Harley’s POV
I was surprised by the sudden news and departure of Clyde and Berta. But because of how happy they looked, I was okay with it.
“Now that they are gone, that leaves only two of us women in the pack house,” Sophie said with a smile.
“I have never seen you this happy, manager… oh, I mean Sophie. Sorry, it’s out of habit calling you that,” I said seriously.
“It’s fine, Luna,” she answered as I frowned.
“You know, I might have been your superior at work in human territory. But here, you are my leader,” she said and then took a few steps forward.
“Forgive me for asking you this, but are you alright?” she asked as I smiled and nodded.
“You look a bit absent-minded,” she said and then grabbed my hands.
“We started off on the wrong track, but now we are friends, right? So if there is anything that is bothering you, you can confide in me,” she said seriously.
I kept quiet for a few minutes, then decided to open up to her.
How does it feel to have parents?” I asked, and that seemed to catch her off guard.
“Oh, well… my folks I mean, my parents disowned me. You see, my father and mother were, and still are, hard to impress. It happened a long time ago, and it wasn’t a pleasant experience. It was painful and sad because I looked up to them and cared for them dearly,” she said seriously.
“I usually lie to almost everyone, telling them I’m an orphan taken in and raised by Glen’s family, because the memories I have of my parents are heartbreaking. But Alpha Glen and Luna Berta know my real story very well,” she admitted, making me feel bad for asking.
“I didn’t have money or much knowledge about the business world, but Alpha Glen gave me that chance. He is like a brother to me, someone I respect with my life. He gave me a life I could only dream of, and that’s why I am so loyal to him,” she said with a smile.
“But from what I’ve observed, a family can either be a blessing and a paradise or a curse and a hell. So having parents can be the best thing for some, while for others, it’s the worst,” she answered.
“I see,” I whispered softly.
“Ever since Berta came here and worked things out with Clyde, they’ve grown so close to my mates, and I admired and loved that. But a part of me felt so lonely and envious,” I said, my voice breaking.
“Where are my parents? Why did they give me up? Do they still remember me? Are they still alive? If they are, why haven’t they come looking for me? If I was an unwanted burden, then why was I even born?” I asked as tears filled my eyes.
“For years, I wished they would find me and explain everything. I was ready to forgive them and be lied to as long as I got to feel how it truly felt to be loved by them,” I cried.
Sophie looked at me with a pained, sad expression on her face and then hugged me.
“So this is what has been eating at you all this time,” she said sadly.
“I told myself that I was okay with them being out of my life, that I would make it out just fine despite not knowing them. But now I don’t know because I want to know them,” I sobbed.
“And you will,” Glen’s voice answered from behind.
I quickly pulled back, turned, and looked at him as he approached me with Sky.
I frowned and then glared at Sophie.
“I’m sorry, but I can’t pretend not to know what’s bothering you when Alpha Glen asks. He is my Alpha and your mate; if there is something he can do about it, then it would be best to let him know,” she said as I sighed softly and wiped away my tears.
When they stood in front of me, I braced myself for them to ask me why I had kept such feelings to myself. But I was surprised when Sky pulled me into his embrace.
“I knew you weren’t okay, yet I didn’t comfort you as you needed me to because my mind was occupied with Riff. I’m so sorry,” he whispered as tears rolled down my cheeks.
“I am also sorry for not comforting you or just taking your hand,” Glen said, then moved his hand to my back, rubbing it gently.
“I have a lot of connections. My company has many supernatural beings that owe me favors, so finding your parents will be a piece of cake. I swear to the moon goddess we will find them, whether they are dead or alive,” he said seriously.
I pulled back and smiled at both of them.
“Thank you very much. I was a little immature to keep such feelings to myself. You are my mates, whom I dearly love. Knowing the truth would have been something I should have done the very first day I felt lonely and sad,” I said honestly.
“Next time I won’t hold back or hesitate to tell you how I feel, no matter how unpleasant my emotions are, I promise,” I said seriously.
“That’s all we want to hear,” Sky said, then wiped away my tears.
“Sophie,” Glen called softly.
“Yes, Alpha,” she answered in a respectful tone.
“Thank you very much for looking out for us and our mate. If you hadn’t mind-linked me about this, we wouldn’t have known in time, and that would have made her feel even lonelier and sadder than she already is,” he said as I looked at her seriously.
He was right. Although I didn’t like what she had done, she had truly helped me. Because of her, Glen was now going to search for my parents.
“Sophie, thank you very much. You really are a good friend,” I said sincerely.
“Anytime, Luna,” she answered.
“How about this? We call Molly and ask her to put us on a conference call so we can have a nice chat with everyone on the other side?” Glen suggested.
I quickly shook my head. I missed talking to Molly, and I wanted to speak with the others as well, so his idea was more than welcome.
