ANNABELLA’S POV
I rubbed my hand on my flat belly, a look of confusion appearing in my eyes as I tried to understand what he said.
I was pregnant?
A part of me felt it too.
And I felt he wasn’t lying. Besides, Roman has never lied to me. I stared down at his phone which was still displaying the video from the restaurant.
” You are awake.” The door pushed open, and I frowned, seeing Madeline walk in.
She was holding a tray of soup and wearing this happy face that I had barely seen her with. ” You need to eat something, don’t starve yourself.” She placed the tray beside me on the bed, my hand still running my stomach in disbelief.
I was pregnant and the father was Roman!
I didn’t know what Roman, being the father, had got on me, but I felt weird inside.
” You knew?” I sighed immediately, I asked, forgetting how much she follows every one of Roman’s rules.
“It was never my place to disclose anything to you, dear. Please don’t be mad at him.” her eyes stared pleadingly at me.
” I’m the woman who raised him, I know him better than anyone.” I did t doubt that. ” Morgan Dragon was my best friend; she was such a sweet soul,” she added.
” After giving birth to him, she couldn’t live for more than a few hours because she was the first to cross boundaries. Roman was never meant to be alive, but for some reason, nature decided to take Morgan’s life in exchange for that of her son.”
I saw her eyes water.
” Roman became my son after Morgan left the earth. She entrusted him to me.” she cleaned her face. ” Roman was just caught in the middle of circumstances, Morgan and alpha Stephen were never meant to have an offspring. Nature took its course, and Roman was left in bondage until you came along. His redeemer, his second soul.” she smiled at me before turning to the other side to clean her face.
” I know you love him too, you are just confused. Please take your time. I don’t want any of you getting hurt.” she said.
Why did I feel she was more worried about Roman?
Of course, she would after all, he was like a son to her.
” Roman didn’t want to endanger your life. That is why he sent you away. For the first time, he accepted help from his grandfather; he spoke to him because of you, dear. You mean more to him than you can ever imagine.”
” I know I should have told you earlier but Roman didn’t want to make you feel guilty. He didn’t say anything to you because he was scared you wouldn’t agree to live in hiding. He was afraid, dear. Alpha Roman was scared of losing the little girl that ended in his possession by accident.” tears pooled up in my eyes.
He did that to protect me.
” But now, the alpha king will not be a bother to you or Roman. I was very scared when I found out what he was planning to do. I was tempted to tell you, but I couldn’t go against him. A mother doesn’t only look out for her child’s well-being but also his happiness. He asked me to take care of you and his pup if anything went wrong.”
The alpha king?
The room went silent, and the feeling of guilt pulled up in my throat. Is he willing to give up his own life for me? How did I not see all this?
” Where is Roman?” I have had enough of his hiding and possessiveness. He could at least tell me something instead of leaving me in the dark without a clue.
Such an asshole!
” He left to the pack hospital,” Madeline said and a deep frown covered my eyes.
” He went to visit the injured warriors,” Madeline explained, and I swallowed hard, feeling a sense of relief wash over me. “Injured warriors?”
” Yes, dear, there was a battle that was meant to claim lives; thankfully, the pack was worn.” Madeline express joyfully. ” Was that the reason why he sent me away?” I should have guessed it; one moment, he was asking me about having his pup, and the next minute, he was gone, leaving me all alone in an unknown place among strange people.
Madeline smiled and sat at the edge of the bed.” They wanted to take his mate away from him. Of course, he would fight back; an alpha can’t live without his fated mate. Roman isn’t the type of man that gives up on things he loves.”
” I’m glad it’s all over. It’s good to have you back.” She spits it out joyfully.” There is nothing to worry about anymore,” he stood up from the bed and creased my hair. ” Take care of yourself and your child.” She said and I stared down at my flat stomach with tear-filled eyes.
My eyes lifted, staring in her direction as she shut the door behind her. Did Roman go to war because of me?
I recalled the day I woke up and saw myself in that strange room and the two strange females I met.
Kane’s attempt to touch me.
I stared down at the ring he put on my finger; I didn’t dare to take it off even though it had crossed my mind many times.
I felt he betrayed me, and I was angry with him. I covered my mouth to stiffen my sob. Why did I believe in all that nonsense instead of believing in him?
Eve has always believed him, but I always had my doubts. Tears started streaming down my face, my hand still covering my mouth.
I wanted to stop crying but recalling the cold look in his eyes when he left, I didn’t know if he was angry with me or not.
I just question his loyalty, his affection, and his feelings toward me without knowing how much he has to endure to keep me safe. The rough passionate kiss we shared a while ago came running into my mind. I missed him very much, there was no doubt how much I wanted to hug him when I saw him in front of the restaurant but that bitch had to ruin everything.
I have doubted him many times, and for the countless times, he has explained himself to me. I suddenly recall my mother’s bond with my father.
She was always agreeing to whatever my father brought on board. She was always quiet about my father’s affairs and even pretended not to see them.
He treated her as nothing, but she valued him and did everything he asked for. Alphas were meant to be dominant and have whatever they wanted, including as many women as they pleased; my father would always sit.
But Roman wasn’t that way towards me. He gave me a choice in everything and always put me first, but I was too blind to see any of it.
I stepped down from the bed and walked over to the window. I wiped the hot tears from my face and crossed my arm across my chest.
I pushed my hair back as I stepped onto the balcony. ” How did I not see any other of this?” I whispered to myself in disappointment.
‘ You could have but you ignore all my words.’ Eve spoke as if I wasn’t feeling guilty enough.
I wished I had never doubted him or questioned him, but I did so many times.
I suddenly spotted his car pulling over at the packing space, I didn’t wait and ran out of the room.” Where are you going, dear?” Madeline spoke from the kitchen but I was taking the elevator down.
I ran out of the elevator as it landed on the last floor. My feet took me out, and when I reached the packing space, it was only Zack who was there. ” Luna Bella.” He greeted, my gaze traveled back to the car, but it didn’t seem to have anyone inside.
My stomach felt hot and my heart started beating violently in my chest.
” Where is Roman?” Fear engulfed me as I asked after him. Did he get angry and decided to leave me?
” He is still at the hospital,” he said and I started running towards the forest. The distance from the main pack house to the pack hospital could be up to a fifteen-minute drive, but I didn’t know how to drive, nor did I have the patience to sit in the car for fifteen minutes.
Eve took over the moment I pulled off my clothes; she picked them up with her mouth and started running through the forest. The sun was taking a turn. Hence, the forest was already being affected as partial darkness loomed around the place.
‘ What are you going to do? Apologize?’ Eve asked. ‘ just get us there.’
We were almost at the hospital when Eve suddenly stopped; her demeanor changed in an instant, and as if his scent called out to me, my eyes turned fury when I saw Carolina, the pack doctor, talking to Roman beside Zack’s car.
She was shamelessly flirting with him. Her breast was popping out of her dress, and her skirt was showing almost half of her butt.
What the hell was she trying to do?
She looked more like a whore instead of a doctor!
I saw Zack drive back into Roman’s car and handed him his key. He pulled out something from his pocket and handed it to Zack before walking to his car where Carolina followed suit.
A low growl, possessive growl slipped out Eve’s mouth as we watched her walk closer to the car, about to pull the front door open; a loud warning growl left Eve’s mouth.
That was my spot stupid Carolina!
Roman met my gaze and immediately narrowed his eyes as if trying to guess what I was up to.
Another growl left Eve’s mouth, and I could see the panic in Carolina’s eyes as I walked slowly out of the woods on my four toes.
My predatory gaze sat on Carolina as if warning her not to make a move.
