Callie froze. She had recognized the voice inside; it was Bridger.
Kieran whispered to her, “Mr. Kaiser left immediately after receiving your call and rescued Mollie before Jaquan’s men could detain her.”
So that’s what happened.
Mollie took a deep breath and joked, “Who knows, maybe I got bored and yearned for a more thrilling life.”
This statement undoubtedly provoked Bridger. He glanced at her, “Say that again.”
“I said maybe I got bored…” Mollie hadn’t finished her sentence when Bridger pointed the handle of the apple knife at her neck, “Think carefully before you answer me.”
Mollie looked at him. This man was always carefree and unrestrained, but when he got serious, his presence was overwhelming.
With tears in her eyes, she faced the knife, “Thank you for saving me. At least I didn’t reveal the secrets of Club Paradise under Jaquan’s interrogation.”
“Bridger, we’ve been broken up for two months. What’s the point of asking me this?” She smiled.
“Yes, two months.” Bridger withdrew the knife and played with it in his hand, “I’ve long forgotten.”
“I heard there’s a new woman by your side, very beautiful.”
“I’ve never lacked women around me.”
“Yes, even when we were together, there were always others, but you never crossed the line. I’m grateful for that.”
This sounded more like a farewell.
Bridger stopped listening, took a bite of the apple, and stood up, “We’re even.”
He opened the door and left, bumping into Callie.
Callie looked embarrassed and stepped aside, “I… I didn’t mean to.”
Bridger’s face was dark; he didn’t pursue it and left directly. His back still looked carefree and unrestrained, but upon closer inspection, there was a hint of loneliness.
After he left, Callie quickly entered the ward, shocked, “What happened? You broke up!”
Mollie had an injury on her forehead, covered with gauze. She played with her fingers, “I cheated.”
Callie was stunned and then laughed, “That’s quite funny, but I don’t believe it.”
Mollie laughed too, “Really, sorry I didn’t tell you right away.”
Callie didn’t understand why but knew some things shouldn’t be questioned.
“But… that day when I called him, I thought he wouldn’t help, but he still came to save you. It shows he still cares. Maybe you should try again?”
“I’ve been with him since I was eighteen, five years now.” Mollie counted, “I knew from the beginning we had no future. Approaching him with a purpose, he would eventually find out.”
Callie was silent. After a while, she told Mollie what had happened in the past few days and expressed her gratitude.
“Callie,” Mollie understood and suddenly asked, “Your path isn’t completely blocked. You should try harder than me. At least let Nelson know the truth. If he knows, maybe…”
“Maybe what? He won’t get married?” Callie understood even more clearly, “He’s already signed a deal with the Ellison family. Ahmad won’t let him off easily. I know he has no choice.”
“Are you just going to watch?”
Callie’s eyes became distant; she didn’t answer.
After spending some time with Mollie, Callie headed to the restroom. Kieran followed her closely. She couldn’t stand it anymore, “Are you going to follow me into the ladies’ room too?”
“Callie, you have too many ways to escape. We can’t let our guard down.”
