ANNABELLA’S POV
” What are you doing?” I asked the minute my eyes pushed open and I pulled away from him. He let out a sigh as he pulled his hand away from my face, straightened his back, and took a step back from the bed.” Good morning.”
” Why are you here?” I asked, and a slight chuckle pulled out of his mouth. A frown settled on my face as my eyes scanned the unfamiliar room.
It wasn’t a dream; my father has indeed kidnapped me with the intention of making me Summer’s mate or, should I say, his baby-making machine?” You can’t keep me here, Roman will find me.” I said and he shook his head, his eyes looking back at me. ” Alpha Roman is already searching for you, but I doubt he will find you.” a stupid smile spread on his face, and there was nothing I wanted more than to give him a stupid punch man’s face. ” You don’t want to know how this will end,” I threatened, and he started laughing.” Believe me, I am more than interested in knowing how this will end.” He sounded different from the gentle Summer I had known for years.
He seemed more ruthless and cruel. What has your father done to him? ” Look at that, mate; I had them make it. What do you think?” I turned my gaze, and the sight made me feel a bit weird. The sudden anger slipped away as my hand went to my stomach.
A baby bed? But I immediately slipped out of my thoughts to face reality.
” I will have them make more of it and place them in the other room. I promise never to disappoint you again; I will protect you and our pups no matter what.” He sounded like a psychopath, and I felt disgusted by his presence.” I’m not your mate, alpha Summer.” over my dead body, would I allow myself to carry his pup or have anything to do with him?
I slipped out of the bed and tried to reach out to the door, but it was unfortunately locked, and before I could think of something, Summer reached out and grabbed my wrist.
” Let go of me, you will not get away with this.” he shoved me back on the bed.” I know you have always wanted to leave this pack but I promise, no one will bully you again. Not even alpha Christopher or Olivia, I will protect you.” If it was in the past, I would have been touched by his kind words, but now I knew better than to trust him. Or maybe it was because our bond was no longer active, and the only person I had in my heart was Roman.
” You are the one who rejected me, Summer!” I pushed his hand away from my face
” And I’m sorry for that, I promise to make up for everything I have done to you.”
” You can only make up for everything by getting the hell out of my life.”
” You can’t get rid of me that easily.” He said. ” You can say whatever you want but know that this is the only home for you. I’m your only mate; his mark means nothing when he can’t protect you.”
I can’t believe I was hearing this from him. After so many months he finally thought I was his mate.” You think you are in any position to call me that? Our bond is broken, it broke the moment you cheated on me with my sister.” he fucking slept with my twin sister and even chose her over me, his fated mate.
He betrayed my trust and love for power. He was nothing but a jerk who deserved to be in hell.” Do you think I wanted to cheat on you? I never wanted you to leave, but the pack needed to remain strong, and to achieve that, someone needed to be sacrificed. ” I gulped as my eyes widened with tears burning in them. Why was I surprised? Was it because he didn’t feel remorseful about it?
I shut my eyes, refusing to let my tears fall because he didn’t deserve it.
I couldn’t believe my life was this pathetic.
Someone needed to be sacrificed and he thought that person was me? How in the goddess name did I not see this side of him?
No matter what, I couldn’t let myself share a single tear because of him; the past shouldn’t matter.
” Alpha Roman didn’t ask for me and you know that.” I said, pushing back my tears, what was the point of crying over the past?
” You didn’t expect me to end up with a wolf-less she-wolf, did you?” this wasn’t the reply I was expecting to hear, but I heard it anyway.
I always thought it was my father, Olivia, who broke us apart; never did I imagine that Summer would think this way of me.
I was wolf-less but he promised to never leave me.” What about all the promises and the assurance, were they fake? Did you pretend to love and care for me too?” I didn’t know why I was asking him when the truth was crystal clear in front of me.” You told me you didn’t mind, you told me you loved me. You promised to always protect me and to never look at any other female.” I knew it was stupid to ask but I wanted to know regardless of how it would hurt.
” Do you want to know?” He stepped closer to the bed, his eyes not leaving mine. Whatever he was planning, I hoped Roman would find me on time.
” I didn’t reject you because I didn’t have an option back then, and speaking of the promises, I don’t think they are impossible to break.” He said and I found myself sucking in air.
” I thought I could manage you until Olivia came along. Choosing her was my greatest achievement, but now, I would have to break my promise to her because only you can bear me an heir.”
” It’s too bad I didn’t notice this earlier; if I knew you were the fertile one….” He bent over and grabbed my chin.” I would have kept you both.” I felt more disgusted with him than I have ever felt with anyone.” You don’t care about Olivia, do you?” I asked, and a historical laughter broke out of his mouth ” Care about Olivia?” He resumed laughing like I just asked him something funny.” You are the only one I ever cared about, Anna, but I later realized I had to choose between you and the goal to be the next alpha of the shadow pack.” his expression suddenly turned serious.
” I loved you, but my goal was more important d. Olivia was the only one who could make it possible. I bet it would have been easy for me if your wolf had come out early,” he confessed, shamelessly, and for the first time, I felt grateful for my wolf showing up late. I would have ended up with this bastard of a man who was ready to do anything to get to the top.
” I’m glad my wolf took her time.” speaking of my wolf, I have not heard from her, and that makes me wonder what kind of poison could be holding her down.
” You…” he wrapped his fingers around my neck.” Behave yourself, Anna.” he let go after a few seconds.
“I didn’t expect your father to easily agree with making you my second mate.” his hand creased my hair and I slapped it off.
” What?”
” Surprised?” he smiled.
” it was my idea to make you my second mate because I couldn’t stand seeing you with any man.” he leaned towards me and whispered the last part.
If I ever said he was a psychopath, now I think he has gone completely insane.
Did he just confess that it was his idea to kidnap me? ” Now I have you again, I can finally rule in peace and with all my strength.” his face went into my hair but I pulled back.
