it easy here and relax. I apologize for my brother’s rudeness, Alpha,” Xavier apologized.
I took a seat again to talk to them about the situation. I needed their help in suppressing whoever was behind this. Since they were already here, they might as well do something useful other than following my sister around.
“I’m calling you here because I need your help in uncovering the truth about the recent happenings. I don’t want my sister to know about this. This is why I am having this meeting with you instead, without her presence.”
“But don’t you think she should be here if we are going to talk about her? This involves her, and she needs to take precautions. If we can give suggestions on what to do, then she will be fine on her own, right?” Rolex suggested.
“I know you’re speaking the truth, but you have to see it from my point of view. My sister is a bit impatient and immature from what I’ve seen so far. She might get herself into danger. You know what she is and why she can’t be out there easily.”
“Then do you have the whereabouts of the person involved in this? I heard you’ve been torturing the kidnapper, but nothing has been heard from him. Are you sure he’s going to tell the truth?” Nathan questioned me again.
I didn’t want to keep dealing with him, as the task before me was more important than arguing about who was right or wrong.
I tried to calm myself down. “I’m not going to argue with you over this. We are still interrogating the suspect, and we will find out where he came from. This has to do with our pack, so we’ll handle it ourselves.”
“But this has to do with our mate. Do you think we should lend you a hand in torturing them so that we can get an answer quickly?”
“Mia is my sister. As far as I’m concerned, I have the most right to decide how to protect her,” I made my authority clear.
He didn’t say anything else because he knew he had no authority over this kind of situation. My sister hates them a lot, and I’m the one who has been trying to get her to talk to them. If I decide to step in again and change my sister’s mind, then they won’t be able to do anything with her anymore. I don’t know why he’s being arrogant with me.
“What do you suggest we do now? We were already protecting her before, so we will try to make sure no one tries to hurt her again. But how are you going to find the person behind this?” Sean asked.
“I’m calling for a joint investigation and trying to use all the resources we have together so that we can find this person,” I suggested.
“A joint investigation sounds like a good thing, but don’t you think the culprit is already someone we know? I mean, take your cousin, for example-”
“I’m not going to tolerate your rudeness anymore. Even though he tried to deceive my sister, he hasn’t done anything to hurt her, so you shouldn’t-”
He scoffed. “Are you going to wait until he does something to hurt her before you understand the gravity of the situation? Are you just stupid, or pretending to be stupid? Because I don’t know what exactly you’re all about.”
I clenched my fists. “My sister’s business is my business. I think you should know your place around here and stop causing trouble!”
“Why are you having a meeting about me without me?” I suddenly heard my sister’s voice from nowhere.
We all turned around to see her standing at the door with a smile on her face. She looked kind of disappointed in us. I thought she was in her room resting after giving out her blood again. I didn’t expect her to come here at this time.
If I had known she would be here, I would have shifted the meeting to another time or somewhere else where she wouldn’t be able to come.
“Why aren’t you guys saying anything? You are hosting a meeting about me, and no one decided to invite me? Do you all take me for a fool or something? This is making me so angry! I need an explanation right now!” she demanded from me.
What explanation am I going to give her now?
