Kayla
It was only a day away from Asher and I felt like my whole world was crumbling. I felt like I had no reason to live like I had nothing to look forward to. I miss him so much that I was beginning to doubt if I did the right thing by leaving. Should I have fought for him? Should I have stayed and waited for him to finally accept me? I felt like a loser, an incompetent bridge card that couldn’t take a trick.
I didn’t like the fact that I had given up and left him for Emily. She doesn’t deserve him. She didn’t look like someone who was deeply in love with Asher.
I brushed back the locks of hair that carelessly stuck to my face, and rested my head against the wooden bed frame. It was as if my thoughts were spinning in circles. I couldn’t decide whether or not I made the right decision to leave.
Should the right decision hurt so much? Would the right decision make me feel like a greater part of me was fading away? I couldn’t even imagine death being this painful.
I shut my eyes closed, and still, those treacherous tears managed to sneak past the jammed gate of my eyes, rolling down my cheeks. I couldn’t remember crying as much as I did between yesterday and today. I wiped my tears. I just couldn’t control my emotions every time I thought about him and knowing we couldn’t be together, felt like a stab in my heart.
I sighed and got off the bed. If I continue staying alone in this chamber, I won’t be able to take my mind off, Asher. I need to focus on something else. I picked up a towel and moved to the bathroom.
After showering and trying my best not to look like I had been crying the entire night. I left my chamber and made my way down the stairs.
I followed the drone of voices and found everyone seated in the Andron. My sisters along with their mates and Davies were seated on the couch facing each other and they seemed to be in a deep discussion. Whatever it was, it seemed to be very important that none of them noticed my presence. There was this worried look on each of their faces and my sisters looked like they had received a death sentence.
What exactly was happening? Everyone seemed alright yesterday. Then what could have happened to get them in this kind of mood?
“What’s wrong?” I asked, folding my hands against my chest.
All eyes turned to me and everyone tried to mask the fear on their faces but it was already too late. I had seen enough to know that something was seriously wrong. I could see the burden of anguish on their shoulders.
“It’s nothing for you to be concerned about, let’s go and fix something for you to eat,” Celia said, as she rushed to my side. But her eyes held a familiar sadness that I had seen in them the day I took her place to marry Asher.
I shook my head at her. “No. You don’t have to hide the truth from me. I am a part of this family so I have every right to know what was going on.” I prodded
Maria signed. “We have a serious problem. The council elder wolves sent us a letter.”
“How was that supposed to be a problem?” I asked, but we were interrupted when Davies’s friend Fred rushed inside sweating profusely. Everyone stared at him in confusion. What was happening? What could they be hiding from me?
“The Council of Elder Wolves is here,” Fred muttered.
“The elder wolves? What are they doing here? And why are they the ones visiting instead of inviting us over? This must be a very serious issue.” I whispered
Fred shrugged his shoulders. “I have no idea. They don’t usually come to visit unless it is a matter of urgency. It’s only a few seconds before they barge in here.”
“I think it has to do with the letter they sent, demanding to see the Wright family on the next full moon night. It’s not yet the appointed time so what could they be doing here?” Davies said, clenched his jaw, and pulling his eyes away from me.
“We have to go outside and meet them. The women should stay inside while the men would go outside and find out what they are here for?” Marco instructed.
Maria shook her head as fast as Celia had done. “No, we are coming. We are a family so we will stick together.”
Marco sighed and accepted Maria’s words.”Please don’t say or do anything that could put you in harm’s way.” He warned.
“When do I ever do that?” She asked, pretending to be hurt.
He shook his head and we all walked out of the door. The council members were already gathered outside the gate with a bunch of warriors. If they brought this many warriors then they were definitely not here for something good. Whatever it was, they expected a fight to get it.
“What do we owe this uninvited visit?” Davies went straight to the point, unable to keep his frustration and rage at bay.
“From the coldness laced in your tone, it seemed that we were not welcomed here. But that’s not an issue so far our aim of coming here is achieved.” One of the elder wolves replied,
Davies creased his brows in confusion, “And what could be your aim?”
“We have come for Kayla.”
I was shocked at his words. The council came for me. Oh, Goddess, they must have found out the truth. I was stupid to think that I would stay with my family for a while when I was already tied to the council’s possession.
With my marriage with Asher being void and the alliance broken. I knew the council would try to play a silly funny move.
