“Maybe… he hid his online status?”
After all, Ulric’s account permissions were far more extensive than those of other employees.
A feature of hiding one’s online status was certainly possible.
“I checked, he was hiding his online status. He simply isn’t online.”
“Maybe the meeting he’s attending doesn’t require logging into the system.” There were such meetings, like listening to subordinate reports, quarterly summaries, project receptions, or legal department contract negotiations.
But…
Ulric hadn’t even returned her call…
“You should call him again! I think Dad might be cheating,” Jake said.
Rosalind sighed and lightly tapped Jake on the head. “Don’t say such things! Your dad would never cheat. Where did you even learn that word? You’re not allowed to say it again, understand?”
Jake stuck out his tongue and pulled his sister upstairs.
They continued playing carefree, leaving Rosalind in a state of confusion.
Jake wasn’t wrong. Ulric was indeed acting strangely.
After a few minutes of wrestling with her thoughts, Rosalind picked up her phone.
It wasn’t that she was afraid Ulric was being unfaithful. She was more worried that something might have happened to him and he was hiding it from her!
This time, the phone rang for quite a while without anyone picking up.
Panic set in for Rosalind as she dialed again, only to be met with silence once more.
She decided to reach out to Cedric instead, dialing his number. He picked up after a few rings.
“Ms. Ruell.”
“Cedric, are you at the office?”
“Uh, yeah, I’m here. What’s up?”
“I called Ulric, but he didn’t answer. Is he still busy?” Rosalind had already stood up from the couch, grabbing her car keys to head to the office.
Cedric had no idea she was coming to the office and was stammering through his lies. “Uh, yeah, Mr. Walters is still busy. He has a lot on his plate today. He probably just didn’t check his phone!”
“Did you tell him about my call this morning?”
“Not yet. I’ve been busy and just forgot! I’m sorry, Ms. Ruell.”
“It’s fine. You can go back to work.”
Rosalind hung up the phone and headed out.
Cedric’s tone had been off, and so was Ulric’s behavior. She needed to find out what was really going on!
Since she was going to W Group, Rosalind kept her wits about her and drove Ulric’s Maybach.
The garage didn’t have any security stopping her to ask for identification, so she made her way through smoothly.
Upon entering the lobby of W Group, she didn’t head directly to the president’s office but headed towards the conference room where Ulric often had meetings.
To her surprise, the room was completely empty. There wasn’t even a lower-level meeting happening, meaning Cedric shouldn’t have been busy at all!
Rosalind’s thoughts were a jumbled mess; she couldn’t make sense of it and didn’t want to guess.
She then went straight to the president’s office.
As expected, the lights were off, and there was no one there!
Standing at the door of the president’s office, she called Cedric again.
“Ms. Ruell, is there something you need?”
“Where are you?”
“Um… I’m in the president’s office, with Mr. Walters.”
“Come out. I’m right outside.”
There was nearly a minute of silence on the other end before Cedric finally spoke, astonished, “You… you’re at the office?!”
“Tell me the truth-where is Ulric? What’s going on with him?”
“Um, Mr. Walters won’t let me say.” Cedric seemed to be at a loss, his tone filled with helplessness. “Ms. Ruell, maybe you should just call Mr. Walters and ask him directly!”
