Chapter 102
Escape
***
Leila’s eyes moistened with unshed tears.
She couldn’t believe it but she had to see with her own eyes. She had to confirm. Even though her entire being was screaming about the reality.
The man he was talking to…
The man who was spying her all this time…
The man whom she trusted…
Leila swallowed the lump in her throat as she gathered all her strength and resolved just to sneak into the door. And she almost lost her balance when she confirmed who it was.
Duncan.
Her childhood best friend.
He was looking at the masked man with pure hatred in his eyes.
Leila just couldn’t believe it.
Her body shook with shock.
She shook her head unable to gather her thoughts because of the huge betrayal she felt.
He was wearing a black overall hood and was holding a red and white mask on his right hand.
It seemed like whatever they were talking about it made Duncan so mad that he removed his mask.
Leila leaned against the wall just beside the door so she could still hear their conversation inside the hall.
“Why? She is mine now. You have no say about it.” The masked man replied his voice was spitting danger.
For a moment, she felt like Duncan’s life might be in danger and she felt so worried of him.
However, when she thought that he betrayed her her worry vanished into thin air.
But how? And why?
What was he doing here?
Why was he doing this?
He is her childhood friend.
She trusted him so much.
This time, she couldn’t stop her tears from falling from her eyes.
How many times more could she feel betrayal in this lifetime?
Duncan is a nice man. He was always calm and dependable. In this life, she couldn’t believe that he could do this to her.
And for what?
She gritted her teeth and heard some footsteps coming at the hallway. She instantly wiped her tears away as she tried to hide somewhere but she had nowhere to go.
Leila decided to act as if she was pissed, and she just came from the leader’s hall.
Even though it was just too hard to do.
“M-Miss…” One of the three sentinel wolves called her.
They were with a certain familiar man who seemed not to be a sentinel wolf because of the way he dressed. He was looking intently at her, like he was trying to decipher her thoughts.
“What are you doing here this late, Miss Leila?” The strange man inquired darkly.
She discreetly swallowed hard and gave him a deadly glare.
“What do you care? I just want to find the leader and talk to him, but I can’t find him. I am tired and I want to rest.” Leila tried to sound annoyed and exhausted at the same time.
She was silently praying that she could escape the place now. She was eager to get out of that damned place.
For sure, everything that the leader told her was all false.
He was with Duncan.
Duncan betrayed her.
And that only meant one thing the Triad leader was also lying to her.
Everyone in this place was all liars and she had to get out of her as soon as possible.
She was about to walk past him when the strange man spoke.
“That way is from the hall. Our master is always right there.” He stated as he looked at her suspiciously.
She faced him this time, she was more annoyed that she couldn’t simply go. She wanted to run and itching to cry the heaviness inside her heart but this man just wouldn’t let her.
“I don’t know, okay? I am tired since I tried finding that damn hall all around this place. I just want to get rest. The food I ate a while ago is already useless. I want to sleep.” She said as she rolled her eyes at them.
“Now, can I go? If your master asks you why I look like a ghost tomorrow I will make sure to tell him that you are the reason of it.” She added dangerously.
The three sentinel wolves swallowed hard as fear instantly filled their eyes.
While the strange man in front of her didn’t even falter.
She looked at him challenging him.
Then, he let out a deep sigh.
“Do you have anything to say more?” She inquired, irritated.
But the man just shook his head.
She rolled her eyes once again before walking past them.
However, the moment she turned her back her eyes began to blur once again.
‘Damn it! You have to be strong, Leila. Get a grip on yourself! You have to get out of her first!’ She mentally thought to herself.
She is such a fool!
And how could Duncan do this?!
If she was given a chance, she would have punched his face!
How dare he do this to her?!
“Just get away first. You have to hide and get out of this place…” Silver advised her seriously.
And she knew that it was the best thing to do.
To escape this damned place!
She didn’t go back to her room but to the secret way she found when she went out a while ago.
Leila’s mind was in chaos.
This time, it was not because of the truth behind her father’s death. She was sure that there was something fishy behind the Triad leader’s story. She knew that he was not telling her the truth.
She was just plain stupid for believing him!
And now, Duncan?!
She wanted to shout, but she couldn’t.
“Damn it!” She uttered painfully when she bumped into someone and fell on the floor.
Her heart was beating loudly inside her chest as she realized that… she bumped with someone!
She was cursing inside her head loudly as she saw a shadow on the carpeted floor.
“Going somewhere, Miss Leila?” A familiar voice inquired making her palms sweat.
And the moment she raised her head and met those gray eyes; she knew that she was busted.
“This is not the way to your room, Miss Leila.” The strange man who was with the three sentinel wolves a while ago said as he was looking at her darkly.
She pursed her lips together.
“I am lost.” She tried to say composing herself as she stood up.
The strange man smirked at her.
“Well, then, I can accompany you, Miss Leila. Let’s go?” The strange man said more of a command.
Leila clenched her jaw especially when she felt some presence behind her.
She couldn’t move drastically or else she would never get out of this place. She nodded her head.
“Good, then. Let’s go. I want to rest.” That was all that she could say.
She would make sure to get out of this place as soon as possible without a scratch. But right now was not the right time. She was just hoping that Hunter wouldn’t make any drastic move now.
