“And I bet you aren’t Mr controlling.”She slightly stepped back.”You seem like a nice guy Bruno and I’m thankful for what you did but I won’t be able to pay you back nor am I sleeping with you. My dignity and honor is something that cannot be bought, nor will it ever.”
“And I will never try to buy you but I won’t stop in helping you either. That’s what friends do they help each other.”
She laughed softly.”Again with the friends story huh.”
“If we cannot be lovers. We can at least be friends.”He suggested.
“Let’s see how that will work out.”
“Don’t be mad at me.”He said.
“I’m not. Because of the flowers you forgiven.”
“I take it they your favorite.”She nodded.”What else is your favorite.”
You she told him silently.”Truffles, I like tea preferable jasmine. I enjoy yoga I’m a sucker for romance movies. I like a burger with chips and milkshake even though it’s bad for the curves I eat it anyway.”He chuckled at that.”I like to read too occasionally and my favorite color is red.”
“I’ll never forget.”He said.
“What about you. What is your favorite?”
“Let’s leave that for another night, I’d like to ask you something as a friend of course.”She remained quiet so he continued.”My brother and his wife
invited me over for dinner and I don’t feel like going alone. Would you mind in accompany me but if you can’t I’ll understand.”
Sage was on the verge of saying no, she had hoped to have an early night because tomorrow she’s going back to work but the way he had asked her so nicely she didn’t want to let him down, especially after everything he’s done for her. Why not help him as a friend. How bad can dinner with his family be. “Since you asked so nicely. Of course I’ll come with you. What time should we be there.”
“Eight.”He answered.
“Good that gives me enough time to finish my bath and get ready. Do you mind being on your own until I get ready.”
“Take as much time as you need.”He said going to take a seat.
Sage was as quick as she can be, while getting ready she had called and asked Jesse to come over, while dressing she’d asked Bruno to let her in when she arrives it’s a good thing she had pumped enough milk for them but she does it every night, they don’t even drink as much like they did before but that was more Liam, Logan on the other hand his thirst has increased over the last couple of days, and he also gets too tired than normal. She guess it must be part of growing up. Taking her purse she headed out, she hopes her clothing will suffice it wasn’t made out of the best boutique but it still was beautiful for her anyway. She found them sitting in the living room.”Thanks for coming Jesse I know it’s your night off.”
“No problem Sage those cute little dark haired bundles are no trouble at all. Should we expect you back tonight.”Her eyes landed on Bruno.
“Yes, I already prepared everything for them it’s in the fridge and please when Logan wakes up he’ll need an extra shot. Call me if anything happens, Logan hasn’t been himself lately.”
“I will. Enjoy your night.”Bruno led her out, and soon they were on their way. She noticed he was driving tonight.
“Is everything okay with the boys, I heard you telling Jesse one of them isn’t feeling well.”
“Yes, Logan’s behavior isn’t like before but it must be due to the teething Liam on the other hand is his normal self.”
“Liam and Logan.”He repeated.”That’s their names.”
“Yes.”She replied.
“Beautiful names. I’d like to meet them.”Sage almost yelled out a fast no but stopped herself just in time.
“Of course.”She mumbled, not that it would happen he’ll instantly demand a DNA test if he can see them.
“I saw empty insulins on top of the kitchen counter when I went to get me a glass of water. I didn’t know you’re a diabetic.”He quickly glanced at her before looking away again, no point in lying.
“It’s… it’s not mine. It’s for the boys. They are diabetic.”Sage gazed out the window.
“I’m sorry for asking.”He sounded sincere.
“It’s okay Bruno.”
“It must be hard to look after them especially since they cannot eat sweet stuff you must check everything first before you give it to them.”
“Sometimes it is. But I studied alot about it, that made it easier for me not to give them anything that has sugar in it by mistake. Having their own prescribed diet helps me too.”
“You’re a strong woman Sage. Not to have given up on your kids most parents would reject their babies if they are born with a certain disease or illness but you didn’t.”
“It’s not their fault for being the way they are. They didn’t ask to get diabetes it’s genetic. We all different in some way that doesn’t mean you should be treated less than you deserve or condemned because of what you have. I love my boys and I wouldn’t change anything of theirs I accept them just the way they are it’s what makes them so special and unique from the rest.”
“You are an amazing mother, I wish there are more mothers like you in this world.”Sage met his gaze. Why did he say that. Has he been rejected because of it, she cannot even ask then he’ll know that she knows he’s a diabetic and that will only lead to questions she cannot answer. No one said anything further for the rest of the drive she soon saw they were at the same house as last from the dinner party. Bruno told her it’s his brother’s house but his aunt and uncle are staying with Hugo and Maya because his uncle had had heart surgery and was now recovering at their house. A woman greeted them at the door, she gave Bruno a warm hug and kiss.”Evening aunt.”
“Bruno. I didn’t know you were coming for dinner.”Her eyes fell on Sage.”And I also didn’t know you bringing a guest.”Sage can hear by her accent she was English.”I’m Carmen.”She extended a hand towards Sage and she shook it. “Bruno’s aunt. Pleasure to meet you.”
“Sage. Nice to meet you too.”
“Come on in.”Carmen said.”Everyone is sitting in the family room drinking pre-dinner drinks.”
“I hope…”
“Don’t worry.”His aunt assured him.”Lana won’t be present.”
Sage was formally introduced to his brother and sister in law, they are all so friendly and didn’t make her feel out of place. Sage learned his uncle won’t be joining them for dinner.”Are you and Bruno dating.”His aunt asked Sage. Her eyes landed on Bruno shouldn’t they be asking him such questions, he seemed to be in deep discussion with his brother, now she’ll have to deal with his family’s interrogation.
“It’s just Bruno doesn’t bring female companions here.”It was Maya who said that.”We all surprised.”
So am I Sage almost said.”No, we not dating. We just friends.”
“Friends?”Maya asked shocked.
Sage nodded.”As hard as it is to believe. It’s true. You can ask him yourself.”
Both women stared at her as if she lost her marbles, she can understand where they coming from. With a sexy hunk like Bruno what woman would want to be his friend.”Mmm.”His aunt said.”I see.”
“How long have you know each other.”Maya asked.
“Not long.”Sage answered, she hated lying but in this case she has to and Bruno wasn’t even here to back her up.”A few months.”
“Where are you from Sage? Do you have any family.”Carmen asked.
“I lived in Florida before, work brought me here. I only have a brother but he’s living at home.”
