As soon as we climbed down from Christian’s private jet, there were cars waiting for us. It was cold, I pulled my fur coat tighter around me and Christian moved first to open the door for me.
He entered as soon as I was comfortably seated.
“Drive” he told the driver who obeyed immediately.
I was asleep for most of the time we flew here and the time I was awake, I watched everybody else sleep.
“Put on your seatbelt” Christian instructed me.
I reached for the belt and pulled it into it’s place.
“How long would it take before we get there?” I asked him.
“No long, a few minutes”
I turned to look at the other car that Kylee and Wayne were riding .
“Christian, are you still angry at Kylee?”
He turned to look at me and he thought about it, before he could conclude I spoke first because the look on his face told me he was really angry.
“Forgive her, send Wayne back home”
“She caused most of it, because of her you almost left me”
“It’s all in the past, we should move on”
“Okay ” he said and learned in to press a kiss on my forehead.
I smiled at him and turned to the window to watch the road.
As the driver drove through the gates of the house, I was relieved that it was a house I already knew, it was a house I loved… I didn’t like the instability of him constantly moving around in houses that we large and complicatedly built.
“I like the house ” I told him as I walked inside.
“You do?” He asked from behind me.
“Yes, it has good memories” I explained. It was the first house he had brought me to.
We were settling in when one of the house staff arrived with an envelope.
“From Mr Mason”
I stilled, remembering that giant of a man with mean eyes.
The first time I saw him at that party, I was so fucking appalled.
Christian didn’t look happy at all, he tore the envelope and brought out the card.
It was an invitation, I went to stand with Christian and we read the invitation together. We were both invited to an evening party tomorrow, tonight.
“I am not going” Christian said in conclusion after reading it.
“Why?” I asked, not because I wanted to go but because I wanted to know how big of threat Mr Mason is.
“Mason is cunning and not to be trusted, he could be calling me there for enjoyment or to ambush me… Any one of the two is possible and unpredictable”
He wanted Christian to bring me too but Christian had totally erased me from the picture.
“The invitation is for two” I reminded him.
“Never, I would never let that man come close to you, ever”
Christian tossed the invitation card on the couch and a second card slipped out.
It was black, he went to pick it up and read through it. His expression darkened and rage emitted from him like heat.
He started to squeeze the note.
“Can I read it?”
“No” he said coldly and matter of factly.
He left me and started walking out of the room.
I followed him.
“What did the note say?”
“Nothing that concerns you, are you hungry? I’ll tell the cook to make something”
“I’m not hungry, tell me what the note says”
“No”
“Christian..”
He contemplated it for a while and he handed it over to me.
I read through the crumples.
“I have known you for a very long time, Mr Christian and I know you will not want to bring your fiancee and the unborn child anywhere near me. Yes, I know about the baby, the same way you have your inside sources is the same way I have mine.
But, I invite you not because I want to take revenge for what your hunch man did to my cousin but because I want to settle a bit debt with you, man to man.
You’re fully a man now, you have earned more of my respect because you’re settling down and building a family but you do not want to turn this offer down because now that you’re back home, you’ll have to keep looking over your shoulder from time to time because o feel compelled to come after you myself.
Come, bring your fiancee and we will end this once and for all. Let’s enjoy ourselves and talk for once like the friends we are”
It was hard to find a threat, if you’re reading It without looking between the lines… I swallowed hard and turned to Christian, he was pale.
“He knows, how?” I asked Christian.
“Certainly, someone working in Budapest, probably marcellino’s father, I don’t know who but I’m going to end this one and for all”
He turned back again and started to leave the room, I followed him to one of those two rooms that had been off limits even to me.
He pushed open one of the door and I almost peed my pants, guns lined the walls from too to bottom. It was as if I had entered into another dimension, a death zone.
“Holy fuck, holy fuck”
Christian didn’t turn to look at me, he went to a small switch and once he flipped it, the wall moved aside to show a hidden room. I followed him inside, more guns but these one were in suit cases.
“Is that why this place was off limits to me, because it’s dangerous to be in here?”
He turned to look at me, an amused smile was on his hips.
“No baby, I was afraid you were going to leave me once you found out I was… Dangerous”
“Yeah, I wonder what I’m still doing here” I joked but his smile wiped off his face.
“It’s just a joke” I told him but he didn’t smile or say anything, I felt that I had completely ruined his mood.
“Christian, I was just joking. I didn’t leave you when I found out you could kill someone and you had… I’m still here”
He turned to the guns and started unpacking them.
“I’ll be waiting in the playroom” I told him and I left.
