Chapter 116

Jayson’s POV.
I returned back inside the hall as I walked up to my room. But then, I bumped into Grace again.
I forced out a smile as I looked at her. “Really? Don’t tell me you stood here waiting for when I would return?” I chuckled softly as I looked at her.
“You were already taking so long to come back. Why wouldn’t I get worried? You promised to cut the cake with us but I guess you never planned on cutting it with us.” She said as she rolled her eyes.
I quickly apologized for missing the important part of the whole founder’s banquet.
“It’s nothing. At least, you never ditched us this time around after missing an important family event.” She said with a smile on her face.
“And how about Logan? I haven’t seen him yet.” She questioned as she scanned around.
“I… I saw him driving off. Tried talking to him but you know, we aren’t on good terms. I don’t know how long it would take us to finally live peacefully together without him picking at me.” I responded with a smile.
“You don’t expect him to easily flow with you. You were always strict with him after you returned since your brief disappearance after Emilia lost her child and with the few months you stayed before disappearing again, you both weren’t always good together.” She muttered as she looked at me.
I exhaled sharply. Having nothing else to say, I excused myself as I walked to my room and the moment I walked inside my room, I met with Emilia who was already inside my room.
But this time around, she had those teary eyes as she looked at me. Before I could utter a single word, she used her werewolf heightened speed as she rushed me, shutting me up with a kiss as tears rolled down her eyes.
She remained there for a while before pulling off as she looked at me. “I… I never stopped loving you, Jayson.” She stuttered as tears rolled down her eyes.
“But then, you disappeared. I searched for you, Grace searched for you all over New Kingston and even your family. They searched every single place they thought you would be.”
“Five years they spent it searching for you, Jayson Holmes but then, you weren’t there. They mourned you and all of us moved on. Were you expecting me to keep holding onto memories?” She whimpered as she looked at me.
I couldn’t say a single word as I never wanted to ruin the moment we are currently having.
I managed to lock the door, giving us the privacy we needed right this moment.
“I couldn’t even get to say to Liam that I was his biological mother. For all these years, I have been coming around to see Grace and also watch our son Liam. If you were there, maybe he would have still been alive and not dead, Jayson!!” She cursed angrily this time around as she couldn’t hold back her tears.
“How could you, Jayson. He was our son and you were never bothered letting Grace and Alphonso claim the child? You were never bothered about how he would turn out to be? Are you that bad when it comes to being a parent?” She scowled disappointedly as she hit his chest hard, multiple times.
I couldn’t help but let the memories of over twenty two years haunt me now. One thing we never kept track of was our age and the only way out was falsifying my age.
I had clocked forty years ago. The same month that I had lost my son, Liam Holmes.
Grace’s child never made it out alive and being there, I had no better option than to switch her dead child with my own son, Liam.
And Emilia had to play the role of a mourning mother and that was the last time I was seen in New Kingston not until four years later when I returned back, but then, it was short-lived after seeing that Emilia had gotten married to Ian Eriksson.
“How could I have known that letting my son get trained under Alphonso Bohen would only leave him scarred till death?”
If I had known, I would have claimed the responsibility of being his father and would have left New Kingston with him secretly, maybe he could have been here with me now.
“Every single day, every single time I step my legs in here, you want to know all I think about?” She asked as she looked at me.
I remained quiet as I kept listening to her.
“All I think about is when I saw him last and you know when next I saw him? When he was in the hospital. I paid him a secret visit and hearing him call me mother brought nothing but happiness to me. And you know what next? He apologized after his blurred vision cleared. I longed for that moment when he would call me mother but then, I never had that chance and I can’t lose Owen too.” She muttered as she looked at me.
“I… I am sorry, Emilia.” I apologized as I looked at her.
“I wish your apologies could fix the damage your absence caused, Jayson.” She sobbed.
“I am here to make his killer pay and until I achieve that, I promise not to leave New Kingston. I will leave the moment I achieve that. And, I am happy you got to build a home.” I shrugged as tears gathered in my eyes and before I could say another word, my tears rolled down my cheeks.
“It is a relief knowing that you never stopped loving me.” I said with a smile as I looked at her.
Her eyes were fixed to my lips and right that moment, I felt like having a feel of her for the last time.
I had come to accept the fact that I couldn’t change anything. There was no way she would leave Ian Eriksson and their son, Owen because of me.
