Kieran frowned, puzzled by her inexplicable behavior, but couldn’t find a reasonable explanation.
Callie didn’t cause any more trouble and went straight back to Paucaster Villa, lying down in the former master bedroom to sleep.
The furnishings remained unchanged, just as they were when she first moved in, but the sweet yet bitter atmosphere was long gone.
The days with Nelson seemed like they had passed a long time ago.
Callie drew all the curtains, checked for bugs, and then opened the computer Kieran had brought her. She put on headphones and took a folder out of her bag.
This was slipped into her bag by the man in the baseball cap when he bumped into her at the hospital.
It was Joaquin.
Back when she was trapped in that car by Jaquan, the first person Callie contacted through the navigation software was Joaquin.
She hadn’t anticipated the bomb at the time; her only request for help was: “Charlotte’s files should still be in the Sky Pavilion. Now that Jaquan isn’t there, find a way to get them out!”
When Jaquan got into trouble, the club fell into chaos, and Joaquin quickly found the files.
He used the hospital visit as an opportunity to stage a coincidental meeting.
Callie quickly opened the file. Inside were indeed Charlotte’s records, documenting everything and everyone she had encountered since childhood.
She skimmed through it, her finger pausing on a name.
Charlotte, also known as Holly, had no friends after entering college and lived alone. Callie suspected this was a situation Jaquan deliberately created to make it difficult for anyone to trace her past.
However, she had a close friend in high school named Karlee.
Callie pressed her finger down hard.
At that moment, a sound suddenly came through her quiet headphones-
“She didn’t do anything special today. After visiting Mollie, she went to see a doctor named Tobias, but he wasn’t there. Then we went home.”
It was Kieran’s voice. Reporting back so soon.
Nelson’s voice came through with a magnetic quality, “Tobias?”
“Yes.”
“Did she seem to be up to something?”
Kieran seemed to shake his head, then remembered something. “She said she was going to see one of your old rivals…”
The volume of his voice trailed off.
Nelson’s gaze sharpened, making Kieran flinch slightly. “Exact words.”
Just then, an assistant knocked on the door. “Mr. Oconnor, Miss Ellison is here.”
Nelson nodded in acknowledgment. Kieran left, and after a slight noise, Callie heard the sound of high heels approaching.
“Nelson, I thought you must be exhausted these past few days, so I asked my mother to teach me how to make chicken soup. I brought some for you,” Charlotte said as she opened a thermal container, smiling warmly and speaking gently without any hostility.
“That’s something for the servants to handle. Your hands aren’t meant for this,” Nelson’s voice was mild and indifferent, seemingly gentle yet unconcerned.
Callie tightened her grip on the paper in her hand.
“It’s no trouble.” Charlotte ladled out some chicken soup. “I simmered it for three hours. Try it.”
A faintly amused smile appeared in Nelson’s eyes as he took a sip. “It’s good. Thank you.”
Encouraged by his praise, Charlotte asked eagerly, “Really? Then I’ll cook more often. As Mrs. Oconnor, I should be well-rounded.”
Hearing this title, Nelson’s expression froze for a moment before returning to normal.
Callie didn’t see any of this.
