“Sean please. Have it. You need it more besides I wouldn’t have send it if we needed it, I worked double shifts over the weeks. It’s no big deal. You’ve done so much for us helped me with the boys, baby sat when I looked for work and in return you never asked anything.”
“I’m your brother Sage it’s my duty to look after you.”
“Mine too. I love you Sean.”
“Me too. Look after yourself and kiss the boys for me.”
“I will. Send my regards to Gina, and I’m still waiting to be an aunt.”
“Let me find another job that pays well.”Although Sean has finished college finding a good job that pays well was harder than expected.”We’ll talk soon.” She went about her daily chores after the call, Logan went to bed first later that night Liam on the other hand was in a playing mood it’s seven and he’s still awake. Sage doesn’t know what time Bruno will come but hopefully Liam will be asleep by the time he arrives. Eventually when Liam went to bed she rushed to take a quick shower, when eight struck she was done at the same time she heard the door it must be Bruno she thought going to answer it and he looked so dashing in a pair of jeans that hugged his strong muscular thighs with a blue shirt, his hair was still wet but neatly combed as always his cologne made her hormones go crazy. She moved aside for him to come in, casually he strolled into her kitchen and set the take away bags on the counter, he was very comfortable in her space suddenly the room became small no matter how spacious the kitchen was his broadness made it shrunk, seem small. He took out a bottle of wine Sage was shocked he knew where her glasses are.
“Can I pour you a glass?”He asked.
She nodded.”Why did you come.”She asked taking the glass he held out to her she took a sip of the red wine it was nice, a man that has taste.
“You stood me up. Remember.”Sage knows he’s talking about their date the one she agreed to go out with him.”You owe me dinner.”
“Then I should’ve cooked for you not you bringing dinner.”She sat down on the bar stool.
“You can cook.”He sounded surprised.
“Of course I can. What do you think I survive on takeaways every night.”
“Something like that.”He answered.”You don’t strike me as the cooking type.”
“I began cooking when I was twelve my mother taught me at an early age besides I love food it’s natural I know how to cook. Not only that I have two boys that has big appetites if their mouths are not moving there’ll be trouble.”
He chuckled softly.”Where did they get that from? You.”
“I doubt.”Sage said.”Probably their father.”
“I want to get to know you Sage. As a person. I want to know everything there is to know about you.”
“Haven’t you done a background check.”She asked.
“No. I want you to tell me about your life.”She was surprised she’s under the impression he already knows everything about her, that he’s run a complete background check on her entire life, having him admit he hasn’t done it yet surprises her.”Will you tell me who Sage Palmer really is.”
“There’s not much to know Bruno, I didn’t have an exciting life growing up.”
“Still I want to know.”He insisted.”Come let’s go and eat before the food gets cold.”He took the bottle of wine and food, Sage went to take out plates and cutlery before joining him in her small dining room, soon they were eating.”I see you have an admirer. Wanna tell me who he is.”
“I don’t have an admirer Bruno, Adam helped me carry the grocery bags inside the other day, I had Liam and Logan with me. He offered his help and I accepted because I needed it at the time.”
“Yet you refuse my help.”He said.”Wanna tell me why.”
“Can we not do this now.”
“Do all men who offer their help bring you flowers. I heard your conversation by the way.”
“It’s rude to eavesdrop and we both know I don’t have to tell you anything. We not dating or in a relationship.”She saw something flash in those grey eyes. “Speaking of flowers I forgot to put them in water.”She was about to go when he said.
“I threw them away.”
“You did what.”She asked.”Why did you do that.”
“I didn’t like them.”He retorted.”Finish up your food.”
“You didn-..”Sage took a deep calming breath.”They weren’t your flowers to like to begin with. What on earth made you decide to throw away flowers that was given to me.”
He almost told her he doesn’t want or like that another man is giving her flowers, only he’s allowed to bring her flowers or tell her how beautiful she is and look at her with lustful eyes. Dios! What’s happening to him. Why is he behaving so possessive towards Sage, so territorial, she’s right they aren’t dating or in a relationship for him to behave this way. Then why is he? He can’t stand the fact that other men look at her, that they wanted her it drives him nuts to a point where he wants to kill each one of them.”They didn’t match with the decor.”
“You really are a piece of work. Do you know that.”Sage didn’t even realise that the flowers weren’t where she left them in the kitchen.”You just love interfering in my private life. Don’t you. Would you appreciate it if I put my nose where it doesn’t belong.”
“Let’s enjoy dinner. Shall we.”
“Yeah, let’s forget your ill mannered behavior. Shall we.”
“Don’t be mad. I’ll buy you flowers if it meant that much to you.”
“I don’t want anymore flowers from you or anyone else. Especially you. I don’t want anything from you Bruno.”
“Fine I won’t buy or give you anything.”Not that he was gonna do that.”Can we please enjoy dinner now.”
Sage skeptically looked at him for some strange reason she doesn’t believe him.”Tell me about yourself.”She said halfway through dinner.
He tensed at her question and easily directed it back to her.”You haven’t told me all there is to know about you.”
“I got adopted when I was five years old by Ben and Kristin Palmer, I have a brother Sean he’s adopted too. We live and grew up in Florida, Ben and Kristin were the best parents anyone could’ve asked for, they always made sure we had everything we need. I was happy with them, having them as parents was the best thing ever.”She smiled.”They were old but good as parents taught us alot too.”
“They no longer alive.”Sage nodded.
“They passed away in a car accident a few years back since then it’s only been me and Sean. Fending for ourselves. Our parents had nothing the house and car were the only assets they had, Sean and I inherit in, he’s staying at the house.”
“Do you know anything about your biological parents.”Bruno asked.
“Sean’s parents were killed during a burglary he didn’t have any existing family so he was placed in an orphanage until he got adopted.”
“I was talking about you.”He said.
“I don’t remember my mom, I hardly know anything about her or my dad.”
She wasn’t looking at him anymore.”Then why aren’t you looking me in the eye anymore.”
“I’m not doing that.”She denied.”I don’t remember.”
“Has anyone ever told you lying isn’t for you.”He took a sip of his wine.
“Yes Gina did.”She said thinking out loud.”And how do you know I’m lying.”
“Your eyes, your body language. I can feel the tension coming off your body from here when I asked the question. You don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to Sage.”
“Can I get you anything else.”She asked instead, standing to take away their plates.
