Chapter 97
Discern
***
Leila was panting so hard as she finally got into the woods.
She had finally escaped the guards when she saw them talking in the hallway and laughing hard. She knew their routine already and she managed to escape.
The very moment she arrived, even though she already agreed to the marriage she planned some blind spots where she could use whenever she wanted to get out unnoticed.
She tried asking for permission in meeting Tammy but the eerie masked master wouldn’t just let her go.
So, she had to get a move and get out of the place by herself instead.
She had to know the answer that she had been looking for.
And she knew that it was only Tammy who could help her.
Leila didn’t know where she might be but she had to go out of that place while she still can. She was confused and she had to ask Tammy if not, she might lose her sanity.
She looked at the almost full moon.
It was the only thing that could give light to the darkness. However, Leila couldn’t find fear in the dark. She thought that the Triad’s base was enough to give her creepiness and chills.
In fact, the darkness of the night gave her a bit of comfort with her confused state.
She didn’t know why she had that dream.
However, there was something that she knew of there was more to her father’s death and that is what she wanted to discover.
“You have to be careful… I could sense something around the area. We should go to the South and find Tamika as soon as possible…” Silver’s voice resonated in her mind.
She knew that she was right.
Leila has only a few more times left. She didn’t know whether someone might discover that she had escaped. And if that happened, she knew that it might be safe for her to come back.
‘And how about the revenge that you are hoping for?’ A part of her mind inquired about her.
The truth had laid out already.
And she knew that it was possible.
No.
She believed that it was possible.
So why?
What the heck is she doing now?
Leila stopped as she stared at the familiar, small house.
Tammy was standing in front of her own house as if she knew that she was coming that night.
“Leila…” She whispered under her breath.
She couldn’t hear her but she knew that she called her name by the way her lips move.
Leila swallowed hard as she walked towards her.
Before coming there, she knew that she had to talk to her. But now, she was doubting whether coming here is a good idea. She was hoping that her guts were right. She was hoping that Silver is right for supporting her in coming there.
“It seems like you are expecting me to come back.” Those were the exact words she fired, the very moment she stopped in front of Tamika.
Tammy simply looked at her.
Like usual, there were no emotions etched in her face.
It was plain and void.
“Are you okay? Where did you go?” Tammy inquired seriously.
Leila let out a deep sigh and shook her head.
“And you can’t even tell, huh?” She sardonically retorted back.
Leila didn’t know but she was annoyed and she didn’t even know why and to who. Perhaps, it was all that was happening to her. She was annoyed to anyone not particular. She was annoyed that her life could be this messy.
“I told you not to be driven by your emotions.” Tammy said slowly.
But she simply shrugged her shoulders at her.
“And then, what? And why do I have to follow that? Why can’t you just tell me everything. I want the truth, Tammy. I want to know what really happened to my father.” She insisted as she was close to tears… and breaking down.
Tamika let out a deep sigh.
This time, there was something reflecting her eyes but she couldn’t decipher what it was.
“You know that I can’t tell you what I see. I can only give you warnings, Leila. I can’t ruin the equilibrium. I shouldn’t tell what I see.” Tammy stated as if she was trying to extend her patience for her.
But Leila was just too emotional now.
She couldn’t comprehend and that she wanted was the truth. She didn’t care about her reasons. In fact, she finds it so unfair.
“And why?! You know the truth. You can see it. You can sense danger! But you… You don’t even tell me! You are such a freak! Your self declared power is useless!” Leila couldn’t stop herself being so emotional already as she jerked those words.
Tammy pursed her purple tinted lips tightly.
It was as if she was trying so hard to contain her own emotions even though her face remained passive.
“Say everything you want, Leila… But do you think I like to have this kind of power? Do you know how hard it is to know everything but can’t say anything? Do you know how painful it is to see those things happening right in front of me but I couldn’t do anything to stop it?” Tammy retorted back.
Leila didn’t know but it shut her up all of a sudden.
Tammy was not shouting at her at all.
But her words weighed, and it was like shooting daggers at her.
It hit her hard.
She knew from the very beginning about Tammy’s gift which the latter called more of a curse than a gift. And she understood why. However, like other people around her, she also judged her poorly.
‘Damn it! And I call myself her friend? What the hell, Leila!’ She commented inside her head.
This time, she felt guilty slowly creeping inside her.
She took a deep breath and slightly bowed her head. She couldn’t look straight into her eyes any longer. It was as if she finally sees through her mistakes and accepted that she was just too impulsive and messy to even care about the words that she said.
Damn it!
“I… I am sorry… That was so uncalled for.” She whispered under her breath but she was sure that it was enough for Tammy to hear.
She was so embarrassed. She was so desperate to know the answers with her questions but she refused to consider Tammy’s feelings.
Even though Tammy always or had never let her see her real emotions. And it might not reflect in her face, but she knew that she could feel she could get hurt.
Leila swallowed hard as she slowly looked at Tammy’s face. She was just looking at her seriously. Then, she let out a deep sigh.
“Perhaps, you have to discern the truth, Leila. I know that you are a smart lady. Don’t let anyone get you blinded with their own truths just to get away. And this time, I want you to open your heart with the possible truth that you are looking for.”
Right after Tammy said those words, she could feel a presence around them all of a sudden.
And there she saw…
Hunter coming out from Tamika’s house looking intently at her.
Her heart began to pound faster as if it was in a race.
